Two successful blind buys
There was a definite waft of cumin. I asked my son. Cumin. But that was the last I smelt of a powerful cumin note so I guess it must have seaped through the bottle lid and accumulated. The bottle is cute. The base and top (coloured gold) are metal with a soft semi-matte pale gold finish - like 9 ct English gold in colour rather than the rich Indian gold. The liquid...

Monthly Perfume Tray Rotations
really, creating a good subset of perfumes to focus on during one month is a brilliant way to get to know what I own.Since doing this I've been able to cull through what I own. I've sorted through what is a keeper and what is "meh" to my nose. Those perfumes I've grown blasé about are either sold on eBay, swapped, or gifted. So far, I've shed over 10% of my collection. Those unloved scents found...

I finally bought it...
a large spray perfume, a small mini splash, and a body lotion. In Marshall's, somehow the large spray went missing or got broken, so they marked down the rest of the set to clearance in January at $40. I thought that was nuts--forty bucks for a mini and a small body lotion?! Craziness. It never sold. About two weeks ago, they marked it down to $12. I looked at this set EVERY TIME I went in to check out new perfume...

My first blog post
my youth in the late 80's-early 90's. I've rekindled my love for Liz Claiborne in the plastic triangle. Man, that one brings back good memories! <smiles> Plus, it just smells SO GOOD on me! My husband loves it, so...huge bonus. I also still like Eternity for the memories, but it smells very "cold" on me, and I prefer warmer fragrances.Naomi Campbell's Exult reminds me of the years I lived in Germany and traveled...

Grossmith Samples Failed to Inspire - What Shall I try Next?
that hits the spot is proving difficult. I don't work in the industry, and I'm not a blogger, and I can't get out to the shops so either I buy untested or I fork out for samples with not much to show for it at the end.I flip flop between buying samples, essential oils, and perfume oils. As my old nan used to say, 'You don't know what you want and you won't be happy...

Everything’s just fiction - An Interview with Josh Meyer
from anything Imaginary Authors has done or will do. It’s a lot of fun for me personally to be able to make something different with a cohesive brand. I also just recently worked with Sam Rader from Dasein to create "Winter Nights | Dasein" which was limited to 400 bottles and sold out almost immediately. I am often asked to make custom fragrances or exclusive...

The New Cool Crowd - INTUITIVELY OBVIOUS TO THE CASUAL NOSE, 2
by Hiram Green -- starring (he won't tell us more) Citrus, Amber, Suede and VanillaWhite Peacock Lily by D.S. & Durga - starring Oleander, Lily cream and Fog I await with bated breath "Maai" by Bogue which has, reportedly, resurrected and mesmerizingly modernized the oriental-chypre accord of old (think Diva, Bal à Versailles). EDIT: Maai absolutely goes on the list...

"Knowing" when a review turns into a blog post
now I can hardly stand oakmoss. I find this most disheartening since oakmoss had been the headmaster at the school of my formative perfume education.Suffice it to say that when an oakmoss comes along and is friendly towards me I am delighted. It is a rare occurrence but one which I welcome. I hold dear the scents that have survived my change in body chemistry and the new scents that...

Aromatics Elixir 2016
Elixir a couple of years ago and it brought my wrist up in an angry red rash. I tested it again earlier this year (my local department store) and that one pulled Marmite on me. Casting misgivings aside, telling myself that I could use it as a lovely room spray, I purchased from Amazon (sold by and dispatched by Amazon) a 100 ml bottle of the aromatic delight that is A.E. at the heavily discounted price of £46.77.The...

Interview with Victor Wong - The creative mind behind Zoologist
help me create some perfumes and two indie perfumers responded – the rest is history. Did you ever think about becoming a perfumer yourself? If not, why didn't you?I had thought about it, but later rejected the idea for I knew one needs to spend a lot of time practicing perfumery to become good at it and time is something I don’t have the luxury of. (I still...

What goes around comes around
Anarchiste by CaronOld Fashioned Men's AftershaveOpens up as an old fashioned men's aftershave with loads of orange/lemon/begamot and cedar wood. I personally don't get mandarin and orange blossom as the top notes, the citrus is much more vague than that. A few minutes in sees the development of some minty, metallic, animal funky notes (it reminds me...
