Weekly Scent Discussion #18: Many or just a Few?
by Sorceress | Perfumes & Brands
...new scents for myself out of what I already own. This past summer, I took a few months to create my own perfume from my own fragrances and my own fragrant oils. It was a labor of love and pure enjoyment of fragrance. The end result was something I can truly call my own.I use all of my fragrances, I...

Sniff Fest - Learning Chypre
...no leather listed, I smell it and cumin, osthmanthus. Yasmin asks to sniff osthmanthus from my perfumery notes kit—ah, yes, it’s a bright and fragrant floral halfway between apricot and peach, if perhaps more powerful. Also immortelle, the everlasting flower (wait, wonder if that would work on a...

Sniff Fest - Learning Chypre
...remove the labdanum. We are no longer in the land of Chypre de Coty’s hypnotic, languid, animalic, mossy bliss. We are beneath an oak tree in a a fragrant meadow, possibly the best meadow ever. It’s pointless to compare them, like trying to choose between stars and moons. Which do I prefer? Both... returns us to the classic chypre accord, save for bergamot which is no big loss since galbanum, plum and violet stand in for it so well.” Sweetly fragrant cardamon is added to the classical jasmine-rose-iris floral heart. Amber is in the base which is otherwise pure chypre: oakmoss, labdanum, patchouli...

...Blond. I’ve looked forward to exploring this one. It means blond suede or pale suede. Wow, dryly beautiful on first sniff. On skin it reeks a fragrant wood of some kind. Must be in the leather note because there’s no wood listed. Instead, it has the curious combination of cardamom, pink hawthorn...

It's *really* interesting to read your notes...I've read notes for years, and when I get a scent in the mail, many times it's not at all what I expected it to be like... I am so amazed that someone got "Bitter Coffee" from Cafe Diem..., especially when others get hardly any coffee, and they get more sweet rolls to it. hmmm...But I must confess that I don't hardly use any vanilla in my scents, *THE* most popular fragrance element used in the World...I feel like this Cadillac Commercial, (Which the clip cuts off the opening question:) "You know what's the world's favorite Ice Cream Flavor?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GTlPQyQ-gY"But if you're in the mood for something tasty, test drive one of these..."I find a sympathetic partner for eschewing filling our lives with Vanilla, in Cadillac, or at least for this one commercial... :-)Hope you all keep smellin' good! PKI don't mean offense for what I said. I wear saccharine sweet scents, so you can imagine my collection is full of fake vanilla sugary sweetness. :P It's a different kind of gourmand than what I am used to in the commercial world.
