The rules generally relate to the responsibility in which subjects are discussed. The problems that have arisen there have nothing to do with the subject. It is hypocritical to provide a section where people feel they can discuss other matters then be censored when these topics are unpleasant to the administration or members become irresponsible and immature. Most forums have moderators specifically for these sections.Forgive me if I'm wrong. ***********************************************************I have to say that this seems frequently to be a fact there.

...florette:"a redolence likened to a suggestively wild, insensibly fixated coquette," est un exemple de netiquette.Ceci étant à subjective, par de l'écrivain comprehénsive comment le lecteur perçoit cette forme d'expression.I like that actually! Now I have to find a perfume to use it on!

Re: Languages, languages ... express yourselves
...Apicius:FloraMilena:Ok it's good to clarify, so direct associative NEGATIVE criticisms using humans as parallel would be against Parfumo's netiqutte. To be more precise, I would presumably tolerate a statement saying "this perfume smells like a drug addict on crack" although I would not consider this very witty or interesting. But saying "all who wear this perfume are drug addicts, gangsters, underclass people and so on" should be avoided. This would be aimed at the wearers, and people who like this fragrance might feel personally offended. If I read such a statement I would at least leave a comment.LOL Apicius, thanks for the candor. Clarity is appreciated. And it sounds reasonable to me. :D

Some thoughts about cats and dogs
by FloraMilena | Off Topic
...Dlane1953:I recently read that attempted adoptions of black cats goes up dramatically in the weeks leading up to Halloween. This unnatural spike in adoptions has led many of our local shelters to refuse to rehome black cats/kittens during the month of October.I agree with this one. Also even dogs I think should be kept indoors on Halloween. There seems to be always (in the USA at least) some large activity of animal cruelty and other horrifying acts that go on around Halloween. We have to protect our pets from the lunatics out there.

The Science of Scent
by FloraMilena | Perfumes & Brands
The Hospital!
...After a long week I find myself more sensitized and craving of beautiful scents. It's not the disinfectants that actually bother me the most, it's the various smell of disease like infected purulent cancer sores, necrosis on people still living, etc etc etc. That can be nauseatingly overwhelming depending on how bad it is. Maybe that is why I have a dislike of too strong animalics. I don't want to be reminded of other people's flesh when I apply perfume to myself. And yes I notice that when I am in the hospice ward per se, the patients actually are happy to smell me, so are most of the other nurses (except one who has allergies to roses as she says, but it's not allergies she just doesn't like them.) So when I'm in hospice, I feel like the light fresh scents are therapeutic to the patients. And in hospice where I am there is not a legal requirement to be scent free, the patients can also wear whatever perfume or cologne they feel like. So that is nice.I was a vet tech for 18 years before I was a human nurse. And you can never tell what will set off a terrified cat or dog...or monkey. And often they don't mind until you get up close to restrain them for blood draws and the like. Then they are just trying to get away and it can become unmanageable. I stopped wearing perfume when I worked at the vet for that reason. Sometimes a dog or cat would lick my arm because they liked the scent, but then the same scent could negatively affect another pet. So I just stopped.Oh for a doctor in an office I would definitely not wear anything. You have such a wide variety of people there many with asthma and heart/lung problems, breathing is such a major issue that it isn't worth the potential trouble, especially if someone sues you saying that you caused their asthma attack.

...WolfM:Of course, Apicius. This colorful example is hyperbolized. As well as I wouldn't use precisely this Jack Nicholson herein :)Such language could be used to be funny;in a serious review, in order to be your criticism scathing - you don't need it. That is hysterical. Might get a picture back in reverse with a photo of an irate Hannibal Lecter. LMFAO!

Re: Languages, languages ... express yourselves
...Apicius:WolfM:''...only a filthy drug addicted prostitute high on crack would wear...''Oh no, such a statement would be against the netiquette on Parfumo! It is okay to use harsh words if a perfume deserves it but please make sure your criticism is aimed at the perfume and not the people who wear it.Ok it's good to clarify, so direct associative NEGATIVE criticisms using humans as parallel would be against Parfumo's netiqutte. (I do see the parallel reverse used allover quite liberally such as, "A ravishingly beautiful exotic princess luxuriating in a milk-bath scattered with roses would smell like this.")

