What perfume have you bought recently?
...Tnahowru:Omni:My only purchase this month (my halo is glowing) was L'esprit Habanita. I won a sample pack of Impromptu by Roxana Illuminated Perfumes and have been giving that a whirlWow! Omni, how did you win?It was a giveaway on Australian Perfume Junkies site, a simple draw. There are three samples, an EDT, an EDP and a tiny pot of solid perfume. Review in the pipeline. I have moved house recently and everything is upside down. Do subscribe to Australian Perfume Junkies, lots of fun

Sense of Smell and Skin Chemistry - figment and myth?
...I haven't read the links yet but it seems until we understand how we process smells, i.e. the science, that this subject is wide open. There will be trolls and there will be genuine interest. Here's something interesting: my daughter can only use white towels because she turns every coloured towel into a blotched discolouration, not make up, just her skin. She wears Chanel perfumes as if they had a 500 year half life but on me, nah, gone.

Trying Harder
...I do find it entertaining that Setge Lutens, Jo Malone and Jean Claude Ellena advocate the layering of their fragrances and that JCE provided layering advice for readers of Elle magazine. I certainly haven't tried any of my own except the Yardley Iris which happened by accident when I forgot what I was wearing. It's all grist for the perfume mill.

Trying Harder
...Triffid:Well, I wear "big" perfumes to walk the dog, as does Mr Triffid. The dog sniffs the telegraph poles and we humans sniff our perfume cloud (also keeps our noses distracted from the contents of the loaded doggy doo bag we're carrying). We're a toxic couple in enclosed spaces but add a stiff breeze and a street-length personal space and we're good to go!My Tea Rose has arrived so I might try layering it with the Aromatics Elixir tonight. I suspect it will end up smelling like JHAG Vengeance Extreme.Oh Triffid, you are gorgeous, I love the mental picture of Mr and Mrs Triffid dispatching fragrant goodwill to all men, (nankind) even if they're on the moon, what beautiful clear skies you must enjoy, sillage all the way to the space station. You go, girl!

Trying Harder
Re: Trying Harder
...Bibitry:Omni:Is it me? Have they changed? I recently purchased L'Heure Bleu in an EDT. Previously I had only attempted the EDP and we didn't get along. L'Heure Bleu is supposed to be Apres L'Ondee's older sister but I kept thinking I'd used Mitsouko instead. Has my brain found the Guerlainade and amplified it? Funnily enough I'm enjoying it more. Mona Di Orio (rest in peace) gave her heart to L'Heure Bleu. After she died I decided I would try harder. Have you tried harder to like something and has anyone got any clues as to why I smell Mitsouko in L'Heure Bleu?I smell Mitsouko in L'Heure bleue. To my nose and brain they share a thick, waxy quality, strongest i Mitsy, where it becomes almost rubber-like. On my skin, that is. Maybe this is the Guerlinade? I find no traces of thickness, wax or rubber in L'Instant and Idylle though. Isn't there Guerlinade in all of Guerlain's fragrances? The one out of these I simply cannot wear is Mitsy. Big disappointment, because I love chypres and would very much like to wear the Icon.I wore Mitsouko last night. I am leaving shortly to watch my granddaughter play netball. I'll wear LHB for an outing in the fresh air and see how I'm getting on with it. Fresh air can change our perceptions, helping us get to the heart notes. Who goes beach walking wearing big classic fumes?

light florientals, please?
...I saw some Guerlain "Aqua Allegoria Flora Nymphea" on sale, apparently it's getting discontinued. I like it. It's a bit oriental-ish because of the honey, and it also has orange blossom.[/quotI bought it on that one day special and it's fallen bit flat for me. I will review it at some stage. There are days when I think I'll buy ten bottles of Yardley Iris, unsubscribe from perfume blogs, stop admiring bottles and stop sniffin' the breeze. Okay, not going to happen, right but I love that simple, humble scent of Yardley Iris

