Comments on perfumes: compliments and insults
...that the lobby in question smells fabulous.Yes, this is the feature of Apres L'Ondee that I am constantly amazed by. For a few years we owned an Arts and Crafts house, same vintage as the perfume and that is what it smelt like, nostalgia in a bottle, those wonderful scent memories, or are they...

Neil Morris fragrance discussion
by Greysolon | Perfumes & Brands
Re: Neil Morris fragrance discussion
...framework. Of course, I don't know a thing about Mr. Morris' creative process nor am I criticizing his artistry. I'm simply trying to understand his art and I sense an intuitively individual approach that is as American as the work of early New England craftsmen and artistisans all the way to the work... and artistisans all the way to the work of Jackson Pollack and John Cage. An intuitive approach can yield a completely original way of seeing an art form or it can result in a rather muddled outcome because the artist was searching for... something. On the other hand, the discipline of using a...

The Insidious Gourmand, don't you hate it?
...I tried No 18, Jersey, 1932, Coromandel and Eau de Cologne, all disgusting, all a mess.Ultimately I don't think a gourmand perfume can be considered art. It's the easiest way out. The sense of smell and taste are basically the same thing, and what appeals to the tongue appeals to the nose and... to the tongue appeals to the nose and viceversa but that is so lazy, I mean if it smells edible everyone is obviously going to like it. Where is the art? the challenge of liking something that's just for the sense of smell? I think it's bad and has ruined perfumery. Thank you Thierry Mugler...
