Keiko Mecheri......an experience in understated elegance

...Good to hear that the Loukhoums aren't of the watery, translucent variety, because I like my stuff strong and obnoxious! I will sample the Loukhoum and Loukhoum Parfum du Soir - I'm after some interesting almond scents. Any other gourmand/orientals I should be looking at in the Keiko Mecheri line?

Perfumes for bedtime wear?

...Cryptic:Scent absolutely affects my dreams. I've had some weird and wonderful ones, like the time I wore Incense Rose to bed and dreamt that Andy Tauer was trying to sell me a pair of singing canaries, lol. That is funny!! Dreams are so fascinating. I believe scent affects dreams too.

Ultra-Expensive Perfumes

...Cryptic:But that's lucky, isn't it? I'm so intrigued by Shalini and Bolt of Lightning but I just don't dare...My guess is if you sample you'll be relieved to learn you can live without them, and on the off chance you fall in love, you can buy a decant. :) Given the number of different perfumes we wear, who needs a full bottle of anything anyway?

Ultra-Expensive Perfumes

Re: Ultra-Expensive Perfumes
...Cryptic:I'm talking about the JARs, Amouage attars, some of the Xerjoffs...you get the picture. What's your view of testing these costly buggers? I'm afraid to even sniff them lest I fall madly in love. Any other cowards out there? Coward, yes, or perhaps just practical? I eventually let my curiosity get the best of me and ordered some high end samples and decants, however, I won't give anything over $200 the time of day, not going to sample, don't care, it's outside my comfort zone.I don't know about other perfume categories, but in the sweet woody vanillic oriental category I have yet to find anything in expensive niche that surpasses what I already have. Wearing Samsara yesterday, I thought to myself, "Why in hell are you still exploring other perfumes?" Sometimes it feels like I've married the love of my life but still have an active account on Match.com!Also, I feel strongly that many of these high price tags are nothing more than marketing: "if we say it's worth $300, they'll believe it is." Never underestimate the allure of perceived status.

Minimalistic Perfumes

Re: Minimalistic Perfumes
...Lola82:Since in my Collection i have a lots of heavy Orientals and complex notes i'm looking for a simple Zen like fragrances Based on my own experience, I would suggest that you start by buying a sample or a mini of one of these fragrances outside your comfort zone, especially going from rich and heavy orientals to something lighter. I have tried to be more inclusive of non-sweet, non-oriental perfumes and I just couldn't find anything that satisfied me. For me it seems the intensity bar has been raised, never to be lowered again.

Perfumes for bedtime wear?

...I do love to fall asleep with the scent of something soft and calming, such as: Dior Hypnotic PoisonAnnick Goutal Vanille ExquiseGivenchy Organza IndecenceHowever, I've come to believe that my respiratory tract should get a break from perfume periodically, so I usually don't spray anything before bed. (Though I do enjoy it when something from the previous day is still there the next morning, like the magnificent Grain de Soleil that I wore yesterday. That stuff doesn't know when to quit!)Hey, do you believe that scent affects your dreams at night?

Niche-istas! Your help, please, w/ woody-vanillic orientals

...I read you fantastic review, thank you!Apicius, by the way, I see from comments that you are not a big fan of vanilla in perfume. Well, I used to be the same way, having worn Chanel No. 19 most of my adult life, and prior to that Paco Rabanne Eau de Calandre (strong aldehydes in that one!) and could never understand why anyone would want to smell of vanilla! The shift came when exploring the world of perfume became a hobby, and now I am hooked on vanilla, big time!! I can hardly imagine wearing anything without a noticeable vanilla note. And now I curse all those years I went without vanilla on my skin!

Which masculine scents can be worn by a woman?

...Before the last few years I had never considered wearing men's fragrances, nor even unisex for that matter, because most are just too masculine for my taste. Until I learned that the world of masculine and unisex fragrances is so much bigger than I previously knew. Two that I am most familiar with and wear are:Serge Lutens CHERGUIMaitre Parfumeur et Gantier AMBRE PRECIEUXI would take these to a desert island with me (along with about 10 others!). :-)

...I understand this problem. All I can say is go for Guerlain:- "Bois d'Armenie"- "Spiritueuse Double Vanille"- "Jicky:89de5bd3de]Thank you! I have tried the second two before, and I will sample Bois d'Armenie.By the way, is Bois d'Armenie similar at all to Tonka Imperiale and Angelique Noir? I've tried those already.

...Many of the ones below have sort of a popsicle sweetness to me in the drydown, which I'm not really crazy about, especially given their price tags.In the same vein, though not necessarily as sweet as these, where would you direct me to explore next?Il Profumo - Vanille BourbonIl Profume - Chocolat AmereGinestet - BoytritistFrapin - 1270Frapin - 1697Mona di Orio - Les Nombres d'Or Vanille (my favorite of these listed)Parfums de Nicolai - Vanille Intense (my second favorite of these listed)

Warm cherries

...PontNeuf:You will find lots of cherries in "Loukhoum Parfum Le Soir" by Keiko Mecheri. Mixed with almonds and ultra-deliciously sweet. That one is only for steadfast gourmand lovers :-)Hmmm . . . this sounds like it might actually be a suitable replacement for GLORIA by CACHAREL.I will sample it, but in the meantime, can anyone comment on any Gloria similarity?

Warm cherries

...Delphine67:Sherapop, I had long time ago a bottle of lolita lempicka. That whas some cherries and licorice. Is 'fleur defendue"similar to that one? or totally notIt's eternally interesting to me how differently some fragrances are received by each wearer. Fleur Defendue didn't emphasize cherries at all for me, or almonds either, which is what I was after. I found it a very fresh and light floral, with that "fresh from the shower" feeling.
