Then, I tried it in the heat. Sicky sweet. My mom said "Buttervanillearoma", that artificial buttery vanilla aroma used for bakery. And now I get this association whenever smelling it.

Guerlain's "Cuir Beluga" and "Cuir Mauresque" by Serge Lutens might be a bit too much on the sweet side for a Chyprée, but Dior's "Diorling" and "Dzing!" by L'Artisan Parfumeur might pass. (And I confess I'm shamelessly quoting the better part of a perfumed court sampler I'm particularly pleased with, trying to cross-reference the contents with the H&R poster)Cuir Beluga is very far from being a chypre. I wouldn't even call it a leather at all. A vanilla with some hints of heliotrop and maybe a tiny bit of leather.

This week, a colleague of mine came along with it. It is a modernised version of Kölnisch Wasser which means that at first, they completely threw out the Neroli note that stands for that grandma-ish appeal of 4711. At least in Germany, they desperately need to work on their image!I think that it's time that I finally got a bottle of this... It's so famous, yet I have NO idea what it smells like! :?Breaking news: I ordered a bottle of 4711 last night from Perfumania. They are sending me a whopping 13.5 ounces for $12--with free shipping!
