Cerebrating celebrity...
Picasso under the same label and if I forget someone I hope (s)he'll excuse me. One could ask what's the difference between Alain Delon and David Beckham having their own fragrance line, but if I have to explain it then I don't think (s)he'd understand. There were also a couple of perfumes semi-endorsed/semi-launched by celebrities, like Givenchy's L'Interdit and Coty's Sophia, which were...

out, one that I might like to be a part of. "Something Wild", cedar and Madagascan vanilla. This is a deeper impression. For those intimidated by vanilla, what you must understand is that natural vanilla is not candy-sweet, but subtle-sweet. Kilian Hennessy blames Bath & Body Works for the demise of perfume. Without hesitation, I must say that I agree. For years, they have portrayed wrong impressions of different...

Old geezers go to heaven...
The point is the strange ways in which some old fragrances work their magic when least expected.A Christmas Carol of sorts. Two years ago, around the same time as now, I got into a rather unusual swap. A very nice Parfumo lady, moved by my review of Russisch Leder by Johann Maria Farina gegenüber dem Jülichs-Platz (is this a name or what?), located one 100ml vintage bottle in a very unusual packaging.Although...

Mind the (generation) gap...
sort of delirious olfactory philosophy and re-evaluate what I nearly lost. Thus I thought that my usually misunderstood sang-froid about "tragedies" could manifest itself only by comparing a nearly irreplaceable loss to the modern sirens that lure the sailors of the perfume seas to their olfactory demise. It's not that I couldn't replace my humble collection had it been destroyed. It's just that I bought...

Scended scents and moving movies Part 2
to recuperate after a catastrophic war. A tango scene to reverberate through eternity. It must be the most dramatic comedy I've ever seen, using humour and wit excellently in order to deal with very serious and dark topics. Being a feminist in an era when uttering the word was usually followed by "Femi...what?" was no primrose path or bed of roses, even though the surroundings were laden...

oriental soap. It smells like spices and is very affordable. It looks much more expensive than its price. (photo via YvesRocher.com) Speaking of soap, if you can find black soap in a jar, I would recommend it. I had one years ago and it was so heavenly to scoop out a small semi-solid chunk and lather up into oblivion. Don’t let the black color fool you: there is nothing dirty here, only spicy and earthy scents....

Chapeau's Perfumescope Part I: Water Signs
non-gourmand, like Dzing!) will nurture their need for comfort and their love of old books. Browsing through the reviews, Cancers will search for the following keywords: comfort, cashmere, beige, milky, soft, skin, natural, light, leaves, dirt (soil). In a store, they are drawn to semi-opaque "milky" or iridescent flacons that look similar to the moon stone, or transparent, delicately...

Creed Layering - More Than Just a Marketing Gimmick
the weekend, at home, and I probably wouldn't be enjoying it all that much, since tuberose and I are barely on speaking terms. HOWEVER..... Mix this stuff with a variety of stuffy and staid masculines, and it's like putting a Hawaii shirt on the accountant, and giving him a hot pink .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol, and a huge tropical party drink. Guacamole! Jimmy...

my blog on the German Parfumo, I try to draw and outline (semi-professionally) first traits of an esthetic theory of olfactory art. Perfumery is a form of art. A very young one without big theory and science still. Some pioneers like Chandler Burr contribute to this task of the future and I´m sure in the coming years we will explore and define an...
