How many discontinued perfumes do you own?

...I just counted 33, but I think that there are more, because some of the more obscure items, such as the Le Labo special edition Anthropologie perfumes, appear to be discontinued, though they have not been identified as such. They were launched for such a short period of time!

Bois d'Arménie - tilted?

...Well, I'm happy for you, Apicius. Believe me, the plummet in quality of the women's line (consider, for example, the Aqua Allegorias, which went from beautiful, simply natural creations to vat-produced chemical soup), is a cause only for lamentation. The reformulations are at best mediocre, and the Shalimar flankers?Guerlain has fallen from grace in my eyes.No one is sorrier about this than I! :(

Bois d'Arménie - tilted?

...Cryptic:All I can say is, comparing a vintage Guerlain to a contemporary sample made a believer out of me.A believer in ... the death of Guerlain?

Bois d'Arménie - tilted?

...This is also a good example of why I am a skeptic about vintage perfumes. What have they been through? How much have they fallen apart or degraded? Who is to say? :?

Today I was wearing "Vetiver Velours", which might be my favorite of the set..So, yes, I guess it's true: I like this house a lot!!! :D

The animalic bad girls

...DutchSniffer:Can't speak for them yet as I only tested a few, but bought a sample pack of 'skanky' fragrances, containing- CB I Hate Perfume : CBMusk - Guerlain: Jicky (already tested it.. nah!)- Jean Desprez: Bal à Versailles (I believe it)- Miller Harris: l'Air de Rien- Montale: Aoud Cuir d'Arabie- Narciso Rodriguez: Musc for Her EDP intense- Nasomatto: Narcotic Venus- Penhaligon : Amaranthine (nah!)- Rochas: Femme - SL: Musc Koublai Khan- The Party: The party in Manhattan- Worth : CourtesanSeriously? "Amaranthine" included in a skank pack? Huh. :? And they must be talking about vintage "Jicky", not the spice cake in a barbershop reformulation. :P

Samples from Houses - best experience

...Franfan20:I forgot to mention JUL et MAD - they were so nice and supportive and really liked to have early opinions on the scents, so that's a good experience as well.Antonio & Giovanni from Blood Concept are also quite nice fellas.-----More not good ones:Union Fragrances wanted to send me something, but they never shipped and don't reply anymore? I just don't get it...It seems as though a lot of fly-by-night mom-and-pop "everyone's a creative director" niche houses are popping up. Not only launches and flankers, but also niche houses have gone viral! So I'm waiting until 2014 before I look into any of the survivors.

Which Fragrance Evokes the Most Memories for You and Why?

...Girasole:Chanel 19 I fell in love with it when I was 12, bought it from my first salary at the age of 15 or 16 and used it for 18 years. It was just so me. I wouldn't hear of any other perfume. And then one day, it was over.Wow: 18 years! That's a long-term affair!

Which Fragrance Evokes the Most Memories for You and Why?

...I wore Oscar de la Renta "Oscar" always and exclusively as an undergraduate, so even the tiniest waft of it today evokes a rush of memories from college days!

Shopping on ebay - any advice

...I think that it may all come down to one's faith in humanity. And one's propensity for skepticism.I happen to have little of the former and a lot of the latter...I am so skeptical in fact that I don't even believe in "vintage hunting":http://salondeparfum-sherapop.blogspot.com/2012/02/question-of-vintage.html

Shopping on ebay - any advice

...Cryptic:I wish you luck, first of all, because eBay can be treacherous. You're probably safest if you bid on things that are obscure, because the popular fragrances are the ones that are usually faked. You should probably avoid Chanel and Dior entirely as those houses are most frequently copied. Also Creed, which may be the most frequently faked and fobbed of them all! :(

Shopping on ebay - any advice

...To be honest, my advice is: avoid ebay! I think of it in this way: if I were a shyster attempting to fob off bad perfume, dilute decants and fakes, where would I ply my trade? The answer, of course: EBAY!

Samples from Houses - best experience

...Greysolon:Sherapop:I recently ordered that sample set from Divine, also on the recommendation of Apicius. It is a fantastic value, and the presentation is so sleek. It also arrived in very little time...I wish that all houses would wake up to the reality that gray market decanters are literally living off of perfumers' industry. It seems to me that everyone (well, except for gray market (= unlicensed) decanters) would be better off if all houses offered sample sets à la Ineke and Divine! 8)My wife and I just received our sample package from Divine today. I try to avoid using teen age text message abbreviations but......O-M-G!If you visit the photo album on my page you can see for yourself how beautiful the package is. Unwrapping it was like unfolding a work of origami. Not to mention a hand written note, a beautiful descriptive booklet and 12 samples of perfume. Stunning!Christmas in January--Hurrah! :D

The end of a love affair-Scents that have lost their magic ?

...Seatonica:Calvin Klein Escape - I was madly in love with this for years but now the thrill is gone.Something makes me suspect that "Escape" and "Eternity" contain fat-soluble ingredients, and my body cannot take either one of them anymore... :x

FiFi Indie Award nominees

...Dulcemio:And I wonder how many of these worthy nominations DOESN'T smell like anything else we've all smelled before. I bet not many, if any. From my extensive sampling thus far, I find current perfumery to be quite derivative. I guess that's why so many of mine are oldies but goodies.+1I'm on a mission to review everything already in my possession before acquiring anything new--hoping that the niche bubble pops by 2014!
