On Neapolitan Perfume - Layering
...Pipette:"Realm" is by itself a quiet perfume which can be spiced up - just a touch - with "Vepres Siciliennes".I'd agree that "Realm" is so very pretty by itself. I'd never have thought to layer it. Now that's another I'm going to think about matching with something else. I checked your review to imagine the perfume you matched it with. Interesting video, too. Good one, Pipette! As sometimes we're trying to be innovative in using our perfumes, maybe using the bottles up, perhaps not buying anymore, then layering them is another way to creatively use them and not get bored with what we have. It's almost like buying another perfume, in a sense...

On Neapolitan Perfume - Layering
...Hayven:Hot Couture is a complex perfume in itself to me, those layers must have been amaaazing.I wish "Hot Couture" was! I bought it because it's supposed to be so wonderful and it turns out all it is is raspberry on me. :( Not the usual raspberry, a different one than a synthetic, but still, it comes across quite linear. That's why I've been wanting to layer it somehow. I finally came up with a solution...

Celebrity perfumes: A thread
...Both "Roberto Cavalli" and "Truth Or Dare Naked" are pretty wonderful additions to my collection. They're very similar, albeit have their slight differences. Both are strong on the benzoin for me and last for hours. I think they're very unique for today's offerings. Naked is so sensual with its woody and musky tones, it offers a thick heady scent from Madonna. Hers is sweeter, while I found Cavalli to be more dry and have more of a bite.Everytime I wear "Halston" someone will compliment my perfume, but I'd wear it regardless. I adore it. It's the quintessential example to me of polar opposites in perfumery. It's sweet but not, warm but cold, mossy yet fresh.Any of Elizabeth Taylor's perfumes offer a huge bang for the buck. They're pretty amazing fumes. I don't reach for them often, but when I do, they last for hours and hours and offer a delicious blend of scents. Out of hers, I'd say "Passion", "Rare Pearls" and "Diamonds and Rubies" are my favorites.

On Neapolitan Perfume - Layering
...So I decided to have "Neapolitan Ice Cream" Perfume tonight. I read a review that had been posted this evening for "Extraordinary" , which I have and on me, has a wonderful chocolate flavor. So I sprayed some on and was enjoying it when I thought adding some vanilla to it might be good. Looking at my vanillas, I decided to add "Wonderstruck" . The chocolate and vanilla were smelling pretty good when I thought, why not go for Neopolitan? So I reached for my "Hot Couture Collection No.1" and I had Neapolitan ice cream. Perfect for 18 degree weather that had just had a snowstorm. I'm not really one for layering perfumes, but suddenly tonight something made me decide to do this extreme layering. Turned out pretty well.Anyone else have any weird concoctions? Or just fun layerings?

Are You The Only Perfumista In Your Family?
by Sorceress | Parfumo Community
...Interesting how perfumes can interest some, and not others, isn't it? Omnia, what a wonderful introduction to perfumes at such an early age!As far as the question with my daughter, since she has been a little one,(and I do mean little), she has "played" and had access to my collections that I was lucky enough to accumulate from work (vendors-gratis) and my own tastes. She just happens to enjoy two perfumes of her liking and that's it. Versus her Mom, who wants to explore all. But then again, in time, she may change and find an interest in perfumery, who knows?

Are You The Only Perfumista In Your Family?
by Sorceress | Parfumo Community
...So my daughter was visiting and I was showing her my collection. Her eyes roamed the bottles. I was attempting to find some that she might like so I could decant some for her. Bottle after bottle I'm opening, she's sniffing, and I know she's not really into perfumes as I am, but I'm attempting to find one that she might enjoy. My 2005 Miss Dior Cherie she tells me is "too strong". Forget the Chanels. Maybe Taylor Swift's Wanderlust, she likes the vanilla in that one. She sniffs Juicy Couture and says she remembers she thinks she likes one of those. Finally, I don't want to overload her, and she's not liking any, which is frustrating, but that's ok, she's entitled to her likes/dislikes. She really doesn't wear perfume, she says. She says she knows how much I love my "babies", and she will treasure them one day. We finally laughed about it, which is good, knowing that it's ok that we're not identical people.I've always loved perfumes, and began my journey with them when I began selling them. But no one else in my family was ever like I am in collecting them or seeking the ultimate bottle. Working around them just intrigued me so much, it lit a fire along with that first whiff of Shalimar at an early age.So here are my questions: Are you the only perfumista in your family? At what age did you become one? And did anyone influence you to become one?

