Regulations for perfume on airplane?
by Sorceress | Perfumes & Brands
...So I'll be traveling in a few months. I haven't traveled by plane in years. Obviously I'll need to bring perfume with me. I've googled the rules. I don't want anything tossed at the airport. Would it be best to bring rollerballs of what I want? Or little sprayers that you can fill yourself? And if I manage to purchase anything at my destination, can I bring it back on the plane with me?Also, what type of perfumes do they sell on the plane/airports? Huge mark-ups? Because obviously if I purchase something there, I can bring that on the plane, correct?I'm having panic attacks already....Thanks for the advice.

Tragedy. When perfumes turn
by Sorceress | Perfumes & Brands
...I've been lucky. Everything is good. I'll agree that using the sprayer a number of times for some odd reason makes the perfume seems to smell better. I've only had to do that with one bottle of perfume that was dated from 1992, and it worked. The first few sprays seemed minimal at best, until I used that trick. Then afterwards, the perfume was good as new. It was as if the perfume fairy had blessed the bottle again and a miracle had happened. Definitely a trick to remember!

Cultural influence on perfume taste
by Sorceress | Perfumes & Brands
...As an American, I would say that those of us that have been involved with perfumes for decades as a hobby are much more into the heavier scents because we have traveled down the path and experienced more. We probably crave more. We were raised on heavier perfumes, also. The younger generation is being influenced by so much mass marketing now thrown at them through the internet, magazines, television and so much mass media that they really have no idea what they should be choosing for themselves based on individuality. They base their choices on popularity instead. Or on who the current popular singer is that is hawking a perfume. And that's pretty sad. As far as fresh and clean scents, I've never worn them. I find them boring. I want substance in my perfume. Something that's "fresh and clean" would seem like something that would disappear too quickly for my nose and liking. But I also believe that age at times may have something to do with personal preferences. Not that you can peg perfumes with an age group, but you can say the longer a person has been delving into perfumes as a perfumista, then the more sophisticated and deeper their tastes may be, the stronger their perfumes may be. Perhaps the more a perfume addict searches, the deeper their abyss is.

Your Perfume - How about a refill?
by Sorceress | Perfumes & Brands
...Hayven:There is a source "fountain" at a local Ulta, and I have never seen it touched. How well kept and how often is the source refilled?Really? How big is your Ulta? I've never seen such a thing at my Ulta...now I'm going to tease the ladies there and ask them where is the fountain...As far as refills, not for any perfumes that I can think of that I might purchase today. I haven't emptied any bottles. I have too many that I rotate that I don't come close to emptying any. Altho if I knew I could get refills of Dior Addict and D&G Intense at a discount...hmmmm, I might use them more oftem...

Parfumo Received Written Warning
by Sorceress | Parfumo Research
...Seems ridiculous that Parfumo cannot use their name. In a way , it's free advertising for them on your site. Now, no one knows what it is if they happened upon it. It's really their loss. And it's a shame that Parfumo will have to pay out money for this, too.

On Neapolitan Perfume - Layering
...Lately I've been layering "Nicole Miller" with "Anne Klein II". Both are heavy but when Nicole Miller dries down it's a nice warm honeyed amber with spices and tonka bean for me. Add the golden deliciousness of Anne Klein II and I'm in absolute heaven for hours on end. It seems to last forever on me.I also like "Nude by Rihanna" with "Vanilla Musk" by Coty. It seems to bring out Nude to greater depths and makes it last much, much longer.

Trying Harder
by Sorceress | Perfumes & Brands
...I believe there are just some perfumes that are not made for me, no matter what the season, no matter what I do to try them, no matter what I do with layering. I have certain bottles of perfume that are relegated to the back burner that I sniff every so often because I love the scent until I put them on. Then I want to wash them off.Chanel No. 5 is one of them. Mitsouko, which the world adores, sits lonely on my bureau. Why do some of the greats not agree with me. They just don't. But yet, I love their scents. They just don't really do it for me upon application. Aromatics Elixir is another. At least I know I've tried many a time, and I go on to others. There are far too many in our world to adore than to worry about a few that don't agree with me when I actually apply them. I can open the bottles and sniff any time. And then go on to a perfume that adores me and I adore it. Life is too short to wrestle with a perfume.

How to remove perfume?
by Sorceress | Perfume Discussions
...I'm not a chemist and wouldn't understand the why's, but the hand sanitizer I use is 62% ethyl alcohol vs. a 91% isopropyl alcohol that I could also use straight. The sanitizer also has glycerin and aloe in it to soften the rub. I just know it works. I purchase mine at my local Dollar Store and use it for a variety of things. It's easy on the skin. I'm glad it worked for you, Greysolon.

Spring is in the air!
by Sorceress | Perfumes & Brands
...Funny to hear you ask about spring fragrances, Apicius. Where I live it's still cold. As a matter of fact, I went on a photo shoot today on a lake that was still frozen over, shooting pics of the snow covered marshes, walking in foot deep snow trenches. I deliberately chose two of my heaviest perfumes to wear for the chilly weather! But I did come home and spritz myself with "Sensuous Nude" for a breath of summer...I really want to enjoy my winter fragrances before spring kicks in tho.

...The old Obsession? Omg...better spray a little of that stuff....  I'm jealous!I really did luck-out this past week-end. All that stuff was marked down to clearance. I don't usually find so much like that in one fell swoop. They were all onesies sitting on the shelves. I'm still waiting for one vintage to come in tho.

The functional no-nos of perfume bottles
by Sorceress | Perfumes & Brands
...Oh this is such a perplexing problem. Some of my bottles are very, very difficult to hold in my hand. I wind up balancing them on my knee, my hand fully supporting the back, wrist against the bottom, finger on the sprayer, and certainly hoping the nozzle doesn't twist another way and hoping it does goes in the direction I want it to spray. I make sure my pets are out of the way so they don't get sprayed by accident, either. And that's just spraying it on my arm. If I want any to go on my body, I wind up transferring it from my arm usually. The bottles may look pretty, but they're a huge pain in the *ss.I think the most aggravating problem I've had is the sprayer that doesn't mist but shoots a straight line of perfume like a water gun. And it doesn't do it all the time, so you can't say the sprayer is defective, either. Haven't figured that one out.I've read about the syringes for extraction and considered doing that instead of spraying into my own little vials, too. I've sprayed some perfumes thru funnels into vials and that hasn't been too bad. What we go through. I guess it's kind of funny, when you think about it.

...I find hand sanitizer gels work really well for especially stinky perfumes. Two really good applications followed by a good soapy wash always gets rid of the worst offenders.

Adaption, aka Olfactory Fatigue
by Sorceress | Perfumes & Brands
...Yes, thank you for directing us to the link, Pipette. So interesting to read what our body does to protect itself from supposed damage. And then we go ahead and spray more. In the translation, I was trying to fully understand. Are we hurting ourselves more when we keep spraying because we can no longer smell but want to smell the frag? Say we are at home, and it doesn't matter, so we spray a lot. What does anyone think?
