...I wonder how difficult it would be to get some of these samples in the US. I'd like to review this house since I've never heard of them before.

Weekly Scent Discussion #3: Classifying Orange Blossom
...Apicius I've been thinking on this and I think you are very correct in the distinctions you made between neroli and Orange Blossom. I believe what I have been classifying as Green Orange Blossom is actually Neroli. After sniffing around I think Neroli has a more Green and Bitter scent profile. Orange blossom is more White floral like Jasmine but can also be more warm and creamy without the sharpness, depending on how it is treated. It looks like both Orange Blossom and Neroli are from the Bitter Orange Tree, How the flowers are treated gives the different products. Here are a few articles I dug up on the differences between them: Perfumery materials: Neroli, Petit Grain, Orange Blossom, BigaradeThat site at Perfume Shrine has interesting info on the how the different materials are collected etc. Orange Blossom, Neroli, Petitgrain : Bitter Orange NotesThis site at Bois de Jasmin has good info and talks about the different names of the products derived from the two different trees. The Orange Tree, Neroli, Orange Blossom and Citrus in perfumeryI just really enjoyed reading that article at ÇaFleureBon.

What flowers are blooming where you live?
by Briarthorn | Off Topic
...Greysalon try tossing a ice cube on the orchid bark every few days. It's an easy way to water it without overwatering it.I've never really noticed the smell of Avacado flowers. Some people describe it as similar to a pear blossom, not bad but not great either. Personally, I have no idea. There are at so many species of mangoes growing down here. Some of the flowers are scentless others have a very strong sweetish scent. Some species scents remind me a little bit of lily-of-the-valley. Yea, there is a big spectrum of the mango flower scents. Of the scented varieties they almost all have a sweet facet to them though.

Which fragrance is a Hype-king or Overhyped?
by Briarthorn | Perfumes & Brands
...I think for me the houses that get too much hype are: L'Artisan - gone before I get to know it, serious longevity issues here Bond 9 - Just eh.( new Haarlem is an exception, I haven't tried fire Island)Chanel - the new formulations for the new crazy higher prices are robbery, just say no. My 2013 bottle of No.5 is a travesty. I haven't picked up anything else after feeling so cheated.Caron - WTH happened. Pretty much the same issues as Chanel. The reformulations make me want to cry.Dior - Basically the same reason as Chanel and CaronHouses that I think deserve more hype:Elizabeth Taylor - For the price (under $20 USD) you can't beat the quality. I am a huge fan of this line. Particularly Violet Eyes, White Diamonds Lustre, Diamonds and Emeralds, and of course Passion and Black Pearl. Love em. Money well spent. Not one of her scents I won't wear (though I admit to not trying Passion for men).Olympic Orchids - Very affordable with really good quality. Even if I didn't like the scent I appreciated the quality of what went into it. Good stuff.Guerlain - They have reworked the classics recently. Wow. It's like Wasser has managed to recapture the past glories of this house under these crazy regulations. Commendable. I am definitely going to buy the new formulations of Shalimar, Mitsouko, and Samsara before the end of the year. I really hope Dior, Caron and Chanel take up Guerlains example.

Weekly Scent Discussion #3: Classifying Orange Blossom
...Orange blossom is a scent I've spent some time with and I have found that this note is used in so many different ways. To quantify this for my own wear notes I have developed my own way of classifying this little white flower: Honeyed, White, Green, Yellow (warm) and Laundry Soap. How do you think of Orange blossom and how it's used? What way do you like it best? What examples can you share? Here are a few examples of my classifications and a quick note on my take of them:By Kilian Sweet RedemptionHoneyed and sweet. It's a very edible orange blossom. One of my favorites when the Humidity isn't too high.L`Artisan Parfumeur Seville a l'aubeThis is another honeyed one. I can't wear it because it turns into a sticky and cloying mess on me. Many people think it is the best Orange Blossom ever made. Definitely one you should try if interested in this note, because if it works on you it is magical. Maison Francis Kurkdjian APOM Pour FemmeA nice light White Orange Blossom. It isn't as sweet as the previous two but not as sharp as some of the other White Orange Blossom scents.Serge Lutens Fleurs d'OrangerThis is a nice balance between the warm and white orange blossom. It has a nice bright opening and warms up into something memorable. This is on my top 3 list for OB.Lush Orange BlossomThis is a sharp white orange blossom with a woody base. Houbigant Orangers en FleursThis one was Very sharp white on me. Almost a generic sharp white floral. I was surprised because normally anything with ylang-ylang tends to come across as warm to me. Jo Malone Orange BlossomThink of running through an orange grove in full bloom and arriving at the farm house that has lilac climbing all over thre porh. This is Jo Malone's OB. It opens Green and just like standing in an orange grove. After it warms up a bit the Grove fades into the back ground and a nice Lilac come forward. It's lovely. Truest to an orange blossom I have found.Tauer Perfumes 09 Orange StarThis one is like no other. It's kinda a love hate. When it works for you it's amazing. Otherwise you get Laundry soap. A very nice and enjoyable Laundry detergent but still kinda pricy to smell like clean clothes. It doesn't work for me but definitely one everyone should try. It lasts forever and is very strong so apply with a light hand

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
by Briarthorn | Parfumo Community
...Cryptic:I'm not sure what Google has to do with any of this. A search for "Tom Ford Neroli Portofino" lands me not in Fragrantica's forum but squarely on the perfume page, which features the ads which I assume are being censored in the forum. They need to fix that stat. Think of the children. :roll:I was thinking the same thing. If you google the BPAl scents with the pornographic labels you get taken to the BPAL site with photographs of those bottles before fragrantica. Is google holding fragrantica to different standards because it is a forum / discussion site and not a business? I am assuming because this site is not ad based, and instead paid for by donation that pressure from google would be less an issue.

What flowers are blooming where you live?
by Briarthorn | Off Topic
...Down here in Hollywood, FL My Christmas Cactus (Schlumbergera truncata) is blooming and my blackberries have buds on them, this is really exciting since they didn't bloom last year. The Bidens alba is in full swing and blanketing the yard (such a pain to mow). The mangos have just lost their bloom and the avocados are near the end of their peak too. The Star Burst (Clerodendrum quadriloculare) is also in Full bloom. I forgot how many people have it in their yards until it goes crazy. I've also seen a lot of the Orange trumpet Creeper (Pyrostegia venusta) and Bouganvilla peppering the landscape with their vibrant colors. My purple lantanas seem to always be in bloom. So does my red and yellow crown of thorns.

Weekly Scent Discussion #2: What do they all have in common?
by Briarthorn | Perfumes & Brands
...Tnahowru:order a sample of "Molecule 01" it's all ISO-E-Super.I have been meaning to do so for some time. It would be good for me to have a good base of reference for this not since it is so widely used. It seems that the consensus is that the "thing" I am search to define isn't the Iso-E. So what else could it be? It's still a mystery.
