Scent of the Day
by Embomb | Perfumes & Brands
...I wore Kenzo Jungle / Jungle L'ÉléphantKenzo Jungle to bed last night, something I've gone back and forth with myself to declutter. I'm glad I never pulled the trigger on that because this last wearing caused me to fall totally in love with it. I've always thought of it as my Christmas candle perfume, hence why I'm wearing it now in December, but I've woken up with it and now I'm noticing such a depth of beauty to it that I hadn't before. A keeper and a staple from now on 🥰

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
by Embomb | Parfumo Community
...AndasuI've just signed up but I think I'm going to be moving my reviews over here. I already like the UI much more, and there's a dark mode! I may as well bring the moving van over right now.I haven't been into fragrances for that long so I had no idea what was really going on in Fragrantica. It wasn't until I did a little bit of digging that I found out what an awful person the owner of the site really is. I saw an article she posted about how she thinks the perfume industry is going to implode in a few years time without providing any justification, like what? Not to mention her clear political beliefs; I had no idea about her sock puppet account. But I think the thing that did it for me was realising that I'm not really welcome there. Among a lot of reviews, there's an undercurrent of... traditionalism, I guess would be the best way to put it? The whole "this is how a real man/woman smells" sort of thing. Which I find absurd, considering that fragrance has no gender, and if it does, then masculine-marketed releases have become extremely similar to feminine-marketed ones. I'm a firm believer in wearing what you want because you like it and because it reflects elements of yourself that you want to highlight. And the review bombing of fragrances by saying it smells like any fragrance with the word "gay" in it... yeah, not a fan of casual homophobia even when the people who do it don't think they are. I'll take my business somewhere that doesn't use that part of myself as a punchline.Absolutely agree on the incessant traditionalism. There's even a strain of delusional fundamentalist superstition, which makes the rest of it even more eerie, but less surprising. There's also the casual homophobia sprinkled everywhere, as well as the blatant and direct homophobia and transphobia as seen in, among others, the JPG Pride article which was taken down. It's sad to see a place that used to be one of my favorite online hangout spots turn into that ...

What Notes Are You Tired of Seeing in Perfumes?
by Embomb | Perfumes & Brands
...VlyrI will always say that iris is a love-hate for me. It adds an extra olfactory dimension to the whole formulation, but, at the same time, do I want that extra dimension or do I think the perfume would smell better without it?The note that I definitely can't get pass through is Leather. No chance for my nose to apreciate that note. At all.Oh yeah i totally agree about the leather note. It's such a screechy smell to me and I absolutely avoid it for the most part, especially in newer perfumes. It's fine in Shalimar (Eau de Parfum)Shalimar Eau de Parfum but that's about it.Iris is a huge love for me. However, I highly prefer it to smell prominent and rooty/carroty or lipsticky like in Iris RebelleIris Rebelle . If it's too light and airy it's like why is it even listed as a note?

...Narcisse (Parfum)Narcisse Parfum except my bottle looks like a miniature of the edt bottle instead of what's in the database. This scent is totally new to me and it's beautiful, for sure.

Any (hobbyist or small business) perfume makers here?
by Embomb | Perfume Discussions
...OmnipotatoMy biggest advice to someone just starting out is to look at as many formulas as you can. The same way that an aspiring author reads many novels by the masters, or a music composer learns how to compose by following along their favorite tunes with sheet music, perfumers learn by analyzing and recreating formulas. Labtorium offers very close interpretations of a lot of different fragrances, and they have some available for free. GoodScents also has many demo formulas, but those are mostly accords, not full compositions. Also utilizing communities like the Basenotes DIY forum. This is excellent advice I shall finally take next time I feel like getting my materials out and dabbling! I think I've avoided it so far just because I have so many different vials of different things, but never what the formula calls for 😂

Any (hobbyist or small business) perfume makers here?
by Embomb | Perfume Discussions
...I should take a class, I bet they happen in the city sometimes 🤔I've been experimenting on and off over the years with making my own blends with perfumer's alcohol from vetiver aromatics and aromachemicals and naturals from the perfumer's supply house here in the states. It's tons of fun for me and I've even created some things I enjoy wearing sometimes. My issue is that I have no methodology skills for it so I just throw together one-off scents and can't recreate anything so if I wanted to start a brand, I'd have to really focus on getting that part down. Besides the market is so saturated with new brands launching seemingly every day, there's no way I can compete with that to break even 😂 Keeping my day job for now.

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
by Embomb | Parfumo Community
...I've been over here for a few weeks, moved all my little digital bottles and still moving my reviews. Elena and her band of idiots who literally push negativity and bigotry as well as climate denialism and other crazy conspiracy theories for ad revenue will no longer be getting my business. I am so glad i made this change and I look forward to continuing to contribute to this community and watching it grow! 😄

What is your most expensive bottle?
by Embomb | Perfume Discussions
...That I actually paid full retail for is definitely Fève GourmandeFève Gourmande. Even the smallest available bottle, which is 100ml for some very strange reason, is prohibitively expensive, but I had to. For science But some of my most precious fragrances are ones that smell amazing to /on me but are discontinued. Some I hardly paid anything for like my bottle of Sahara NoirSahara Noir and some I splurged for but not nearly as much as the above mentioned Guerlain like Alien Essence AbsolueAlien Essence Absolue.

Did I miss something??? Oud Wood Parfum?
by Embomb | Perfumes & Brands
...I do believe that Oud Wood Parfum is one of the new Tom Ford releases coming soon along with Oud Minerale moving to the Signature line. Also the new Vanilla Sex and Vanille Fatale (rerelease) will be making a trio with Tobacco Vanille.

Do you spray different perfumes on different bodyparts?
by Embomb | Perfume Discussions
...I Love to wear La Vie est Belle L'Eau de ParfumLa Vie est Belle L'Eau de Parfum just one spray on the back of my neck. I noticed it performs best that way. I won't get nose blind from having it constantly wafting up from my wrists because it is so strong. Instead I will get lovely whiffs from moving around, turning my head, etc. It's so dynamic that way. Most perfumes are fine on the wrists, and some are even good on the chest, but that is the only one I wear only one spray to the back of my neck and nowhere else.

Good-smelling cheapies are hard to find
by Embomb | Perfumes & Brands
...RingtaleI am quite late on the subject🙂, but Tosca by Maurer & Wirtz is a great 'cheapy' if you like soapy, aldehydic perfumes. It's being compared to Chanel No5 often, but I actually think Tosca is nicer. It's easily found online in Europe. I would advice the EDP, but the EDT is also very nice (as is the EDC, but that doesn't last as long as the EDT and/or EDP ofcourse, though it performs very well for an EDC compared to other colognes)Giorgio from Beverly Hils is also not expensive and can be found in many drugstores for a song.Lace, now distributed by Milton & Lloyd, is also nice, it was originally made by Yardley, but it is still a beautyful, fresh and powdery scent. Thanks for reviving this thread! It was interesting to see which perfumes were cheap in the past. Some of which are no longer so easy to get for a song Bvlgari BlackBvlgari Black 👀I think the entire house of Solstice Scents is a great source of original "cheapies" if you enjoy incense or gourmands in particular. Some of my favorites are Nightgown (Perfume)Nightgown Perfume Scrying Smoke (Perfume)Scrying Smoke Perfume and Foxcroft (Perfume)Foxcroft Perfume (as an aside, I think I'll start looking for some pictures for these)
