The attachment to past memories
Which brings me to the topic of perfume. I so wanted to like the Paul Kiler line. Certainly, they are artfully crafted. They have a somewhat blunt edge to the aroma. That is fine for the fresh scents, like "Ere". Paul Kiler seems to like a leather note and uses it. ... perfume" to me. So, I brought out from my samples a decant of "Or et Noir" by Caron. Here, too, we have a perfume full of roses...

Layering - it might be easier than you think.
I say, its nothing like that! Fragrances are collections of ephemeral diffusive aromachemicals whose purpose is to titilate our olfactories. I say experiment all you like, it doesn't have to hold a roof up and keep your family dry. It's a light and unimportant thing, it is play. These volatile aromas will interact in mostly predictable, but sometimes surprising and delightful ways....

What Is Your Favourite Era in Perfume?
application of Headspace technology in commercial perfumery; novel ingredients; increasing concern for environmental safety; the deconstruction/disintegration of the natural/artificial binary; the rise of Indie and Niche bringing diversity; upstarts and start-ups aroma-bombing the market monopoly of the designer brands. feeling a little shaky perhaps about their leading monetised "luxury...

We are all made of chemicals!
bio-accumulative" and so on. Some of the so-called "natural" fragrance companies would have you believe that "synthetics" are all derived from sludge scraped from the very bottom of the catalytic cracking towers of the evil petrochemical industry. In fact many synthetic aroma materials are synthesised or refined from plant sources (terpenes, alcohol esters). In the production of high quality synthesised...

Vintage Lovers - Listen Up!
come the day where vintage scents are all gone. Nothing to be chased down on E-Bay, nothing found in estate sales, nothing, period. The vintage flacons you have will eventually be used, worse, they may turn. So, the perfume industry does not sleep. Replacements are created. The aroma is approximately the same, with current ingredients in permitted quantities. Well and good. I am so tempted to blind...

In Praise Of ...
Okay, which one to order? I narrowed it down to "Fig Tree". A natural rendition? We shall see (I mean sniff). Internet conversations have it that the scent is so much like "real fig tree aroma" that the Greek blogger lady Elena Vosnaki was very impressed as she "certainly knows fig". The 5 ml travel spray was a good deal. This firm deals with rather small sizes which I think is good. My order was quickly placed...

The end of perfumery as we know it?
were found to be unsafe should be banned from cosmetic products, Additional allergens should be subject to the obligation of individual labelling on the package of a cosmetic product. Dissecting Perfumes
eventually becomes your scent, perhaps your signature scent. Once an individual discovers that information, perfumes suddenly become more interesting, more negotiable and less confusing. That's what writing reviews is about. Helping people understand what makes a perfume rise and fall with its aromas, what images it evokes, what its classification is, best time of year to wear it and when to wear it, these...

Chapeau's Perfumescope Part I: Water Signs
Nil. Pisces are prone to choosing perfumes in smooth, rounded flacons that look and feel like weather worn stones on the sea shore. Acqua di Gioia comes to mind, both shape and lovely pale jade color. Dune, almost identical in shape might also appeal with its distinct sweet and salty aroma of sun tanned skin. When browsing reviews, Pisces will pay attention to "beach", "light",...

The New Arabians ...
to my nose at least. Rose/Oud combinations form some of my favorite Arabic fragrances and I find Prestige Original to be nowhere close to any of these. Oud also comes in very many qualities, all the way from the most expensive naturally tree infected varieties to some really rough stuff created aroma-chemically. I'm not convinced that the oud here is of the best quality, but perhaps there is something wrong...
