Looking for Aldehydes
...must tries are "Caleche" by Hermes and "First" by Van Cleef & Arpels (the latter is almost a reference scent for fatty aldehydic perfume). Amouage "Gold Woman" is very similar at five times the price."Calandre" by Paco Rabanne is a lovely rose aldehyde with chypre leanings, very similar to Rive Gauche...

Suggest a warm oud/oriental/balsamic?
...my Want list. :) I'll check out Absolue pour le Soir but being an MFK my wallet is probably already running away... I think I've been spoiled by 24 Gold. Niche quality oud for such an amazing price... no wonder it's sold out almost everywhere...

Suggest a warm oud/oriental/balsamic?
...the "only if I win the lottery" pile.Voile D'Ambre was an absolute winner of a blind buy, but I'd like a fresh twist on classic amber and vanilla.24 Gold and its sweeter, lighter little brother Raghba are my current signatures. I particularly enjoy the warm woody oud notes in 24 Gold and the slightly medicinal style of the new M7. I've tried some more "genuine" ouds but they've been hit and miss for me; I prefer the woody, bakhoor...

...Dlane1953:I'd buy the perfume version if I were you!I'm with Diana1953. The perfume is Mitsouko at its best. I would also date the set back to the late 1980's/early 1990's. Just had a discusion on Facebook about the "new" Mitsouko. Many people prefer it to the old pre-reformulation stuff. Lucky guys! I wish I could enjoy the Thierry-Wasser-version as much as the old formula. But I can't. Btw, some people claim that "Nahema" will be next on the list.

...Cincy:Marilyn Monroehttp://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chanel-perfume-videoI prefer this to last year's Brad. Marilyn had a beautiful voice. I think it was "inevitable" that Chanel would use the material for a new campaign... When I was trying some new stuff at a small perfumery last year before Christmas, two males entered the shop and asked "Could we try the new Chanel No. 5 for men, please?" The salesperson responded there was no such thing. But the two guys insisted they had seen Brad in an advert and wanted the "new Brad Pit Chanel-perfume!" This was inevitable. Won't happen this year.

Good-smelling cheapies are hard to find
...Today I received a fragrance for free! Yves Rocher had an offer for Halloween, costumers could pick one product of their choice and add it to their basket as a gift, no matter the price and since I was just about to order some shampoo from their website, I grabbed the opportunity and chose "Comme und Evidence EdP Intense". The price normally is "only" 18 Euros. I hadn't tested it before, but in that case (without having to pay for it) - as a "blind order" and coming from Annick Ménardo, I thought "Why not, give it a try". It arrived today and I think it's a fine low-key chypre with less sourness than the original (which I don't like at all) and a warmer note ("praliné") which gives it an approachable, friendly feel. Annick Ménardo, of course, is a master perfumer, she designed this "cheapie" and did a good job. So what's not to like?

Good-smelling cheapies are hard to find
Re: A blind buy - "cheap" leap of faith
...Pipette:Cheapies - I will listen up. So, I ordered "Krasnaya Moskva" just now on Amazon. Not expensive at all, plus - open a store card and get $10. off immediately. I am curious about the "Russian Chanel No. 5" - the notes are to my liking. It is supposed to be heavy but dries down mild, we shall see. Yep, there may be some gems in those less familiar perfume countries, too.Pipette, I can't wait for your opinion. :D

Good-smelling cheapies are hard to find
...Apicius: So far, I have been waiting in vain that my Polish relatives bring me a bottle of "Brutal Fresh" when they travel to Poland. What a name - I am curious!Dear Apicius,we've got some "BRUTAL" at home, not the fresh version, though... - the regular one - and it is a herbaceous, barber-shop kind of scent - not as brutal as one would expect... I'll watch out for the "BRUTAL FRESH" thing next time I'll travel to Poland. I'm just as curious as you.
