...so keep checking there -- it will take a bit of time to edit and post all of them. So far got the Russian one up, along with pix of an old russian perfume that my mom had used up but kept the bottles.

My mom's forgotten perfume stash
...Just got back from a visit to my mother's place. She stopped wearing perfume some years ago. We rediscovered her stash which I've inventoried and photographed. She let me take a small bottle of Chanel No.5 (7 ml. perfume) that was still in its cellophane wrapper and with the price tag of 150 Franks on it. Any one guess at a date? How fun! Unopened, there were Belle de Rauche, Cabochard, Magie, Raphael Plaisir, Balmain Jolie Madame, Caron Fleurs de Rocaille, Chloe Eau de Parfum, Jean D’Albret's Ecusson, Ivoire de Balmain and even a Russian perfume, "mojet buite" (I don't have a cirillic keyboard) (Maybe), and three Nina Ricci: L'air du Temps, Farouche, and Premier JourI've been trying to find info on everything, which for one or two is a bit challenging.

A question to native English speakers: sillage
projection and sillage
...I don't think the metaphor associated with the word "projection" does justice to the experience of someone else's perfume. My opinion is that "sillage" is a better word because it's a better metaphor.Others have already pointed out it is a french word and in English means wake.I don't think of a wake as the volume of water displaced by a boat-- yes the water has been displaced but then it's rushing back in behind the boat. So a wake is that dynamic process with a series of waves emanating from the space the boat is moving out of.Bodies as they move through the air cause a wake as well. The scent is carried on the wake of air.Or one could use the metaphor of a cloud or a breeze, (although each of these imply a different atmospheric mechanism) but I think sillage is the most poetic.

Shopping on ebay - any advice
...I searched the forum and couldn't find any thread on this topic. I have heard that there are risks to purchasing perfumes on ebay. I was wondering if any one here has any pointers for how to sus' out the quality/reputation of the sellers, or what questions to ask before buying. Also if bottles are undated, how can a seller or buyer tell if a perfume is the vintage formulation rather than current formulation? And also, care to share any stories of positive or negative experiences buying perfume through ebay? Thanks!
