Adorable as the bottle!
I found a pair of these cute little bottles forgotten at my local drugstore. I find Blue Waltz to be more of a "blue fuzzy blanket" smell actually. It smells like Johnson's baby shampoo! The old original. Not a heavy powdery scent, it's lighter than I expected. Baby shampoo. That mildly powdery, lightly soapy, gently nostalgic scent. i find it great for sick days, or any day I want to feel happy or cozy. The lids on these are in bad shape. If anyone knows a convenient way to fabricate a new lid or something, I'd love to hear suggestions, as one bottle is evaporating due to a cracked lid. The second lid I cracked lightly also. These bottles are old! I can't believe the scent is still so fresh!

Fb worthy for classy gourmand lovers
I first was able to test a vial of Back to Black, and despite the little dabs I was able to get, it went straight to the top of my want list. A year or so later, and I'm happy with my purchase! On a quick side note, I love the fact that you can buy a sturdy purse spray, and then use any Kilian refills you want in it. Very convenient for me, as i love to carry fragrance with me. Now for the scent. I'm getting to be picky about sweet scents, having owned far too many of them before finding better things were out there. This, will stay in rotation as my sexy night out fragrance! Cured pipe tobacco, wild honey (I mean real, spicy, wild honey!), juicy, tart berries, and then the fragrance goes into dark territory.. Here lie the woods, resins, & incense, the dark heart of a fragrance that could have gone sticky & syrupy. This is not for wallflowers! Back to Black is without doubt a sensual fragrance, people tend to want to follow it, and you will be noticed wearing it! Is no groundbreaker, true. But for those who will buy what they love, love for me is sweet, sensual, Back to Black!

Strange, beautiful liquid is worthy of the artpiece bottles.
This fragrance is as adventurous as the beautiful flacons that display it! Upon application the lavander and bergamot are very up front, a lovely, clean, natural lavendar, followed up by a fresh, bracing herbal wash that gives almost a sensation of coolness. i believe vetiver is present at this stage to provide dryness. The praline note is very quiet. It stays in the background and sings with the immortelle to provide a slight underlying sweetness, with a touch of floral and light spice, that keep the composition from becoming too dry and herbal, which to me would place it in the category of mediocrity, despite the art pieces it comes in. After about 20 minuites have passed, the only change is just a touch more sweetness, as the herbal players and dry vetiver are still going strong. Such a well crafted balance, this truly is a masterful fragrance! Being at first skeptical, i wanted to know if the fragrance is as special as the vessel, and indeed it is. It just gets better. There is a little of the vanillic soft and lightness of Creeds, Sublime Vanille here, i believe this is due to a good cocoa powder note, but i would expect no less for this price range. This is not for everyone, but a wonderful olfactory experience nonetheless. Sadly, i am smitten, and will use my sample to the last drop, and perhaps purchase a decant while i admire the beautiful flacon from afar!

rich and opulent oriental/floral
I'm going to go ahead an stand on sherapop's platform here on Galanos. the liquid in my sample is indeed dark, thick, and already different from mass market garbage in that aspect. once applied, its true nature becomes apparent, which is a rich, resinous, dark, and mysterious brew. not for the faint of heart, Galanos is meant for the woman who enjoys painting scarves of fragrance in the air as she flows by. it is hard for me to distinguish different notes here, but the mood is very dark and dramatic. almost to the point of a BPAL or other oil named such as "black opium" that I own. I am getting a vintage style soapy note now in the long, long drydown, or maybe a slight grassyness and breath of air finally cuts through the thick, incence Laden narcotic haze. this is a perfume from another era, a bottle would last a lifetime, and I will cherish my sample for dramatic moments. but this sample may be enough to last me as long as I need. if you want a big oriental, but don't want to go down the Opium, or Obsession road, Galanos could be the one for you. I think this could trancend gender as well.

just too much.
i really wanted to like this! it is certainly a well constructed, and very respectable perfume, in terms of both formula and quality. but, as i was afraid, the iris and heliatrope ran right out of the gate with loads of sweet incense, which on me is the instant, and terrible powder bomb! the resinous woods underneath are rich, and fine, the vanilla seductive and slightly boozy, the leather note smooth, and not overdone, and the nutty undertone gives it a buttery, almost "oily" cast. there was a light herbal note that dissapeared, and i can detect some flowers drowned in the sweet, srupy juice, but i cannot distinguish, or rescue them. sadly, i cannot get it off my hand. sungular. one drop. so, if you love it, please apply carefully (this test was an old formula) it is a powerhouse!
