Plastic Almonds
Among the German reviews some noted that they thought this was a very quiet scent, to which I couldn't agree less. I don't have any of it at home, but sprayed myself with it a few times and while I don't find it outright unbearable it remains a very artificially smelling almond scent that kills anything below. Only the metallic lemon has a chance in the head and early base, and that's not exactly a favorite of mine.

The benzaldehydic almond musk didn't convince my co-tester either, quite in contrast to Serge Luten's Louve with a similar almondy theme that I had bought in the 'bay a bit before

Shelf Warmer
On the German site, Ergoproxy surmised that the 68 might be a slow seller. At least at one of my local Mueller drugstores this proved very true: I watched a leftover bottle being reduced over and over for half a year until it was half price and the box was so derelict I could take out the bottle and test it. That was the time when I wrote the German review, hinting that if anyone wanted it I'd be willing to purchase and mail it for them since it was one of the Guerlain scents I didn't care much for.

Although I like many creations from that house, including traditional ones like "Jicky", "Shalimar", "Mitsouko" and more modern ones like "Vetiver" as well as exclusives like "Vega" and "Angèlique Noire" this EdC seemed somehat nondescript to me, the only novel thing being the showy naming of 68 ingredients - but I couldn't discern more than half a dozen anyway, just a few spices (thyme, maybe some basil), a bit of sandalwood and a very soft musk ...

I ended up buying it and sending it to Germany for Jella after decanting a gulp that ended up with my sister's boyfriend. I guess I'll stay with Guerlain's more accentuated products.

The Vanilla Affair
Thanks to dear Jella I was granted a bit of time with this diva, but she frequently brushed me off. Maybe the occasions were inappropriate, or I misbehaved, or it could have been the cold wind blowing in her ears that kept her from developing behind mine ...

The introduction reminded me a lot of Chanel's No 5, but soon the aldehydes and flowers gave way to a steadily increasing vanilla note - akin to a return from Chanel into Guerlain territory. Three hours later I perceived delicious cookie dough, though the buttery notes went as quickly as they had come.

The wind didn't blow us till Cyprus on our first date, for me the purportedly woody Chypré stayed hidden under a flower basket. But as noted above the vanilla kept gaining strength and I dozed off in a soft, warm pudding bowl with spices and incense.

On our second day we had more or less gotten accustomed to each other - after two hours of aldehydes she handed me a marvelous rose, then we went back to cake (Viennese Vanillekipferl for those in the know), spices, more vanilla, and the delicately woody Guerlinade basis.

The third time I took her to a party, but Vega was so contained in the large room with the open windows that not even my significant other noticed her much. After the aldehydes she became ever more quiet, only to completely vanish into the cigarette smoke that arose after the last children had left for bed without a goodbye.

I will keep a favorable memory of her and smell the last drop every now and then.

Red, but no Lobster
I haven't been in possession of this scent for over 10 years, so my recollection might be a bit vague, it is entirely possible I wouldn't even like it any more, not to speak of possible reformulations.auch fraglich.

Not for the least part thanks to a trip to France including the obligatory visit to the Musée International de la Parfumerie In high school I felt an urge to please myself and my surroundings olfactorily. I soon left the most brutal and not quite aptly named "Extase Musk" by Muelhens behind, giving my preference to Schwarzkopf's "Scorpio Rouge". For years to come this would be my signature scent, a light woody oriental with a fresh head that would permanently cling to my scarves and coats (I hardly let a scent close to my skin then, and not only scents ...). To me it was the epitome of a comfort scent then.

During another visit to France in 1994 (see my homepage for images ;-)) I purchased another bottle of this scent, but in the years to come my perfume consumption went down. I didn't replace the flask when it was empty, and the Puig/Herrera miniature collection I purchased duty free on another trip got lost instead of used up, only to resurface recently - in contrast to the bright red Scorpio bottle.

Only recently did I remember this scent once again. While no German language site seems to have it (then it was readily available in drugstores in Austria), I still found multiple offers in France ... should I get another bottle via mail order? Or is it better to let old passions rest?
