Vintage Thrills

...Nothing wrong with used fragrances, most of mine are. I had a used Anne Klein 11, however I can't remember what it smelled like.

The functional no-nos of perfume bottles

...Sherapop:Greysolon: The one bottle design that brings company image, functionality and ergonomics together in one package is by Tommy Bahama. Image-wise their bottles are all about pitching their seaside merchandise: The bottle shape is that of a wave or sail and the cap looks like driftwood or a polished beach stone. In terms of ergonomics, that sail shaped (concave/convex) bottle fits perfectly in the hand and directs the spray perfectly every time. Too bad I don't actually wear Tommy Bahama!I have often been tempted by those bottles! There are so many flankerized perfumes in the Tommy Bahama line-up that I cannot imagine that they are any good--especially since I regularly spot them at TJMAXX reduced to $10 or $12. But I should at least test the originals, rather than continuing on in my state of ignorance.... :roll:That may not always be true Sherapop, I heard from a manager at TJ Maxx that they get discontinued fragrances because of the new reformulated ones. That may be true but I would doubt if that refers to all TJ's frags. I do know I bought my Estee PC Tuberose Gardenia severasl years ago reduced to a affordable price for me. I had heard it was reformulated after TJ received it.

Living well is the best revenge...

...Eurochic:There are so many perfumes that make me feel good, it changes from day to day, depending on my mood, and my chemistry. In the morning when choosing my perfume I sniff the nozzles, and pick the one that "speaks to me" that day.One that never fails to make me feel good is "Gucci Eau de Parfum". When I wear this I just want to sniff the skin off my arms. I could bathe or drown in this stuff.I will have to try that, makes sense to me. I have a vintage "Gucci Eau de Parfum" and the nozzle is missing, I want to smell this perfume so much. I have thought about breaking the bottle and pouring into cheesecloth. The perfume that makes me feel good is Lillie Rubin a wonderful floral. Love vintage Samsara too.

The end of a love affair-Scents that have lost their magic ?

...I believe my problem is seasonal, some perfumes don't smell good on me in the winter but I like them in the summer. Crazy. I never toss them, just change with the seasons.

Less likely to buy discontinued fragrances?

...I find my vintages at local estate sales. Afraid of Ebay, fear of the unknown, so to speak. I guess I have been lucky with buying vintages, only the top notes of some were missing. I can layer or tell my self,....Hey self.... those top layers were going to fade anyway.

I'm wondering about these fairly mass market new Iris scents

...http://www.chandlerburr.com/newsite/content/emperorofscent/perfumeprevious.phpIris, handled correctly, is liquid good taste. It also, incidentally, does not exist. It is impossible for technical reasons to wring any natural scent from iris flowers, and all iris scents are created with synthetic molecules: Ionones, inexpensive but quite nice, irones, very expensive and gorgeous, and marvelous orris aldehydes can simulate terrific iris scents. Here are four masterpieces built on the smell of iris: Chanel 19, the most abstract, Bois d'Iris by the niche French house The Different Company, the most severe, the most austere, and Iris Poudre by Pierre Bourdon for Frédéric Malle's collection, the most velvet, thick, luxurious. The least severe is Dior Homme. Polge has used a light, assured, masterly touch that turns this iris into the sheerest sheet of crisp silk, as close to perfection as it's possible to get. It has the grace of a Japanese maple and the cool of a leopard. It is the most elegant thing I've smelled in years.
