Basenotes/Parfumo Comparison
by Pipette | Parfumo Community
Slow response time when typing
...It is the technical side of BN that slows me down. So, I copy/paste a post I did, from Parfumo to BN, to elicit their responses, from a slightly different and certainly more voluminous crowd, and what happens: When submitting the software says: Leave that page. I know from past posting that "Leaving that page" can make your post disappear in Cyberspace, but no, it arrived - as intended - nevertheless. I am prone to praying "please make my input arrive" whenever I post. That is discouraging. Here, on Parfumo, the thoughts flow, the input is made, things are under control, life continues.I cannot sit at the keyboard wasting time.

Your own personal aura
by Pipette | Perfumes & Brands
...We put perfume on mainly for pleasure. As an extension of our personality.Does it depend upon your mood, when you project that "fresh from the shower" feeling? Do you want to begin the working day energized and full of vitality? There is a huge topic over at the German site, that cites the "Saubaer" fragrances. So, this is that clean, clean feeling. Then, there is another type of perfume presence. The feeling comes from a muffled, soft, understated feel that rollerball application provides. Because they can be applied at the pulse points, and work soft and warming up to more intensity. Slightly slept in clothes, warm and comforting. The ouds and the orientals with lots of basenotes provide that undefinable, rather personal aura. This topic is started to invite examples of both types of perfume presence.Clean, clean - super clean.Restrained, refined, mysterious - inviting.

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
by Pipette | Parfumo Community
...Dolby:There is a difference between omitting essential contextual details in order to make yourself look the innocent party, and being accurate with the facts. Don't go deriding and mocking people who seek sympathy when you've done the same (and worse) is all I'm saying... Else, don't be surprised if it comes and bites you back in the ass. There is a big difference between a Troll who was recognized as such - and to which I was referring to at the outset of this discussion - who wanted to leave and 3 pages of posts followed his nonsense, and a long standing member, myself, who wanted at one point to leave and changed her mind. So what? People change their mind all the time. Fragrantica has its good points and that is the reason I am staying.

...Ha ha ha ha ... let's cut it right here and not continue Fragrantica drama on this nice PARFUMO platform. I feel comfortable - as of this date - on all three major discussion platforms. I use "platforms" over "group" ... because we are exposed on a platform and cannot always agree within a group.

...Dolby:Yes, and "some" don't just announce their goodbyes, but go as far as setting up a poll (yes, you read that right) to know whether they are worshiped on said forum or not.Talk about desperation, so to that " someone ", kindly do us all a favour and remember the saying regarding people who live in glass houses.Ah thank you. Yes, I have once set up a Poll. The question was: "Do you like my posts? Yes. No.There is nothing wrong with that kind of process to see whether I can write good journalism.Because in another Forum, The Perfume Magazine, I was about to publish a story titled, "A Christmas Story". Being hesitant about my journalistic faculties, I thought to take a Poll inside the lively Fragrantica Forum. The results came in. They were disappointing. 60% NO 40% YES The results were influenced by the fact that just the idea to dare take a Poll, was frowned upon.Politicians do take Polls all the time. Mayor Koch, "How am I doing?"Now, I have clarified the historic past, for all who read to smile. No need to throw stones at glass houses.Cheers.

Basenotes/Parfumo Comparison
by Pipette | Parfumo Community
...Well, for a while, BN members will be discouraged that the material from Huddler Archive is not restored in the immediate future, but after a while, they will start new threads and continue from there. It just takes too long.I have my Wardrobe and all its excellent functions solely on Parfumo. There is no need to duplicate the Wardrobe on either Basenotes nor on Fragrantica.Going to Fragrantica for Notes and excellent front page articles, and going to Basenotes for lively and intelligent discussions.

Troll
...So, over at Fragrantica a Troll was recognized. Then he said, "I am leaving, good bye" and 3 pages with 70 posts followed this ego-centered announcement. If somebody wants to leave, LEAVE. And the crowd should not feed into this, not with even one single post. Except, "Good bye."

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members

...On Fragrantica, there is a section "Individual Members" topics. This is pretty much the only spot I still use. It is a personal spot, almost like Facebook but without the photos. There is nothing professional or perfume-related about it. Perfume conversations and professional interchange takes place on the large sphere of the Discussion Forums. In that way, Basenotes, Fragrantica, Parfumo all are a touch impersonal because it is the perfume subject matter that is being elaborated upon. The personal corners develop slowly as the members get to know one another.Basenotes reminds me of New York City "Grand Central Station" where people run and pass each other.Fragrantica reminds me of "sleep over romper room" with young folks exchanging opinions.Parfumo reminds me of a "neatly arranged perfume boutique with shelves and everything available at the finger tips" and a crowd that is yet too small and only growing a little.

