...Cryptic:Twilight Zone is the one with that creepy/cool theme song, if I'm not mistaken. I'll have that one.Even though the Twilight Zone is over 50 years old it still has a place in popular American culture. For instance, if an American wants to joke about the mysterious or eerie nature of some bizarre happening they may very well sing the opening guitar melody from the show (listen below). Also, there are plot twist lines that have become part of my generation's cultural lexicon; the most famous being, "It's a cookbook!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-b5aW08ivHUOh yeah, my answer to Cryptic's Either/Or?Long road tripNo implied context...left or right?

...Apicius:I have never heard about Arm & Hammer. I guess it is available mainly in the US.Arm & Hammer Baking Soda started life as a leavening agent for baking. Over time it became recognized as an effective deodorizer and gentle abrasive. For that reason, the company expanded into personal care products like deodorant, toothpaste and saline solution.

What is your "Holy Grail" of perfume?
by Greysolon | Perfumes & Brands
...Cryptic: I'd love to hear more about your experience.Ditto here, Wild Gardener, I'm jealous. Please tell us more! As my fragrance collection grows I look for specific Holy Grail scents to fill gaps in my wardrobe, particularly when it comes to a particular occasion. I do have what I think of as my signature scent - "Fille en aiguilles" - but it's more a reflection of my personality and history rather than something I wear all the time.

Re: Men's grooming products
...LicoriceRain: I also use Arm & Hammer Essentials deodorant, and I think it's wonderful. The Unscented one has a citrus smell when applying, but it doesn't smell strong enough to cover any fragrance I am wearing. Exactly LR, even this scented variety (called Fresh) doesn't interfere with any fragrance I'm wearing. Still can't believe I'm talking about my deodorant...

Men's grooming products
by Greysolon | Off Topic
...I'm the last person who should be introducing this topic. However, I would bet my morning grooming routine is typical of many guys. It begins about 20 minutes before I have to leave for work: Bathe, shave, brush my teeth, towel dry my hair (run a brush through same), slap on deodorant and, finally, try to find a matching pair of socks in the dirty clothes hamper that don't smell like cumin. Anyway, there are a few grooming products that have become staples for my daily upkeep and I thought it would be great to have a thread where we can share similar discoveries. So, to start things off:-St. Ives Apricot Facial Scrub: I use this before shaving. Not only do I get a closer shave, it also keeps pores and follicles clear so I don't have a problem with ingrown whiskers. It purports to be natural -no parabens or sulfates- but the ingredients still read like a chemist's shopping list. The one natural ingredient that is a plus: the scrub medium is walnut shell powder as opposed to microbeads. Kiehl's Close-Shavers Squadron brushless shaving cream: I use the menthol cream but it's also available in aloe for sensitive skin. It comes packaged in a 5 oz. tube or 10 oz. jar. I never felt as though I really got a close shave until I used Keihl's.Arm & Hammer Essentials Deodorant: Really? Deodorant? Hey, I grew tired of every deodorant I tried giving out after about 6 hours. This really works and smells great. It's scented with natural herbal essences: coriander, rosemary and lavender. Geez, I never thought I'd open up to the world about my choice of deodorant...

Suggestions for a patchouli-centric fragrance
by Greysolon | Perfume Recommendations
...Just a few days ago I received a decant of a little known patchouli perfume from one of my favorite houses, Diptyque. "L'Autre" is one of their earliest creations (1973) although it's only available as a boutique exclusive. I've worn L'Autre just once and it was disappointing. Certainly not worth the price of airfare to Paris. The big problem is that the patchouli in L'Autre has a strong, rough camphorous component. That seems to match descriptions I've read of patchouli leaves rather than the unctuous fluidity of the essential oil found in most perfumes. Has anyone else tried L'Autre and, if so, am I missing something?

...No apologies necessary, Triffid! I can be a little thick as you're about to learn...Through a google search I learned "Norell" was Revlon's first fragrance. But when I checked the Parfumo database and found the brand Norell -which I'd never heard of- my immediate thought was that Revlon either sold the rights to the fragrance or, more likely, I was wrong. For me, assuming I'm wrong is always the safe bet! As for the other clues, this will show you how clueless I am. The Rolling Stones cover? I thought it must indicate the fragrance is an eau de toilette. Then, when you said the man in the first photo had something in common with the photo of Michelle Obama, I thought, "Well, maybe it's their rhyming names... you know, Michelle and Norell". Uh, yeah... duh! I'll be back with a puzzle at least as convoluted as my previous post, "scented syllables"

Suggestions for a patchouli-centric fragrance
by Greysolon | Perfume Recommendations
...Well, "Borneo 1834" turned out to be a hit. I especially enjoyed the incredibly looooooooong development. The patchouli is dry and stays as restrained as patchouli can be while remaining the dominant note. I'll take a bottle, please! I also enjoyed "Coromandel" too though, for my tastes, it requires a judicious finger on the trigger to keep its place. Nonetheless, I find it beautiful and wearable.Unfortunately, Triffid is right about my bad experience with "Voleurs de Roses"... ick... but I won't let that keep me from giving other rose and patchouli perfumes a try.Dulce is right to say that excluding sandalwood makes finding a patchouli fragrance difficult because the two are often paired. My sandalwood issues are simply a personal preference. When it's well blended and balanced to the overall fragrance, great, no problem. But if it's a particularly sharp variety of sandalwood and it asserts its dominance by sticking its pointy little head above the rest of the fragrance then it can become overwhelming. Excluding heavy musks is problematic too because, like sandalwood, musk and patchouli are a traditional pairing. Unfortunately, my issue with heavy musks is more serious; they often make me physically ill. But it's not the smell. Like patchouli, I love the smell of musk on others and it doesn't bother me. However, if I use a perfume containing heavy musk on my own skin the physical reaction can be really unpleasant. This leads me to believe there is an issue with transdermal absorption. I don't think I've ever had a problem with clean/white musks. Thanks for all the information and suggestions.
