Amouage's new path
I too can't figure it out completely.

It's very sweet the first ten minutes. Not candy floss , not chocolate, not caramel. Some sweet I can't put my finger on at the moment.

The middle part is my favorite.
Some floral accord tainted with heavy labdanum.

I haven't gotten my head around it completely yet.

What I like for certain is how it's not typically Amouage.
It doesn't have their signature accord:
Incense, oud & resins.

I think Fate Woman is what Christopher Chong was referring to when he said they're heading in a new direction.

It's blended seamlessly.
I don't complain about seamless blends. I enjoy not picking out notes sometimes.

The

of perfumery.

Alpha of the series
Alright. I gave this a couple of wearings.

Before I review it I have a few remarks,

If this is the Arabian Nights finale, then well done. Bravo.
Kilian has managed to seal an excellent series with a perfume that captures every shining aspect of each perfume from the line.

Which brings me to my next point.

The name is a misnomer. But this time it's a good thing.
Meaning there is musk but it's not a musk dominant perfume.
Rose Oud is rose and oud dominant, Pure Oud is oud dominant, Amber Oud is amber am oud dominant
Musk Oud is the alpha of the series. It's comprised of the star accord from each perfume.
It's got the incense from Incense Oud, the soft boozy rose from Rose Oud, the stellar quality oud in Pure Oud and the cardamom from Extreme Oud.

Add an oily delicious musk and you have Musk Oud.

If you were to only have one from the Arabian Series, this would be it.

You should get this, then get the other flavors that appeal to you (amber / Amber Oud, Rose / Rose Oud, leather / Black Oud etc etc).

This not only represents the complexity and quality that stands behind the Arabian Series (I'd have liked to say the Kilian line, but the generic waste that's seen spewing lately forbids it) but it is the most representative of all.

This is akin to 34 Saint Germain Boulevard, the flagship creation. Muscle flexing if you will.

Like a chameloen constantly changing pigmentation of smell.

One minute it's an aromatic coriander , crisp cypress, the next it's cardamom ansd cypress.

Then it's rose oud, then a boozy incense.

Allllll of the above sitting on musk. The musk isn't pronounced at all. Neither is the rose. Nothing blatantly stands out.

The epitome of complexity. An ever changing complexity.

Notes and accords ricocheting back and fourth but in utter harmoy. A complex chameleon of a scent.

If this is the Arabian Nights finale, then this is the expected climatic ending bringing together the best of all of the series.

SotD La Fumee Ottoman - Miller Harris

If you're familiar with La Fumee, you'll relate to this review.

In a nut shell, this is La Fumee with the incense toned down and a very very sober rose added.

This would appeal to doting La Fumee fans or those who were overwhelmed with the incense accord in the original.

Scent
It's a perfume, but it's not.
The notes are in there, but they're not.

It's a perfume but it's not.

It's abstract art perfume.

But not all abstract art is good. Hence my rating.

Don't Join the Club -
Or Stay Away from the Club in this case.

Opens with a soft orange blossom gripped by a very firm aldehyhde and a bit of bergamot.

Shortly jasmine and tuberose make their presence.
The tuberose is not a a voluptuous one like in Fracas or Beyond Love. It is very reminiscent of the tuberose in A Travers le Miroir by Thierry Mugler.

The mid notes are comprised of a floral accord, warm spices, benzoin and a mediocre amber.
At this stage there is no particular floral note standing out.
What has changed is the addition of a nondescript spice accord. Warm and glowing as opposed to perky like cardamom or pulsating clove. Very nondescript warm spices.

The mid feels very congested. Nothing stands out, nothing is shining yet there is a lot of things going on.

Its like rush hour at the train station. A lot going on but its all irrelevant.

http://www.railfanwindow.com/gallery2/d/133098-2/DSC_3540.jpg

It collapses towards the end.
The floral accord has been eradicated by a rabid aldehyde/generic dry down accord.
Smells harsh and very synthetic.

I wish I had access to a shower at work. So I can rid myself of it and spray something proper on.
