What are your favorite Caron scents?
by Exciter76 | Perfumes & Brands
Re: What are your favorite Caron scents?
...SilverStache:Last year, it was found out that they were discontinuing many perfumes from this illustrious house such as Nuit de Noel, Farnesiana, Tabac Blond, Poivre, etc... literally the whole line of classics. Very disconcerting knowledge to say the least....Well, please let us know what are you favorites! That's absolutely heartbreaking! I thought I read somewhere that William Fraysse, house perfumer Richard Fraysse's son, was bringing back the classics. Then again, that might be wishful thinking on my part.My favorites: · "Violette Précieuse"· "Pour Un Homme de Caron"· "Aimez-Moi", "Bellodgia"· "Pour Une Femme de Caron"· "Muguet du Bonheur"· "Parfum Sacré"· "Nocturnes"

Smell-alike Fossil 1954 Women
by Exciter76 | Perfume Recommendations
...I went over to the page for "Fossil 1954 for Women" and a user claims that "Dior Addict Eau Fraîche (2014)" smells similar. (Btw, I just read your review for Fossil 1954--it sounds lovely and it's shameful it was discontinued.) I'm sorry I'm not familiar with this particular scent but I hope that helps in your search! :)

Trip abroad what would you bring with you?
by Exciter76 | Perfume Recommendations
...First tip: get traveling atomizers or some kind of decanter made for traveling. (I'm probably telling you something you already know but I've known people who've lost precious scents while traveling, so...)Hmm, my go-to scents when I'm feeling tropical are usually from Comptoir Sud Pacifique. My particular favorites are "Aloha Tiaré (Eau de Toilette)", "Fleurs des Caraïbes", and "Vanille Coco". The brand is reasonably priced and very strong performers on my skin.

Soothing Lavender Perfume (Soapy or Refined)
..."Pour Un Homme de Caron (Eau de Toilette)" is one of the best lavender scents on the market. It's so soothing and unobtrusive. It's great alone or layered too. I find it to be unisex but very versatile.

Forest and Melancholia scents
by Exciter76 | Perfume Recommendations
...I get this forest-like vibe from Clinique's Wrappings. I have a strong love/hate relationship with oakmoss and, because of this, I had to get rid of my bottle. It's very mossy and coniferous. It is released only during the holiday season, which means it might be available now.Another forest scent to consider is The Vagabond Prince's Enchanted Forest. It's not necessarily mossy but it is very dark with strong coniferous elements and forest berries. Don't be scared off by the berries; it's not a gourmand in any way. It's phenomenal.

Remembering M. Oscar de la Renta
by Exciter76 | Perfumes & Brands
...I love L'Heure Bleue so much! I'll try to get a sample of Oscar and see it through a forty-three-year-old's filter. Sixteen-year-old me wasn't quite as refined. :D

Remembering M. Oscar de la Renta
by Exciter76 | Perfumes & Brands
...My mom had a bottle of his eponymous fragrance, given to her as a birthday present. She hated it and promptly passed it over to me. I wasn't crazy about it but I was in love with the bottle. I wore it for about six months before I decided I could not stomach it any longer. I found it too sweet and too powdery. Unfortunately, that first experience has colored my view of the entire perfume house. I haven't smelled it since but I'd be curious if my opinion has changed.

Do you keep backups?
by Exciter76 | Perfumes & Brands
Re: The what and the why
...Oriane:Exciter76:I figured I asked a lot of questions so I tried to hold back. But you answered some other questions I wanted to ask! I was curious as to why we keep backups and what pushed us to go ahead and get the backup....As for what pushed me to commit to a backup of something? Usually, it's the price. I met a perfume collector once who bought some beautiful vintage perfumes but then would never wear them because she felt she should save them. Save them for what? I do not think she herself knew why they should be saved. I say, if you buy something wonderful, use it and enjoy it! Life is short babies! Enjoy every moment of it that you can, and do not deprive yourself of what you worked hard to buy. You might die tomorrow, and then it will be too late. Use your items instead of saving them because scavengers will only come in later and either use the items themselves or sell the items for as much money as they can, and you never bought the items so that they could end up benefiting someone you barely knew or never knew at all, did you? Give yourself permission to use and to enjoy using the things you acquire. Personally, I think there can be a lot of beauty in an old, partially or fully used bottle of perfume that shows its age and has an history. That is the Wabi Sabi aesthetic, and it can be very beautiful and poignant. Sorry if I have gone off topic at all, but this is where questions about back up bottles always leads me. :)You bring up excellent points. Another reason I buy backups is because I use what I have so the threat of running out is real. I don't save anything for special occasions; I have no qualms wearing a vintage or a niche to do mundane tasks. You're right, life's too short to reserve the good stuff or speak the right words for the right time.
