Which Caron Pour un Homme Pour Un Homme de Caron (1934) (Eau de Toilette) - Caron
by Briarthorn | Perfumes & Brands
...I was looking at buying this finally. So many great reviews here for it I thought, why not?I see two bottle and package types. One is more of a green color band on the box with a silver lid on the bottle. The other is more of a Khaki stripe on the box with a black lid. Which should I get? Is one generally preferred over the other? I am assuming they are different formulations.

Beware Vendors associated with JnBproducts or J&B produc
by Briarthorn | Perfumes & Brands
...This vendor (JnBproducts or J&B products) sold me a fake Tom Ford Velvet Orchid. The perfume shipped from Turkey but to get refunded I am to return it to an address in Illinois. Which is kinda good because now that it's staying in the country I'm going to report it to some of my customs buddies so they can put this company on their watch list. Not sure how long it will take for something to happen. FYI :)

Weekly scent Discussion #7: Which Nose creates for you?
by Briarthorn | Perfumes & Brands
...There are a couple of perfumers whose creations always seem to "work" on me. Everything they do just smells fantastic on my skin and I know if I buy something they were instrumental in creating, it's gonna be a home run. The one perfumer that really comes to mind for me is Francis Kurkdijan. If you look at my wardrobe you'll see many of the different creations he's had a hand in. I was AMAZED when I looked at all the different things he's worked on for the first time and noticed how many were scents I really adored and already owned. I was collecting his stuff without even realizing it. Bebe, Elizabeth Arden Green Tea, Demeter Holy water are all some cheapies that worked for me, to my surprise. I had No idea he was behind them. Many of my favorites he also had a hand in: Carven Le Parfum, APOM Pour Femme, Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile, Guerlain Rose Barbare, Yves Rocher Creasier en Fleurs, Lady Vengence, etc...I haven't done the math, but I strongly suspect if you tally up the different noses represented in my wardrobe he would been in the top running for the largest percentage of creations in my love bin.So whose nose just creates magic specifically for you?

A Mislead Friendly Gesture?
by Briarthorn | Perfumes & Brands
...Bottle arrived yesterday. It's definately a fake. It's a good fake. If I didn't already have Velvet Orchid I might not have known. Now I just need to figure out how to get my friend his money back.

A Mislead Friendly Gesture?
by Briarthorn | Perfumes & Brands
...My friend just informed me that he bought this for me. I'm a bit dubious. I suspect it's a fake. Why? Well:1. It's coming from Turkey and he seems to have a very large quantity of this for sale.2. He has one negative feedback stating a fake for this item (but that could be someone being mistaken or misguided).3. The color of the bottom label is white, I thought it should be clear. It is supposed to arrive soon so I can scrutinize it more. I'd feel terrible if my friend wasted almost $70 bucks on this. What do you guys think? Did he get Robbed?

Weekly Scent Discussion #6: Labels of Men vs Woman and you
by Briarthorn | Perfumes & Brands
...Insense:The best masculine for women? Please accept my suggestion: look at Dior's Eau Sauvage, wear it and become the most incredible sexy goddess in the night party!I will definitely look at getting my hands on this. thanks for the lead.Mill4r4, you are not alone in your love of Shalimar. That's the one woman's perfume I have heard many men admit to using. Sleuth, I can definitely see drawing the line at sugar bombs, pink rose and heady white florals. Perhaps it's because these scents tend to effectively cover up a persons natural scent instead of working with it. Hmm food for thought. I've noticed that vetiver can be very masculine on me when it's handled a certain way. Black Vetiver Cafe by Jo Malone comes to mind. If I had to choose just one scent out of my wardrobe that I could not live without, I would have to say Taste of Heaven. Not a women's scent but it smells wonderful on me.

Weekly Scent Discussion #6: Labels of Men vs Woman and you
by Briarthorn | Perfumes & Brands
...Pipette, What is it about the dry down that is too much? Is it specific notes? Or is it just how certain notes are handled?\I'm really curious as to what makes something feel inherently "man" vs "woman" when it comes to how we perceive scent. I've always kinda thought a scent on me smells feminine and the same scent on my hubby smells more masculine because our own personal scents mingle with it and gives it the man or woman vibe. I think I'm in the minority in this. But I'm not sure. Or perhaps it's just that certain notes and combination of notes or perhaps how certain notes are used are more of a determination in this. If that's the case then What notes are they? or how are they used to do this?

Weekly Scent Discussion #6: Labels of Men vs Woman and you
by Briarthorn | Perfumes & Brands
...I picked up a bottle of Elizabeth Passion for Men yesterday. I've decided I like wearing it more than the Woman's version. I started digging around and found other scents are also in my wardrobe and marketed as "for men" (Midnight in Paris, Light Blue Pour Homme, AE Live for him, Grey Flannel, Acqua di GiĆ² pour Homme, Halston Z-14, Baby Blue Jeans, Aqua Verde, Taste of Heaven). Now my wardrobe is mostly marketed towards women or Unisex but looking at the scents I've listed above there are many that I wouldn't have pegged for "men" as much as Unisex or in one case (Aqua Verde) for "women". So I'm trying to figure out what makes a scent "man" and "woman". What specific combinations of notes draws this line in the sand. I know that there are many men who sport the feminine fragrances of Shalimar, Black Orchid and many others. Where do you draw your line? Do you think this is just a marketing tool or are some scents inherently masculine and feminine? What combination of notes says one or the other to you? Would you be embarrassed to admit to wearing a "woman's" scent or would you sport it proudly?

What flowers are blooming where you live?
by Briarthorn | Off Topic
...Thanks for sharing Greysalon. I haven't noticed much blooming around here lately. However, there is an amazing and beautiful Jacaranda that is in full bloom a few blocks away. It's on my daily commute so I haven't sniffed it, but it is so beautiful to look at. And it makes the prettiest purple street corner where the flowers drop and blanket everything under it. Gorgeous. I'm not just saying that because purple is my favorite color... I've also seen the Golden trumpet trees, Tabebuia chrysotricha blooming. They are used in landscaping all over down here, mostly in parking lots and in a few yards. They are mostly yellow but I've noticed more of the pink variety this year and a few trees of the silver variety. The Orchid tree, Bauhinia variegata (I think the common name is Phanera varigata) is also starting to bloom. So pretty and delicate looking.I miss the Azaleas in the spring. They were all over Central, FL but I haven't seen any down here in south FL. It's probably too warm. I'm surprised there's no Oleander down here either, they should be blooming about now too I think.

Good-smelling cheapies are hard to find
by Briarthorn | Perfumes & Brands
...WolfM:+ "Rose of Bulgaria for Men"Everyone would say: "no way so inexpensive to be a good one", i know, I know! - (here in Bulgaria it costs 6 euros) :P Yeah, we have pretty much roses here :)And it will be in a mistake.I was in skeptical frame of mind, even cynical, I would say. But only before you give it a try.I can not describe it better than Coutureguru did it in his excellent review, and there is no point even trying.I'll just say "not everything is money, friends, at least on Beauty" - Worth it more than the price presupposes.I will definitely seek this one out! thank you for putting it on my radar.