Do perfumistas fuel a renaissance in high-end perfumery?
by Pipette | Perfumes & Brands
...Interesting read. In 2008 they mention Basenotes. Meanwhile Basenotes has grown and meanwhile Parfumo was born.Yes, we perfumistas have our own lingo. Whether the industry spies really read? That is still a mystery to me. Sniffapalooza get-togethers are mentioned. They still take place yearly in New York City. The place to go to on Saturday is uptown, mainly Bergdorf Goodman and Sunday, downtown SOHO small specialty boutiques. Long live the perfumistas !!!

What's in a fragrance name?
by Pipette | Perfumes & Brands
Descriptive names
...Some examples of poetic fantasy inspiring names -MDCI Paris - "Enlevement au Serail" Ha hah ... now there is something to fantasize about.Isabey - "La Route d'Emeraude" how the merchants traveled the green route to bring back spices from the Orient.MDCI Paris - "Vepres Siciliennes" named after the opera.Bond No. 9 brings out perfumes reminiscent of NYC neighborhoods, like "Little Italy" and "Manhattan" and "Chinatown" etc. That was already started in Paris, with"24, Faubourg" and "Montaigne" and "Jardins de Bagatelle" etc. The labels LOVE ... PARADISE ... GOLD ... SEXY ... are used endlessly.

What's in a fragrance name?
by Pipette | Perfumes & Brands
...In order to be interested, to sniff or to buy, I need a name. Not a number. See this link http://olfactoriastravels.com/2013/12/03/terroir-perfumes-by-richard-luscher-britos-a-perfume-launch-in-zurich/ describing the line of Terroir perfumes. It is not very tempting to choose a bottle with a number. The scarves would have been most interesting in the exhibition. In the replies most everyone mentioned the scarves. Why? Because they were visual. To find out where your perfume is located, one has to consult the map??Maybe it is not too late to update the Marketing. Just add a name and in parentheses put the location. Then the concept is preserved and the customer does not have "to work so hard". A label (name) should draw the prospective buyer IN, a number does not do it. (I did recently a course of statistics and the numbers Sigma this, Sigma that ... bored me to death.) Perfumes are fantasy items. They need poetic names. Moreover, (the worst is) that not many people know that Terroir in this context means territory. Only winemakers may be familiar with that. So, at first blush, the French word Terroir is too close to the English word "Terror" = fear and that might make an unfortunate association. It's possible. Sorry.

Reviving original formulas
by Pipette | Perfumes & Brands
...Why is the House Oriza L. Legrand the only one to revive the original formulas, almost identical as way back in early 1925?The other Houses, like Chanel, Guerlain, Fath, etc. etc. have their original formulas still in the records as well. But they don't revive the early scents, as far as I know. The excuse is usually, the ingredients are dangerous to the public health, thus we MUST REFORMULATE. My question is, if one House can do it, why not the others?

Help! My Laundry Smells Like Oud!
by Pipette | Perfumes & Brands
...After a shower with say, Dove shower gel, I take a brush and clean the bath tub with that gel at the same time. This way, the bathroom smells special.Generally, I keep the environment clean of smells. It is fun, however, to have a good piece of soap at the kitchen sink and wash the hands often. Makes housework easier.I love to spray on perfume in the early morning, take a brisk walk and come home to my scented house (bedroom) which has still the remnants of MY perfume. Of course, the "Scent of the Day" changes more often still, as the day goes on. In the evening, the house smells special.I believe that everyone's house has a certain smell, recognizable by visitors. The own nose might get a little numb over time.

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
by Pipette | Parfumo Community
..."Katniss" ... hunger games ... it probably has a rebellious appeal to the young Fragrantica crowd. So, link a perfume to it. Perfumes are fantasy anyway.I remember that in the old days of my Fragrantica presence, we had a great game topic going, with dungeons, tiny dragons being bred, and witches brew perfume concoctions being invented. The fantasies and bantering were hilarious. All in the space of the fake world internet. Where almost anything goes, if there are followers to the idea. No different from well-thought-out video games, also performed on the screen from a keyboard. I am not suggesting that fantasy games ought to be started here, but the Parfumo Forums need a little more life and spontaneity.
