My decant system
My decant system consists of:
a...decants from most of my full bottles for portable convenience.
b...decants of frags I know well and enjoy intermittently but do not want an entire bottle. includes decants taken from full bottles I have previously owned but given away to more loving homes.
c...decants of frags I'm "auditioning" for a place in my collection.
d...decants of flankers, different vintages and concentrations...

Keep Calm and Carry On Consuming
http://www.newsweek.com/2014/07/04/new-york-artist-debuts-her-armpit-perfume-harpers-bazaar-256321.html#
This is a very interesting article discussing the recent provocative (apparently!) promotion-without-a-product (apparently!) of the unpurchasable Eau de M by Martynka. Eau de M can only be sniffed on scent strips in a fashion magazine. The article also raises ideas around scent in art and gives...

Layering - it might be easier than you think.
Some say you mustn't, Calice Becker most memorably said "that's like throwing bricks in the air and hoping they'll come down as a house". With no respect intended, I say, its nothing like that! Fragrances are collections of ephemeral diffusive aromachemicals whose purpose is to titilate our olfactories. I say experiment all you like, it doesn't have to hold a roof up and keep your family dry....

On some of those *other*...

What Is Your Favourite Era in Perfume?
Most of all I like Now. Nearly half the fragrances that I own and wear were composed since 2000 and, regardless of when composed, the vast majority of the juice was put in a bottle within the last few years.
What I like about Now:
the variety and quality of raw materials available to perfumers;
widespread application of Headspace technology in commercial perfumery;
novel ingredients;
increasing...

We are all made of chemicals!
I have yet to see definitions of the words "natural" and "synthetic" that satisfy me with regard to production and consumption of aromatic materials. To go further, I think the construction of these two categories and of a distinction between them is more artificial than Calone.
Terms that I am more interested in that lead to questions and investigations of importance to me are: "derived from plant...

I'm allergic to your intolerance...!
I wear fragrance immoderately pretty much every day, and so far no one has reached for the epi-pen.
My understanding is that most people find most ingredients used in most perfumes manufactured today pretty benign. The ingredients are intensively tested and regulated. In most cases the same chemicals (and more) are present in innumerable functional products. I think the worst I've heard of reactions...
