...Those little tabletop trees are a stroke of genius for precious elderly people who have no business climbing a stepladder with an armful of garland or a string of lights. That was a very thoughtful gift. :)

...It's a very basic game but you can learn some interesting things about your friends. The rules are simple: pick your favorite of the two choices and then take a turn. Coffee or tea?

...That would be wonderful if you got a volunteer or two, Apicius. The welcome messages are a nice touch and I recall you asking us to help out with them in the past. I'll try to pitch in with that task when I can.

...Over the holidays our dog chewed open a garbage bag and trash picked the turkey carcass. What a fartfest we had to suffer through that night. Come to think of it, that wasn't funny at all except maybe for the dog.

...I'm not certain you can have it all in one place. The forums at Basenotes and Fragrantica are always buzzing but the amenities pale in comparison to Parfumo. I've noticed that the people who come here from other sites seem to be glad to escape the trolling and other nastiness, and perhaps some of them simply want to pursue their hobby in peace by organizing their collections, writing reviews, blogging, adding to the fragrance directory and submitting photos. Nothing wrong with that. Besides, you can't force people to mingle with each other (unless you happen to have liquor ;)).

Does incense draw attraction?
by Cryptic | Perfumes & Brands
...Epimedes:I actually got complimented a few times when I was wearing scents that had a definite smoky element in them. Such as "Interlude Man", CBIHB "#305 Burning Leaves", Encre Noire (Eau de Toilette)Encre Noire Eau de Toilette, to give a few examples. Never for 'straight' incense. It's strange though that CdG 2 Man drew a very negative reaction from people around me. Can't explain it, but I didn't particularly care for that one either, so I happily gave it away.My experience has been similar. The Amouage line with its frankincense garners compliments, probably because the smokiness is heavy but balanced. On the other hand, I wore Serge Noire at work just once and was told I smelled like something burning -- a crematorium, to be specific. It seems like people who aren't particularly cosmopolitan about perfume find the smell of incense disconcerting out of the context of church, at least when it's front and center in a fragrance. I still enjoy Serge Noire but I don't wear it to work lest I be thought of as a secret pyromaniac.

Placebo fragrance therapy?
by Cryptic | Perfumes & Brands
...Gosh, I remember when that Monell study about a possible psychosomatic factor in asthma attacks was first published and a similar article made the rounds in the Facebook groups. A few people dismissed the study because it was conducted on a small scale, so hopefully broader research is in the pipeline. Thanks for the interesting link, Grey.
