Your Most Worn Perfumes

...Sleuth: I'm with Briarthorn on this one. Much as I love Breath of God, it's not a close-quarters office scent, for sure! Luckily, I work by myself... is the refined version of "I need to stay awake." THAT one I wear around other people!I feel kind of the same way about "Pure Energy/Pure Shot," Sleuth. Is that a "keep yourself awake" scent for you...

Suggestions for a sweet cheapie for all occasions?

...Hi all,I'm looking for a replacement of my "Amber pour Homme" because it's just not my taste. Apicius already recommended "J'S Extè Man", "Custo Man" and "Arpège pour Homme". They are probably very good, but I'm fed up with blind buys......So I'm still looking for a sweet fragrance and preferrably with the following properties:- it's cheap, €30 / $35 or less- it's fine for work and social occasions- no blind buys please, I like scents that are a bit more complexThings that would qualify would be: "Bvlgari Black", "Fleur du Mâle", "The Dreamer", but I think I can do better :)I'm looking forward to your suggestions!

Weekly Scent Discussion #8: Those notes that you rock.

...Nice topic :)Tobacco, tobacco flower and aquatics work very well for me. I really like them.Ideal combo's: I like wearing flowers, they cheer me up. I'm talking about violet that isn't sweet, some ylang ylang and moderate amounts of rose. Usually I feel most comfortable with cologne compositions, like "Hommage a l'Homme".Note from hell: star anise. Theoretically it can smell great but it never does for me. Opium pour Homme and even LIDGE are bad on me and make me feel uncomfortable.

Suggestions for a patchouli-centric fragrance

...I've never tried a Juliette Has A Gun fragrance so "Vengeance Extreme" might be interesting. Leather and patchouli, hmm...Sleuth and Flavorite, the Italian houses always interest me so I Profumi di Firenze's "Patchouly Rosso" and "Patchouly Noir - Osmo / Patchouli Noir - Osmo...

Venturing into niche/artisan perfumes

...I haven't encountered Bpal or Siberie yet. My favourite niche houses are Maison Francis Kurkdjian and IL Profvmo. - Lush is also a favourite of mine, I consider them artisanal perfumes because they´re so unconventional. I´d also like to try another one by Kerosene, he started as a fragrance reviewer but he has been making perfumes for some years [email protected] Flavorite: Interesting that you recommend Illuminum, because what I heard on forums was that it was a bit "meh". So why do you like them so much? Which are the best ones?

Weekly Scent Discussion #6: Labels of Men vs Woman and you

...this. thanks for the lead.Mill4r4, you are not alone in your love of Shalimar. That's the one woman's perfume I have heard many men admit to using. Sleuth, I can definitely see drawing the line at sugar bombs, pink rose and heady white florals. Perhaps it's because these scents tend to effectively cover...

Weekly Scent Discussion #6: Labels of Men vs Woman and you

...This is always a nice topic as it pops up every now and then :)I think Passion for Men fits right in with the women's trend of dark orientals. So: Good choice! A line I don't cross is: concentrated jasmine, pink 'Paris' rose (though no problem with dark rose), pink suger bombs. I prefer to avoid tuberose almost always.Things I do consider for myself: ylang (challenging but I love the flower).I like lily of the valley but it's difficult to find that's right for me - yes I think I'm a flower guy lol. Some women's perfumes are fine for guys but I prefer to avoid them because they're too well known (Dior Midnight Poison)

Iso E Super: inspired invention or chemical horror?

...Nice topic, Greysolon.I'm not really pro or anti. Generally speaking I like it when perfumers have a big palette of ingredients to work with. That's how I see Iso E Super and also how I see calone: They have a function and can lead to some good creations. I wear TDH but I'm not crazy about it anymore. But it's undeniable that it has good longevity thanks to Iso E Super. I also smelled "Molecule 01", which consists purely of Iso E Super. On the one hand it's impressive that the 1 molecule can have several different scent-aspects at the same time. But on the downside, it made me sneeze. It's also one of those molecules that stays in my nose for hours, whether you want it or not. So - not a fan, not a hater either. Now I'm really curious what cologne your acquaintance uses! Maybe a synthetic oud? On the other hand the cages of rodents really smell sour, so I hope he changes to something with more calone :)

Particles inside the perfume?

...sleuth said, it can mean different things. Sometimes particulates can form over time. If the scent still smells like it should I wouldn't be concerned...

Particles inside the perfume?

...I'm no expert, but I'll tell you what I know. Well, it can mean different things.Sometimes it's normal, because perfume has all sorts of chemicals at high concentrations. I had that with "Dune pour Homme". So it's normal for that one and I've seen it with other perfumes too. Sometimes the threads and colours go away of you move the bottle gently. But personally I don't care, I don't shake my bottles! :)Other times it can mean that your fragrance has deteriorated, it's gone bad. How old is your bottle? I had one bottle from 1990 and someone put it in the window sill. Wrong decision! It was ruined and it smelled sour.. I couldn't see the colour but I expect that it had changed too. -- But also new fragrance can go bad, for example if you expose it to heat or sunlight. I had a tester vial of "Encounter" and I cleaned it with warm water. Immediately the colour changed. So if you expose your fragrance to heat or sunlight, it can go bad. With threads sometimes.But... If there's only a little bit of threads and it still smells good, then No Problem. :)
