Happiest Three

Happiest Three 8 years ago
Two of my three gold purse sprays having been begged off me by adored female relatives, I searched for replacements and found them in green and blue at Nordstrom's. They arrive today.

Now to decide which three perfumes I like the most. It was so hard I rephrased the question: which make me happiest when I'm wearing them? That decision turned out to be easy: Ramon Monegal's Kiss My Name, Dior's Oud Ispahan and Malle's Une Rose. Minor revelation.

Is liking and admiring a perfume different from feeling happy while wearing it for you, too? If so, what are your happiest three?

Ohh good question. I am gonna think on this and get back to you.

Wouldn't the happiest three be those that are worn most often according to the PARFUMO recording method?
***************
As I walked away from the computer, my brain started to re-think the topic. Notice that Briarthorn "had to get back to this subject" and that Pipette put a question mark after her input.

The PARFUMO records will show under the caption "Most often worn" the first three. But it is not an accurate record. Taste changes.

Perfumes worn are not like a tatoo semi-permanently engraved on the skin. Therefore, a definite statement cannot be made.

Perhaps this elaboration can be more diligently discussed in form of a blog, although this Forum also offers a spot to reminisce about the matter.

Pipette in my case I find I don't wear Une Rose very much. It's a potent scent not appropriate for everyday wear, IMO. Same with Oud Ispahan. But when I DO put them on I feel fantastic. Also, I don't always record what I'm wearing -- busy, distracted, etc. By the way, where is the personal "most worn" list hiding out these days?

No, dear Cincy, that is not the list I was referring to.

When you put into the field "What are you wearing" your so-called scent of the day, underneath that is a mention "Full overview" - so the user clicks on that and finds: "What should I wear" - "Often worn" - "Rarely worn" - "Recently worn".
So, it may spring to reason that the three top perfumes under "Often worn" are the ones most often worn and I presume that those are the ones that make the wearer most comfortable (= happy). Of course, one has to do the input when one changes the perfumes; otherwise that personal list cannot be up-to-date.

What now, if at times one perfume was often worn and made it into the top three, but was now given away or discarded as - like I said before - the personal taste has changed? Under this theory, the top three are not accurate.

You can also look into your closet where the perfumes are stored, the ones in front are most often used and make the wearer the happiest. Like a piece of clothing that fits so well that one forgets one has it on.

Thanks, Pipette for the directions! Never would have found it on my own. Like someone already mentioned, my "often worn" isn't accurate because I don't always record what I'm wearing. Again in my case, those most worn and the ones that make me happiest aren't going to be the same because my true favs aren't in the everyday wear category, IMO. For instance, I've worn my two D.S. & Durgas a lot lately because they're good for around the house and I really like them, but they don't make me as happy as the three I mentioned--which actually cause me to feel exhilarated when I spray them on. This is all very subjective, of course. I was really surprised to find the ones that make me happiest and the ones I think I wear the most aren't the same. Perhaps it's simply because I work at home. If I went out each day, I'd reach for special fragrances more often? Since I use my purse sprays only when I'm out, I want the special ones there? Guess there's no hard and fast logic to it.

"Guess there is no hard and fast logic to it." ScentFan - I love that statement. That is so true.

Perfumes are no hard science, except in the process of making them. Then the perfumer follows the formula. Andy Tauer in his blog often described how he changed the formula, as he went on and forward in the creating process.

Then - after that - commercial considerations come in to tweak the formula.

Then - after that - pinpointed advertising assaults the prospectiver buyers' subjective mind.

Finally - we poor uninitiated ones - are trying to make sense of it all. But now I digress ...

Thank you Pipette.

And thanks, Cincy, for that other link by which I learned L'Instant Magic is the most worn by parfumo.com women. Amazing. Never heard of it. Time to step up my self-education by collecting samples for a Guerlain sniff fest! What a thrill that's going to be.

Great thought topic! Currently my olfactory happy places are:
1. Derek Lam 10 Crosby- "Silent Saint"- wispy cottony musk
2. Tom Ford- "Portofino Neroli"
3. Jo Malone- "Lime, Basil and Mandarin"

These are not necessarily my favorite fragrances all the time, but I wear these for that boost and to ward off the blues. This Spring I am looking for a new suggestion in the citrus, Mango or jasmine family to keep a smile plastered on my face. And so the quest continues!

Okay, This week I've been feeling my Pure Havane, Violet Eyes, and believe it or not, Wind Song. I was surprised at how happy wind song made me feel. It's such a cheapie but smells more expensive.

Briarthorn! You're wearing perfume again. Did you have your baby??? Tell, tell.

No. I haven't had the baby. Sad We are due in three weeks Monday, April 25. I've been wearing perfume since the middle of the second trimester. I just haven't been able to review any because I'm afraid my perception of scent is off due to hormones. I'm looking forward to being able to review again soon. I figure after the baby is three months old my perception and hormones have leveled off so I can do an honest review. I have quite the back log. It's interesting how scents smell differently on my during my pregnancy. For example I cannot wear my Versace Yellow Diamond. It's gets this weird sour note. I hope I stop getting that after I have the baby.

I haven't been as active on the boards or on anything really. Between work, trying to close on the house on April 15 and being so hugely pregnant with two other kids to mind, I'm pretty worn out and mentally useless. Thankfully, the new port I started at in February is a really good fit for me. I am really happy here. It's like heaven compared to the last port I worked at. Now I just hope this house thing goes through so that we can start moving.

Thank you for asking about me Smile

Flavorite, have you tried Lalique's Amethyst and Guerlain's Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat?

Relax and enjoy, relax and enjoy. Sounds like you are already. Glad you like where you are. Port? Are you folks in the navy?

I used to be navy, but now I work for Customs and Border Protection as an Agriculture Specialist. We call our duty locations "Ports of Entry", as in Entry in to the United States. I used to work out of Miami International Airport, but now I am at the Port of Miami (Miami seaport).

Happiest perfume for me is Givenchy's "Amarige" no doubt!
I think it's maybe the mimosa in it that gives me a happy feeling, or the perfume is just so perfect flowery in itself.
It smells like pure happiness to me.

Some of Juicy Couture's perfumes smells like english fudge to me, so I wear that one very often.

Third place I can't decide. I like Lancome's "Miracle" because it's fresh and uplifting. And Escada's fruity scents are nice on a sunny day.
