let's talk about Dior

...Let's use this thread to discuss any and all Dior subjects!Overrated?I'd like to start the discussion by asking you whether Dior fragrances are overrated or overpriced. I can think of two reasons why that is the case. Firstly, they reformulate/simplify their classics and still have the balls to sell it for prices like € 100. Example "Diorella", When I smelled the current version, I liked it but I smelled only two olfactory notes and no rich complexity. Secondly, they seem to heavily rely on new aromachemicals. To put it bluntly: they simply put a new chemical in a bottle, without making a real composition of notes like traditional perfumes. Example: "Higher"What do you think about Dior? Please also mention your favourite Dior fragrance. (mine is "Diorissimo")

Neela Vermeire Créations

...Still on a flower trip eh Pipette? :) It looks like it's chockful of good ingredients, and Neila Vermeire's fragrances all get good ratings. (On the other hand it looks too feminine and too expensive - for me at least)Which notes do you hope will be the dominant notes? It's funny how we can get all excited about new perfumes without any reviews or ratings :)Personally I have that with Hermès' new "Le Jardin de Monsieur Li". I can't wait to smell it!! Feel free to talk about that one, or speculate, in the Hermès thread.

Suggestions: fragrances with berries for men?

...The past years, quite a few perfumes with berries have been launched: "Sì (Eau de Parfum)", "Manifesto", "Enchanted Forest".I like black currant and blueberries. Blackberries too probably, but not raspberries or redcurrant/red berries.Do you have any suggestions for fragrances with berries for men? Or unisex?(if you have to mention a really good female fragrance, go ahead :) )

Pondering 1990's men's fragrances

...After doing some fragrance browsing, I think you're right, Apicius. Aromatic fragrances/fougères went pretty much extinct. (not counting tobacco fragrances). Things like Rive Gauche pour Homme (2003) are an exception. Thanks for pointing me to Globe, I didn't know it.And I agree about Allure pour Homme. It (and the flankers) are so middle of the road that it has become boring.

Pondering 1990's men's fragrances

...Let's use this thread to discuss 1990's men's fragrances - whatever you want to discuss. But I want to start with some thoughts about aromatic fragrances that survived into the 90's, even when it was the aquatic & unisex decade. When I started my fragrance journey some 4 years ago I was familiar with "Antaeus", the good old animalic stinker from Chanel and I also knew "Platinum Égoïste". After adjusting to the metallic geranium+lavender combo of Platinum Égoïste, I added it to my small collection and started to really appreciate it: It had traditional ingredients but was at the same time very fresh and versatile.I know that I'm going to ignore "Égoïste" (1990) here a bit, but bear with me.. So, knowing Antaeus and Platinum Égoïste, that got me thinking: How does one get from A to B ? There is almost nothing in common. I couldn't place Platinum Égoïste in the decade where Acqua di Giò and CK One reigned supreme. But today I bought "Herrera for Men" (1991), it's basically a fresh tobacco and clove fragrance. With that one as a transition I can start to see how evolving aromatic men's fragrances got to the point of Platinum Égoïste in 1993.What do you think about these things? Do you think aromatic fragrances got extinct in the late 1990's or were they really never gone? (I'm really having trouble thinking of one from the 2000's, at least one that isn't about lavender)Do you also like light aromatic fragrances or are are your favourite fragrances from that period rather the aquatics or unisex (ish) fragrances?

...Oh, that sucks :( I looked around for it a bit, but you're right it's really difficult to find.Maybe it's an idea to look at the Parfumo souk often, to see if it's offered as a 2nd hand bottle. It surprises me how many new bottles are added there every day.

Popular Men Fragrances from 1984 - 2014

...Nice list! Here are some suggestions:1997 - Hanae Mori HM shouldn't be on the list. "Dune pour Homme" is better.2005 - Dior Homme and L.I.D.G.E. are fine but you should also consider "Un Jardin sur le Nil". It's special.2011 - Gucci Guilty Pour Homme isn't great. Better options are:"Hommage à l'Homme" (=sophisticated, modern, all round)"Potion" (=interesting amber)"Avant Garde" (=delicious, modern beeswax + tobacco)

Were you ever just a second too late for a bargain?

...Let's talk about bargains, and especially ones that you didn't get.I've been looking for a bargain on a nice cedarwood scent. I found a bottle of "Malaita" for just € 9 and it has a good review. I've been keeping an eye on that bargain for a few days. But just now, as I wanted to order it. It's gone!! I was too late!Did you ever miss out on a bargain because someone snatched it right before your nose?