Great articles!
...I voted for knowing!I have seen lack of smell sensitivity from working in a hospice setting. My personal experience with these patients does correlate with what is said about the aging brain, dementia and scent sensitivity loss. It's sad really. One of the last senses to go is hearing for the average person...at least music can be enjoyed.

Re: Languages, languages ... express yourselves
...Pipette:Oui, subjectives ... mais polis. Savoir choisir et exprimer les polis mots et opinions, tout cela pour l'enrichment d'esprit et de la passion partagee par tous les parfum afficionados. Now I will switch into English - for the benefit of mostly English participants. Although I have a fascination with all things French, especially perfumes and love to practise, the above text is translated as follows:"Yes, subjective ... but polite. To know how to choose and express polite words and opinions, all that for the enrichment of the mind and of the passion which is shared by all the perfume afficionados."Cheers.I think that it is good to be honest in the reviews. It's difficult to be polite beyond any criticism because some people will think that anything negative that is said about a perfume they love is rude, no matter how courteously worded.I could say, "I find the blend to be, somewhat unpleasant." That statement could be interpreted as rude by a super-sensitive person that loves that particular perfume. So it is difficult to write anything if you consider anything that could be possibly construed as impolite. Also, to say that XYZ perfume smells like something only a filthy drug addicted prostitute high on crack would wear is very insulting by personal association, but what if the person knows EXACTLY what that smells like, literally, and REALLY MEANS IT.To use explicitly foul language and profanity is generally offensive and that perhaps is avoidable, although what shall we do if it is used in a complimentary fashion to express extreme delight? So where to draw the line? It's an interesting idea but hard to be completely equitable in enforcing censorship without pushing your own personal socio/political views.

Re: Comments on subjective preferences.
...MiaTrost:Dlane1953:All thoughtful reviews are welcome--I think that's a "given" here at Parfumo.I would love to agree but I am afraid it is not, at least not always. A fellow perfume aficionado from bn had joined Parfumo some time ago and contributed lots of reviews. To me these reviews were thoughtful, witty and strikingly well phrased. Yet, a couple of members took exception to the author's style of writing, stating that it should be more factual and less creative - one did so publicly. Sadly the author has left Parfumo because of that. Rather sensitive reaction? Possibly. However, this kind of criticism leaves a sour taste because it represents a presumptuous attitude I had not expected to be existent at Parfumo.Well that is unfortunate that the person left! :(

...I have the DAMASCENA and the MOGADOR. I prefer the MOGADOR's rich rosy low-sweet goodness on my skin. The DAMASCENA is a lovely fruity rose, but I prefer Diptyque's Eau Rose for that.

What new perfumes have that 'classic' potential?
by FloraMilena | Perfumes & Brands
...CuteChemist:I'm gonna get shot for saying this, but Coco Noir, IMHO, is "classic" material!I agree with this. I think COCO NOIR will easily become a future classic.

They moved one
...Well they moved another topic and then made a large apology, citing time constraints and other things. Oh and then they closed that thread. It seems they get flustered over complaints, but don't consider the source. Oh well. It you get a bunch of shrieking from haters....ignore it. That sends the message that their hate will not be tolerated. Very simple.

Re: Hello Scarletting
...Scarletting:FloraMilena:Scarletting:FloraMilena:I've been here for awhile. :DYes, I noticed your similar username. So far here on Parfumo you seem nice enough so I assume you know that would not wash here.I never change no matter which site I am on. If someone were to actually engage in denigratory or personally insulting comments against old people, the aged, gays, lesbians, atheists, or engage in hate speech, especially in the context of perfume choices in a perfume forum, I would speak right up. That will never change.I stand for the same things, though it would seem we fight for them differently. That said, even if I don't respect your method I can appreciate your intent. :D
