The Loriot Show
by Apicius | Off Topic
...Loriot was the best commedian we ever had! And I also love his partner on stage Evelyn Hamann.Look at the "yodel diploma" episode where Hamann plays a modern "emancipated" woman. It should be comprehensible for Non-German speakers as well:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hG6RyQCggdIOr look at this where a meter maid makes a fatal mistake:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1j6ZkMaiekIt is widely known that Germans have their difficulties with the correct pronounciation of the English "th". Look what happens if a telvision announcer has to report the content of the last episodes of an English crime TV series:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GM87uCr188Y Germans are grateful people, especially if they receive a valuable gift from their relatives in the US:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lbz5sy8jPXA

Guerlain showcasing their most expensive scents
by Apicius | Perfumes & Brands
...In Germany, Guerlain got involved with Douglas, which is the leading perfume chain store. Douglas is for Germany what Marionnaud is for France and Switzerland. You find Douglas stores everywhere, very often serveral in one town. By now they nearly killed all small perfume shops. Their lineup usually is quite poor, mostly mainstream, and the users on the German Parfumo make fun of them by telling their latest experiences with the "Douglettes" - the mostly female staff which has hardly any perfume knowledge due to the lack of commitment, education and intelligence.Usually, one Douglas store in the bigger towns is pimped up with some niche lines, and this is where a Maison Guerlain is placed. At least in some cases, the staff at the Maison Guerlains is very much different from the usual Douglas standard. The staff in Berlin and Düsseldorf is gorgeous - they are addicted to Guerlain themselves, and they have so much fun selling Guerlain perfumes that it is a joy to go there and have a few words with them. I have the suspicion some of these people accept less attractive salary just to be able to take part.

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
by Apicius | Parfumo Community
...Cryptic:I agree, Pipette...RosaMilena is the class of Fragrantica. I'll stop mocking them now. I may have gotten carried away, but the fact that they were banning people for even mentioning Parfumo ticked me off. :evil:Are they really banning people for mentioning Parfumo? Blocking their user accounts? No, this does not make any sense. I suppose, with 'banning' you mean that 'STOP SPAM' which they overwrite on the mentioning of Parfumo, don't you?

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members

...Sherapop:One thing which might be nice would be to receive notifications when a review which we have commented on is commented on. Sometimes I'm not sure whether I should respond to comments on my reviews because I don't expect people to go back to them. But if we had notifications, then it would make more sense... :idea:I just put Sherapop's request into the suggestion box. Please remember: any ideas for new features that are coming up in our dicussions will very likely stay unnoticed by Showdown and Don if we do not drop a few lines in the suggestion box!

Bois d'Arménie - tilted? Bois d'Arménie - Guerlain
by Apicius | Perfumes & Brands
...Silverfire:I haven't tried a single fragrance from this house, but as a total outsider, the endless Shalimar flankers have left a really bad taste in my mouth.Really? That's a pity, Silverfire. You should change this!Sorry, despite my experience with Bois d'Arménie, I will not join in the lament on the downfall of Guerlain. We know that the purchase by LVMH didn`t do much good to this house, but that is almost 15 years ago!Looking at the gent's colognes, they did a horrible job by changing the formula of Vetiver in 2000, the current Héritage is only a shadow of what it was before, and the so-called 'Mojito' accord in Guerlain Homme is a mess.But...with the rest of the mens' and also unisex perfumes they are still playing in the top league, also with their newer releases. They still work together with J.P Guerlain, and on the high end, Chamade pour Homme, Arséne Lupin and the still available Eau de Guerlain are among the best perfumes available on the market. Also, their mid-priced perfumes are very respectable. For those who like chocolate, their L'instant pour homme perfumes outperform the respective perfumes of other houses such as JPG's Kokoriko.Habit Rouge has survived all waves of reformulation quite unchanged, and its fresher and lighter flankers are very interestant to say the least.I also like most of the Guerlain Homme flankers which are all better than the original. As I was told at the Maison Guerlain counter, they will release another gent's cologne this year, and of course, I am very much looking forward to it.

Guerlain showcasing their most expensive scents
by Apicius | Perfumes & Brands
...Fortunately, Guerlain stopped their hard-to-get policy about 2 years ago, and since then, they are opening as many Maison Guerlains as it seems to be reasonable under a commercial aspect.Another Maison Guerlain? So, what!

Bois d'Arménie - tilted? Bois d'Arménie - Guerlain
by Apicius | Perfumes & Brands
...Today, I found out that my Bois d'Arménie is not any longer what it used to be when I bought it 2 or 3 years ago. Of course, I have stored it in a dark place.I see that the liquid has become darker, and I see a greyish flocculation. Since I have a cold it is hard to say if the fragrance itself has changed. Today, I noticed some musk in the fragrance which wasn't decernible for me before. Anyway, a 175 € fragrance should not get flocculations after 2 or 3 years.Has anybody made a similar experience with Bois d'Armémie?

Which is your favorite way of eating ?
by Apicius | Off Topic
...I see my fellow perfumistas have also discovered a link between food, diets and fragrance.Personally, when I wear perfume - especially a strong and intense one - I tend to have less appetite. The reason seems clear to me: taste and smell are not so far apart.I don't think one should deliberately misuse perfume as a replacement for snacks and sweets. One could probably create a "perfume diet" in order to loose weight, but dieting this way would probably ruin any healthy way to enjoy food as well as fragrance.I think using perfume regularly might generally help to keep in shape - beyond dieting.

Which Fragrance Evokes the Most Memories for You and Why?
by Apicius | Perfumes & Brands
...In 1997, I had my first job as a lawyer. I had to leave my home town for it, and I was living alone in a remote place in East Germany. It was winter, we had extreme cold, and the plain landscape was covered with snow and ice. I felt both lost and thrilled by my new experiences at the same time. At the weekends, I used to drive to the next bigger town which was about 45 minutes by car. Once, I noticed a bird of prey right next to the country road. It was a buzzard or a red kite, and he had hit a rabbit and was now sitting on his prey, his claws driven deep into the flesh in order to defend it against the car traffic. He kept sitting there for days!Somehow, this bird reflected my own situation and my mood. The plain and empty winter landscape, the snow and the cold, the icy starry nights and this bird of prey are now linked in my mind with the ozonic touch of Jesus del Pozo's "Quasar" which I happened to wear at that time. Quasar is a respectable and recommendable aquatic which most people would probably regard as a summer fragrance. For me, however, it is winter only!
