Barcode addition feature and fragrance sets
by MRoth | Parfumo Research
...Apologies if this is addressed elsewhere. I have read through the instructions, however in English they're a little sparse. I'd prefer to be annoying asking for clarification rather than making a mess approving undesired barcodes.- If a fragrance bottle is part of a set which includes cosmetics, is this "yes, confirm"? Or is this when "no/set" is used, even if there's a bottle of fragrance included in the set?- If the barcode perfume is included in a set which includes other fragrances, is it a "yes" or "no/set"?Basically, are barcodes to be added for bottles alone in box only? Are travel sizes acceptable? Additionally: a button for the user to "pass" and go to the next barcode may be valuable, as users that are not confident may go on to process other barcodes. If that is the purpose of the "unsure" button, please add this clarification under the instructions.Perhaps seperation of the buttons for "no / set" for "unsure / not on Parfumo" would avoid confusion.

Unsolicited messages from new accounts
by MRoth | Parfumo Community
...Similar to what Cocopah mentioned, my unease comes from both the method and motivations of these scouts on a site where members express and share in good faith. Some go away with a "no", other times they'll wheedle or try to build a rapport before trying again. At this point I don't reply at all and I'm weighing up moving my main collection to a private folder. That's fine for now, but I'd prefer a solution that's proactive in protecting the community, as I doubt they'd hesitate to rip off or scam if given the opportunity.

Maison Alhambra perfume brand owned by Lattafa
by MRoth | Perfumes & Brands
...I imagine in this case yes, it's because it's a dupe brand. There are some dupe brands which are in the database, and as far as I can recall there's no clear rule against adding dupe brands in the Research guidelines. So it's bit of a grey area. There is a list of brands excluded from Parfumo's database, including Maison Alhambra, but the "why" is not listed.Sometimes there's a post about a brand with specific reasons or context. From what I've gathered it generally boils down to Parfumo admin having to be proactively cautious regarding possible legal action.

Unsolicited messages from new accounts
by MRoth | Parfumo Community
...I'm sure some other users have encountered the private message equivalent of "cold calls": new accounts with no collection, signed up just to scout anyone listed as owning unicorns.Maybe this is acceptable behaviour to some members? I find it icky, like an entitled stranger treating public transport as a dating opportunity. Perhaps there needs to be a minimum amount of engagement with the site before new users can initiate private messages.

Why Is This Site So Quiet?
by MRoth | Parfumo Community
...MeetjoeblackPart of the issue is that it doesn't show up readily in Google searches, at least here in the States, just yet. There might be some room for search engine optimization (SEO) here, I'm honestly not sure how it works, but a lot of good people are not on here sharing simply because they don't know about it and it doesn't show up readily when they search the web. This is a key point which also feeds back into less content on the English side of the site. Most people in to Australian perfume community don't know about Parfumo as an option. Then when they visit to scope it out it has much less activity than Frag and BN despite Parfumo's superior database, site features and quality of reviews. I would say those are the two main issues: getting Parfumo into search engine results and at the same time encouraging contributions to the English side of Parfumo so it really comes to life. Once that gets rolling the issue would fix itself.

Does incense draw attraction?
by MRoth | Perfumes & Brands
...Sahara Noir is a perfume I wear for myself. It's not really a compliment getter in my experience, but it is a powerful scent, a scent I would wear storming into battle.

Another Game: Music For Perfume!
by MRoth | Parfumo Community
...I think that's a great idea Pipette. So are people providing matches of perfume and music, or are we daisy-chaining, answering the person before us with a song, and then providing a perfume for the next person to provide a video for?

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
by MRoth | Parfumo Community
...PBullFriend:FYI: There are more FB perfume groups than you can easily shake a stick at. If people want me to, I can arrange to add you to some.I highly recommend the "Aussie Fragrance Network" FB group for any Australian users. I was also a part of some worldwide groups but all of those CONUS only sales made me a sad panda.

Re: Fragrantica and the Ridiculous Censorship
...NaughtyKitty:So, it just tells you where some people's priorities lie. Censoring the term "old lady" isn't going to help the women's civil rights, neither is ranting on the internet and trying to get things censored. These people don't know how to pick their battles.I cannot agree with this more. Fragrantica in a nutshell.

Recommendations: refined, citric or woody or aromatic scent
...Can't say I agree with Encre Noir - it's a fine enough scent, but not subtle or safe for meetings IMHO.Kenzo Power would be my #1 suggestion. It's smooth, refined wood and spices (don't let the floral note listed scare you off, it's quite masculine). Calm but high saturation - it has an aura but it doesn't beat people over the head. It's also left-field enough that I think it'd be pretty rare to bump into someone else wearing it.

Help someone fall in love with me
...A few thoughts:Whatever you choose, wear only that perfume during your stay. Make it the scent of you, don't confuse his memory with other fragrances. Then when you depart, leave behind a piece of clothing with your scent on it. In light of the above, don't choose a popular, mainstream fragrance.Try to avoid very opaque/overwhelming scents that he may have a negative reaction to. I find tuberose and jasmine are big offenders in this regard. If you can, figure out what kind of scents he likes on a woman. In my experience guys generally fall into two groups: those that like women to wear 'feminine' scents, and those that react to 'mysterious' scents they may not have smelled before. Either way I hope this goes well for you. You can't really make someone fall in love, but perfume is certainly an important aspect of romance. ;)

The Science of Scent
by MRoth | Perfumes & Brands
...http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn25865-skins-ability-to-smell-seems-to-help-it-heal-itself.html"They found that Sandalore – a synthetic sandalwood oil used in aromatherapy, perfumes and skin care products – bound to an olfactory receptor in skin called OR2AT4. Rather than sending a message to the brain, as nose receptors do, the receptor triggered cells to divide and migrate, important processes in repairing damaged skin."
