The end of a love affair-Scents that have lost their magic ?

...Yo, people *were* trying to have a discussion until it devolved into a shouting match over a layperson term for a common fragrance experience, and I am really really sorry I even asked about it on a topic that was about something else entirely. I have no idea what *you* think happened, but this is the kind of thing that stifles discussion rather than encourages it. Now, let's move on.

Best/worst/weirdest new perfumes of 2013?

...I didn't see a thread on this yet so I thought I'd make one! I am still very new to perfume and always love reading about other people's favourites. So please share, what have been your favourite new perfume releases of 2013? What have been the worst, most underwhelming, weirdest, most interesting etc? (And why, if you can be bothered to analyze :))

The end of a love affair-Scents that have lost their magic ?

...Cruella:Cryptic:Change of diet, medication and hormonal fluctuations all can have an impact on skin chemistry. Hope the issue resolves itself soon so you can go back to enjoying your favorites.Skin chemistry is an urban myth. How so? I am asking in earnest since I can only assume it is the unique chemistry of one's skin that can turn silver black on some people while it stays bright on others. As an example.

V / Visa (Eau de Parfum) - Robert Piguet

Robert Piguet reformulations

...Not that it isn't interesting to read different takes on the general pressure for brands and houses to reformulate, but I wasn't looking to start yet another topic on that subject seeing as there already is an active, recent one for that purpose. I was merely curious about other people's experiences on a few Piguet reformulations vs. the originals, seeing as the vintage formulas are way out of my reach but someone somewhere could maybe have smelled them. I repeat that there is another topic for discussing IFRA and the evils of reformulation.

Hermès perfumes

...I'm sure Christine Nagel is more than fit for the job! As for Hermès' current selection, where should I start? Apart from "Eau des Merveilles" which I didn't like, they are foreign ground for me.

V / Visa (Eau de Parfum) - Robert Piguet

Robert Piguet reformulations

...Cruella:Well I haven't smelled those but I have smelled vintage Fracas and Futur and they are literally the same smell now as it was in the 40's and 60's respectively. ...I think they are doing a great job really, my only problem is that they released 13 new scents in one year. I don't see a point in doing that, but I don't wear them anyway, the important thing is that their classics are perfectly preserved. That is good to hear! I've read that Visa would not have survived reformulation quite as well, though. I wish I could like Bandit but on my skin it's just poisonous green florals and pungent musk and nothing else gets through, alas.

V / Visa (Eau de Parfum) - Robert Piguet

Robert Piguet reformulations

...Is there anyone here who is familiar with vintage Piguets and could weigh in on the recent reformulations of Bandit and Visa? I have been sniffing Visa today and while it's okay and inoffensive, I do wonder what it was like originally.

Tauer - new Explorer 15ml sample sets

...Triffid:I now have my Explorer set, though not from the giveaway Pipette mentions. The presentation is fabulous - the larger slider tin looks both modern yet retro and delivery took just a few days via Fedex. Two free samples were also included - bonus!Ooohh sounds fantastic! Which ones did you order btw? Any chance of a few reviews? ;)I got a 15ml bottle of "Une Rose Vermeille" and wonder if I'm going to like it... Nevertheless I'm curious, but feeling too sensitive to smells right now to try it. I sampled a few absolutely horrible perfumes a few hours ago and I still feel a bit ill for it.

Good-smelling cheapies are hard to find

...Cruella:I don't think Elizabeth Taylor perfumes should be considered cheapies, at least not the first three she released, they all cost over 160 dollars an ounce and debuted at the most high of the high end stores. Specially White Diamonds which cost 200 dollars an ounce upon release.I had no idea  they float around eBay for 10-20 USD for a 100ml bottle so something has clearly changed.

My Dilemma - stock up on frags for office wear?

...I think your question contains the answer. If you have office-appropriate fragrances in your collection, just wear them. If you need new fragrances for office, buy them! I trust that your living situation will change at some point (few of us stay put for all eternity) and you will get the chance to wear your heavier favourites without a care. Better be armed with a comprehensive perfume wardrobe because you never know what the future will bring :)