Trip down memory lane : Perfumes you loved as a teen
by Sorceress | Perfumes & Brands
...At age seven, I first smelled Shalimar on my mother's vanity. It was beautiful. I would sneak it every so often whenever I could. But she would also allow me to. She spoiled me. She also loved Chanel No. 5, but at an early age, as most of us, I didn't enjoy it. As a teen-ager, I turned my nose up at it.An aunt always gifted me with Jean Nate back then also, I'd say from the age of 12 or so, back around the late '60's. I'd use it in the summertime as a refresher, but it wasn't a favorite scent. I'd smelled Shalimar as a young one, and the heavy oriental factor was stuck in my brain. She also gave me Youth Dew and I'd occasionally wear it.An Uncle always gave me Myrurgia Maja every year for my birthday beginning at an early age, too. I so loved that scent.I was gifted other Chanels but at the time, did not like them. The only three that I'd purchase as a teen, wear and enjoy for myself were Tabu, Jovan Musk Oil and any type of patchouli oil that I could find in a head shop. Seems I've always favored the heavier perfumes.

Post your happy here! :)
by Sorceress | Off Topic
...I'm happy just relaxing from my wonderful day yesterday. All of my children came up to celebrate the holidays (Russian Christmas). We cooked together and had a wonderful meal, exchanged gifts and it was a truly wonderful day. It felt like old times when they were young, but now they're grown with respective partners, etc., but the day was full of jokes and laughter and love. I treasure these times.

What really makes you BUY a perfume?
by Sorceress | Perfumes & Brands
...The notes must be ones I like to begin with, but then, the emotions kick in. I must enjoy the ambiance the perfume will deliver for me. And thirdly, the bottle must meet my aesthetic standards.

The Insidious Gourmand, don't you hate it?
...There are days when I want a gourmand, I truly enjoy the scent of one. I have always loved vanilla in a fragrance and found it comforting. It appeals to me. Other days, I want something powerful, something vintage. And other days, I'll wear something masculine or smokey. My tastes vary. But gourmands have their appeal obviously to many since they are being marketed so heavily. Some I've written negative reviews if they've seemed too artificial or plasticky, and others, I've not. But I would never demean another for wearing a gourmand, that is their choice.

What Perfumes Do You Select For The Solstice or Christmas?
by Sorceress | Perfumes & Brands
...Although some might consider this frivolous as a topic, it is not meant to be. On the night of the Winter Solstice, one of the perfumes I wore was Mink & Pearls. It evokes such a spiritual depth for me that it is a perfume I only wear on certain occasions. Today is Christmas Eve, and of course, follows Christmas Day. Out of curiosity, I was wondering if anyone had 'special' perfumes that they had selected for their holidays?I also celebrate Russian Orthodox Christmas on the 7th of January. Not sure what I'll be wearing yet, but Edwardian Fireplace might be a choice unless I can get my hands on something else I've been hoping for.

December thread - summing up this year
by Sorceress | Parfumo Community
...I've acquired more and more information about perfumery. I've learned I won't stop chasing vintages, so far. I'm just not ready. There are too many out there for me to sniff. I've learned there are never enough to make me happy. Even when I truly look at what I have, and I swear to myself I won't make another purchase for awhile, I find I still get antsy after a bit. I need my perfume fix of something, be it new or old. This was once an obsession and passion and it has again become an obsession and passion. I've learned that this is truly a fun hobby, one to share with others. It's relaxing, educational and there is a thrill factor to it when you are searching...as in the "thrill of the hunt".I've learned that I love all perfumes. New and old alike, I never know what will strike my fancy. The quirkier, the better. That much, I have realized.

The end of a love affair-Scents that have lost their magic ?
by Sorceress | Perfumes & Brands
...Can't say that anything has ever really lost its magic for me. Once liked or loved, I'll always feel that way. Whatever the perfume is, it just stays in the rotational seasonal area, so to speak. I just don't like certain perfumes for certain times of year and will "fall out of love" seasonally for them.

Frags so good you can't find an occasion to wear them?
by Sorceress | Perfumes & Brands
...All good points, all good views. We collect, we store diligently. We protect our investments. We worship them. We wear them as we see fit. But then, as they are amassed, we notice there are some that don't get the attention they might deserve. Should they be passed on to someone that might give them more love and attention? To someone that might enjoy them more? But if we wear them, we too would enjoy them just as much as that person. If we would only wear them. That's the problem, we have so many, and there is just so little time. We continue to amass more, to seek more. I do believe we love them as much as the next person, and I know I have placed mine into categories of wear for which I mostly use appropriately. I love them all. And I do appreciate them all for what they have contributed to my happiness.
