...Hello, everyone!  I'm Kathryn (dig my creative user name), another refugee from Fragrantica, which was a juvenile and uncomfortable space.  I LOVE the reviews here so, so much!  I'm a happily married writer from Illinois, close to St. Louis, not Chicago.  We're Gen Xers who live under the benevolent dictatorship of our two dogs.  I've been interested in fragrance for about 15 years.  For me, fragrance is weather and mood dependent, and where we live the weather is decidedly random, especially in spring and fall, which is a great excuse for me to buy fragrances. My husband's attitude to my hobby ranges between stoic tolerance, mild amusement and "that smells amazing!"

I know someone who will almost be ill if she encounters a fragrance with a realistic green tobacco note becausexof associations with a male relative.  Another friend is in a similar situation as you. She can't stand Opium because she associates it with her birth mother, who was a very troubled person.  Another friend is very averse to anything with honeysuckle because of a bad experience.  Another friend isn't really averse to coconut, but if she smells a sweet coconut fragrance or candle, she starts talking about a bad sunburn she got almost 40 years ago, while her friends and kids all yell, "we know!!" I think we, as a group, probably have more pleasant associations with fragrance than negative ones, but I also think negative associations with fragrances/notes is pretty common.

...Serge Lutens- Fille de Berlin is a very rich, realistic, dark rose.  Good fragrance for men but also very unisex-y.

...Today, I'm wearing Yesterday Haze - Imaginary Authors.  I'm testing, and so far, I really like it.  

...My dad didn't wear fragrance.  When I waa growing up, my mom usually wore Eau de Rochas but had the original L'Air du Temps and wore that on occasion.  I much preferred the latter, but she, sensibly, ignored my preference.  When she was much older, she liked to wear White Shoulders but preferred a citrus aromatic, Ginger Milk, from Thymes.

...Hi!I'm not exactly an exile, but I am totally disenchanted with Fragrantica.  The proliferation of straight-up hate speech about unisex perfumes, juvenile reviews, and a forum full of "I want to smell like a cupcake" and "what will make me irresistible" posts was getting to me.  I actually found it depressing, which I need to avoid.  I think I'll like it here much better!
