Politics and Perfume ...
by PBullFriend | Off Topic
...Yeah, it does seem really strange to me considering that, by now, Duchaufour must have as much money as God. How could he not think that his fans would be concerned about this, too?

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
by PBullFriend | Parfumo Community
...Well, I'm glad that the F-site exists. I met a lot of nice folks there, many of whom are now here. And I'm grateful for their database, which is pretty thorough.I don't want to look down on someone for liking V. Secret, etc. If V. Secret had been around when I was a teen, I might have liked it a lot! Also, someone could look down on me because much of what I have/like is mass-market. But I do very much like the feature that allows me to comment on a review & the reviewer to comment back. The main problem with the F-site, to me, was the intolerance of different lifestyles expressed by so many members and the fact that the admins seemed to support that. I care just as much about whether men are wearing women's fragrances (and vice-versa) as I do about what people are doing in the privacy of their homes with consenting adults. (Which is to say... NOT AT ALL.) I'm very grateful to Apicius and Don VanVliet and the many other great folks who have gotten this site going and kindly provided an English version for those of us who can't say anything intelligent in German.(/rant!)

Scent of the Day
by PBullFriend | Perfumes & Brands
...I've been drifting through the land of herbs and green today. First, I sprayed myself with the body oil spray of Lauren, then a dab of Yves Rocher Soleil Bleu. Then, a few hours later, Hermes Eau d'Orange Verte. It's nasty hot out, so I am grateful to smell like a bundle of fresh herbs! 8)

...Have you tried Bulgari Black? I don't know how it so deliciously combines that leather/rubber thing with that vanilla/cuddly thing, but it does!

sherapop appreciation thread
by PBullFriend | Parfumo Community
...Thanks for starting this, aromi! I was a parfumista for a while before "meeting" Sherapop, but I surely do not have her level of sophistication.Even when we don't agree, I greatly enjoy her style and wit, as well as her kindness to those of us who aren't up to her level! :D

Robbie VanGogh - Perfume and Music Hemp & Leather - Robbie VanGogh
by PBullFriend | Perfumes & Brands
...The Electric Fetus (which is in my metro, Minneapolis-St. Paul) ran out of his scents, so I emailed him & he kindly sent me a sample of Hemp & Leather. It is beautiful & very, very complex. I would love to smell this on a man! I am going to ask them to get more of his products so people can try them. Judging from the many people who love Parfumerie Generale Coze, which contains cannabis oil, I'm thinking a lot of folks would love H&L. I hope he can get a wider audience soon.

Less likely to buy discontinued fragrances? G-man (Eau de Cologne) - Gainsboro / Gainsborough
by PBullFriend | Perfumes & Brands
...I tend to agree with Barolo on this one. If I don't think something is available somewhere (eBay, discounters), then I usually avoid it for fear of having my heart broken. (Yes, I know. I'm such a delicate flower! )I also am likely not to try a scent that goes for $200 and up per bottle. At that price, I am unlikely to find even a decant I can afford, and there are relatively few parfumistas/os who might be willing to trade me one.Even if I had more money, there's something about $200/bottle that seems like the very far end of my extravagance.

International Cuisine
by PBullFriend | Off Topic
...In my area, there are a lot of recent Southeast Asian(Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam), Mexican, and Ethiopian immigrants. So those are the countries best represented in great restaurants here.I really like any cuisine that isn't too heavy on the animal products - which is most of them, if you know where to look. Some of the dishes for which German food is best known contain meat, but meine mutti und meine grossmutter used to cook some delicious things that don't (gruenkernsuppe, spaetzle, amazing baked goods). The only place where I haven't found something to admire in the cuisine is Belize. I bought a Belizean cookbook to take home, thinking that I must have missed out on something. I couldn't find anything in the cookbook that I wanted to cook. Lots of chicken and fish, hardly any spices.

Which masculine scents can be worn by a woman?
by PBullFriend | Perfumes & Brands
...I got Chanel Egoiste when R. White died (he was a parfumisto who befriended lots of us on Fragrantica). It was the last scent he listed himself as wearing. I feel like I'm honoring him when I wear it, and it smells good on me!One of my favorites - Fendi Fendi - is always listed as being for women, but it's in the style of some men's scents of the era, such as Aramis 900.I like a lot of smoky scents. Cumming is listed as for men, but Lonestar Memories is listed as unisex. No idea why, but I love them both.So - sometimes I smell like a flower, other times like wood, sometimes spices, sometimes leather, sometimes citrus fruit, sometimes grasses... We're so fortunate to have these choices!

Signature Scent - still up to date?
by PBullFriend | Perfumes & Brands
...Ha! I was thinking exactly like Dannyboy - the perfume would have been reformulated by then!I used to have "signature scents" when I was in high school & college & couldn't afford more than one bottle of perfume at a time. It really surprises me what strong ones I chose (Cachet in high school; L'Air du Temps in college, for instance) - if I had to have a signature now, it would more likely be something like Encre Noire (pour homme) or Putman Preparation Parfumee - an austere, calming, dark gray sort of smell. But then again, I don't wear such tight jeans any more, either! I think there will always people who value comfort and consistency highly and who therefore only have one or two scents. I'm grateful for the internet, though, which has allowed me to be the scent dilettante I am!
