The smell of Spice
I always experience a romantic longing for the Orient, the desert, the landscape and the cities, oriental spices and arts and crafts.
This fascination and longing I seem to have in common with many sensitive people from the Western cultural circle - including many artists - who banish their passion in pictures, stories and art or even fragrances and then further romanticize me.
That I therefore № 02 - L'Air du Désert Marocain and Au Coeur du Désert attracted like a moth the light is almost self-evident or? I like both very much - Au Coeur du Désert is thereby for me still something deeper, fuller, like the completion of an already before grandiose masterpiece.

How does Au Coeur du Désert smell? That's not even so easy to describe, because the perfume is wonderfully interwoven. For me, it smells wonderfully warm, dry, balsamic soothing, slightly sweet, of oriental spices without that I could make out one, promising and with a wonderful depth.
I could draw you a picture: imagine you were traveling all day on the edge of the Sahara, the last piece into the desert you have undertaken in the evening on the backs of camels. Finally you are there, in a small tent city between the dunes. Around you there is a hustle and bustle, preparations are being made for a fire, others are preparing a delicious spice-laden dinner, while still others are rolling out their prayer rugs and burning balsamic resins in a small vessel. Only you have just nothing to do and so you decide to go away from the hustle and bustle and into the dunes.
The sun burns meanwhile no longer so mercilessly as still hours before and dips now the dunes around you into a wonderful amber sea while the sky supplies a beautiful blue contrast and runs out toward horizon into something lavender-colored. You take off your shoes - the sand is still quite warm and feels wonderfully warm and smooth as you let it trickle between your hands. You breathe deeply the still warm desert air and enjoy the peace and the depth of the landscape.

*Cut* of course smells so not real the air in the desert - believe me I've been there - Au Coeur du Désert is rather just one of those transfigured longing art objects that move people like me so deeply. The longing has remained with me whether I come in this life again in the Orient I do not know, because I no longer fly. Anyway, being there was for me a mixture of fascination and reality shock. Many - especially people from Japan it should go so, if they come full of romantic fantasies to Paris and then are confronted with reality (for this there is even a name - it is called the Paris Syndrome).
Maybe that's why I prefer to snuggle up on my sofa between my Berber pillows and read, say, "Voices of Marrakech" by Elias Canetti, "Baptism of Solitude" by Paul Bowles, "High Time of Solitude" by Albert Campus or, say, "The Little Prince" by Antone de Saint-Exupéry, wearing Au Coeur du Désert and dreaming of the desert and the Orient.

Another comparison I would like to make for Au Coeur du Désert is the Spice from the desert world Arrakis from Dune. I devoured the book with 16 and straight is it with a terrific film adaptation in the cinemas. The Spice here is a just too mystical spice that only occurs on this desert world and is the most sought after commodity in the entire universe. It is only available in the Deep Desert, smells sweet and slightly cinnamon. It has life-prolonging and consciousness-expanding effects. The book Dune is an exceptional SiFi novel in that it is deeply philosophical and inspired by the religion and culture of the Orient.
There is something so mystical and profound about Au Coeur du Désert for me as well. When I imagine how Spice smells, it smells like Au Coeur du Désert.

The ageing of a legend
Like for so many, Aventus was my introduction to niche fragrances. Back in 2016, I was still a student and had the opportunity to get a 50ml bottling of Aventus for a fair price via a sharing on Parfumo. I was absolutely thrilled! For me, Aventus was the perfect fragrance: masculine, confident, and strong, but also cuddly and the strong shoulder to lean on - while refreshing (different). A brilliant composition of fruity, woody, smoky, soft and sweet notes.
After I was done with my studies I had to call a bottle of Aventus my own. This one wasn't bad either - a little smokier and fruitier, but not quite as balanced as my bottling. In fact, I've also never received such and such compliments on a perfume as I did on that first bottling. Things like "Wow what are you wearing? It makes me all fuzzy" is something I've never heard before. My girlfriend at the time unfortunately criticized it every time I wanted to wear something other than Aventus
This bottling I would have given a 10/10 without hesitation. My bottle still manages a solid 8 from the scent and there we are, unfortunately, already at the downside. The batches of Aventus are unfortunately extremely different and I find it honestly said something a cheek at the price! Initially I thought these were the many natural ingredients and a sign of quality. The ratio of natural to synthetic ingredients is - if you believe professional perfumers but not exceptional. Besides, other brands manage to deliver a roughly consistent quality even with many natural ingredients. I always wondered if it was because of the generational change at Creed?

Last but not least, then, the arc to the title. In the meantime, Aventus has grown old. Some manage to age in would, others shine brightly and rather briefly for it. With Aventus is rather the second the case. Without question, we are dealing with a legend that has left a lasting mark on the perfume world. This can be seen in the way Aventus is still talked about today, the large following and the chasing of certain batches that are traded at astronomical prices - and especially in the countless dupes that now exist. We almost have to do with a whole new fragrance direction that Aventus has coined. Unfortunately, however, Aventus has perished on its own success. The brand Creed which became THE niche brand not least by Aventus - is meanwhile bought up by an investment group which is probably rather interested in short-term profits. Thus, here on Parfumo, the Creed fragrances are meanwhile complained about the poor durability. The fragrance DNA is now as already mentioned nothing special.

The question remains is it worth it today to buy an Aventus? To spare my bottle (my legendary filling is now used up) and for this review, I have tested a current batch again at a sharing. I must say that I like it quite well in terms of fragrance and was also almost a little closer to the old original again - however, it smells to me almost more like a copy of Hacivat than a real Aventus - only with a frighteningly poor durability.

In short: Aventus is and remains a legendary and absolutely brilliant fragrance. Due to strong fluctuations in the batch quality and the now miserable durability, I would nowadays but rather to an offspring from the fragrance family founded by Aventus advise - for example, to just that Hacivat.

Memories of my old Aventus
Reminds me of my old Aventus, comes for me a touch softer and less smoky therefore. My first Aventus had a totally beautiful base in which the amber came out very nice. It made the scent very powerful and masculine for me but also very calming and sensual. I loved it so much that I bought a 100ml bottle. The was then unfortunately a little kraziger and had less of the beautiful Ambra.

Hacivat is for me a little less expressive and powerful than the Aventus of yesteryear, but also has something of the softness and the feeling to be held - if I but here no Ambra richen can and this happens only but the woods, some patchouli and the oak moss.