11 Iconic Perfumes of the 80s
...Sorceress:Some of these surprised me. Jovan's Musk I would swear was earlier than the '80's, but I guess not. I don't think Debbie Gibson's Electric Youth bears iconic status at all. Love's Baby Soft has stood the test of time, so I'll agree with that one. Drakkar Noir has always been a favorite of mine and always will be.I'll add to the list Paloma Picasso, Niki de Saint Phalle, Coco and Samsara. Now those are truly iconic perfumes.Houbigant musk was around in the late sixties, early seventies. Jovan's white musk became popular then. We all wore it at some stage

Frags for tropical climates?
...I like Kelly Caleche EDT but it does have to be reapplied as it tracks similarly to Rose Essentialle for staying power, which I also have. Having said that you trade the tobacco/tea of Rose Essy for a soft suede handshake in Kelly, and I gave the ciggies away thirty years ago, so I go with Kells

...Dulcemio:Tnahowru:If a perfume has only negative reviews, and I personally love the perfume, I must add my review. Because, if I like it then someone else might, in stead of them only seeing negative reviews. Or vice-versa.Yes. I'm sure I've said this before, but opinions couldn't be more relative than with regard to fragrance. Subjectivity is King (or Queen). My best example being the contrast between my feeling about a perfume: "The heavens opened and angels sang" and someone else's: "stinky cow's breath." We were both reviewing Chanel No. 19.Which I adore so much I can't bring myself to review it. I think there's a lot of people who read but don't write reviews because they feel the relationship between them and their favourite scent is so personal

Do you dare to don "Exceptional"? Exceptional Because You Are - Exceptional
...Triffid:I have just placed an order with Fragrancenet for the first time. I am hoping to receive a complimentary 'Exceptional' sample. In fact, that sample was really the inducement.....Fnet is slow but reputable. Triffid, unless you have tried Exceptional there won't be a secret handshake or badge of honour. Hehe

...The perfume speaks to me, in the way that a film does, and this means I don't need someone elses approval to love. Having said that, there is a wealth of experience on Parfumo and other sites that might prevent a big mistake. When buying blind, as I so often have to when you live at the bottom of the world, reviews are a great guide. I don't know if anyone has seen 'Love is all you Need' with Trine Dyrholm and Pierce Brosnan but it has a beautiful sillage trail

...Dulcemio:Haha! Yeah, they didn't leave well enough alone, did they. :)The thing is, if you name a fragrance Frickin Awesome, it darn well better be, right? Overstatements can backfire.I can vouch for it being exceptionally difficult to wash off. Send to Keith Richards

Tragedy. When perfumes turn
...Epimedes:Danieq:I will say though, that I bought a vintage Vol de Nuit EdC and I'm not certain that it has it's original character at all anymore. That was an expensive mistake.I got an older bottle of Vol de Nuit EdT and it was a bitter disappointment for me as well. If only the new extrait wasn't so damn expensive...I asked for a spray of Diorissimo at a counter recently, and it was off. It's hard to tell an eighteen year old SA that when demonstration bottles go off it doesn't serve the seller or the customer

Hermès perfumes
...Danieq:I've not been that big a fan of the Hermes as a house. However, I absolutely adore the Vintage form of Eau d'Hermes. This is a flowery civet bomb and it's simply gorgeous. Reminds me a little of Jicky in the opening, but the drydown is a stunning white floral with the civet hanging on in the background. It is delicious. And hard to find. I stocked up recently when I found someone who still had a stash of the copper top bottles. Now I have some extra that I'll likely sell at some point. But if the chance to purchase left and I could wear only one perfume that is in my collection, I could be happy with this one.I am considering a FB of Hiris as the other one which I liked, but I'm not sure I get along well enough with it's green side.Danieq, read the perfume shrine excerpt on cheap thrills and decide whether you could make do with Yardley Iris. I'm a Hermes fan but Hiris is too spendy for me at its newly inflated prices. It makes a lovely base for a puff of something more expensive on top, my mix is Pierre de Lune and Y Iris
