Scent of the Day
by Seatonica | Perfumes & Brands
...I'm wearing an attar my friend bought back from Dubai. Have no idea what it is called, or who produced it, but it smells of francincense and roses. Love it.

Parfumo/Fragrantica
by Seatonica | Parfumo Community
...Strikes me that while members here are quiet on the forum they are busy writing reviews. Those reviews are important in bringing Parfumo substance and credibility. The forum will grow over time.Currently a lot of traffic on the Fragrantica board is generated by hit and run sexy scent posters and/or people posting images, youtube clips etc. It's easy to do the latter over there because all you have to do is copy and paste. Wish it were that simple here :(The other thing I would say is that many threads on F are kicked along by exchanges between two or three people. The recent thread re changes in Royal Mail policy had over 100 postings on F, and far fewer here - but most of the F posts had little substance and were really just bantering. That's F in a nutshell - more and more about social exchange and less and less about perfume. IMHO it's when the social function takes precedence that cliques and bullies emerge and things go pear-shaped. For me so far Parfumo has the balance right, it's just that the community is small right now :)

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
by Seatonica | Parfumo Community
...Silverfire:Wow. I never noticed this topic until Cryptic had posted to it. I'm a former Fragrantica user too. My experience is rather typical for me -- I never could figure out what proper etiquette was (rules were never enforced except when they were), so I just had fun. Too late, I found out that the admins didn't like fun. I also tried to help, volunteering in public, and in private multiple times, only to be ignored, and then personally attacked by an admin. After he threatened to ban me from the site, I went looking for other fragrance sites and found Parfumo. I rarely think about the site anymore -- too much angst involved.I'm also glad to find you here SF and amazed by your experience at the other place - though perhaps I shouldn't be

Shopping on ebay - any advice
by Seatonica | Perfumes & Brands
...Actually I was thinking of some of the hysterical posts I've read on Fragrantica! I'm all for the balanced view :)Unlike the States in Australia you can't buy vintage perfume in thrift or charity stores. I've hardly ever seen it in antique shops and never at auction (though I expect it does come up at house/garage sales, just never the ones I attend) So by default ebay becomes a major hunting ground in these parts. I'm not saying it's risk free but I am saying that for me ebay is a great place to shop.

Shopping on ebay - any advice
by Seatonica | Perfumes & Brands
...Where would the serious collector be without ebay? I buy used fragrances and vintages all the time on ebay. I've picked up some wonderful stuff for very little money and so far have never had a problem. It is however wise to know what you're purchasing, so always do your homework first as others have suggested.Don't swallow the line that all ebay perfume sellers and their wares are dodgy. That's just hysteria talking. But do stay away from very popular, highly sought after or high-end perfumes going for a song - especially Chanel. As everyone here will tell you, you can bet your life that a very cheap 100ml bottle of Chanel is a fake Chanel.

Vintage Thrills
by Seatonica | Perfumes & Brands
...Hats off to you DinD - what a fantastic haul! Wow!I'm kicking myself for just missing out on a bottle of original Zen the other night :x I'm curious about Imprevu - any thoughts?Managed to get myself some vintage Safari It's sweeter than I expected and on me much more yellow aldehyde than green. Think it will work better in cooler weather, so I'm putting it away until then. When I tested Nitchevo again after a zillion years it reminded me of Chanel No. 5 - a poor girl's Chanel No. 5 :P

Miniatures: do they smell as good as the larger bottles?
by Seatonica | Perfume Discussions
...I think minis give a good indication of a perfume. The minatures I own are predominantly vintage. I buy them out of curiosity, for reference purposes and/or because I might not be able to find a FB. Or one that I that I can afford at any rate. So I'm building a little archive, and because I buy minatures for the purpose of keeping and not really wearing I suppose I'm a "collector" of sorts. You do have to take into consideraion that they might have been used for display purposes and their condition sufferred as a consequence. Many of the older ones fall into the category of travel souvenirs and might have been treated as keepsakes rather than items of display. One thing I have noticed about vintage minis is that while the perfume smells wonderful in the bottle it may vanish on the skin. I have a Fidji and an original Bandit where sadly this is the case. I have also been puzzled by the fact that eBay and sites like it treat mins as collectables. Presumably they do this on the basis that they think minis primarily appeal to perfume bottle collectors, who they no doubt equate with the same sort of people who collect and display those little liquor bottles.I'm not into display. In fact one of the most horrifying things I have ever seen on ebay was a large collection of mins, some wonderful and rare perfumes among them, the contents of which had been adultereted with dies to make them display better! WTF

Adopting a kitten or 2
by Seatonica | Off Topic
...For some reason I have it in my head that cats respond to two syllable names. So that's what I generally go with, although anyone with a cat will tell you cats choose their own names. In reality, all my cats end up with multiple names. My youngest Burmese is officially named Coco but is invariably called Cokey. When she's not called Cokey she's called Minna, Meema or Coquette and so it goes. Ridiculous I know.Get two kitties if you can.
