Which masculine scents can be worn by a woman?
by Sherapop | Perfumes & Brands
...Njdeb:I do agree that the woman = flowers, men = woods is just a manufactured dichotomy, but we were asked to make some kind of distinction between... how others are making this distinction. Is it simply what you think smells good on you?I hope nobody minds a guy hijacking the thread for a moment. Njdeb, agreed. But if I might be so bold... it seems to me men have far fewer fragrance options than women because of cultural stereotyping and social...

Parfumo/Fragrantica
by Njdeb | Parfumo Community
...PBullFriend:So far, I like it here very much. Of the two other sites, I have felt that one has been not-so-welcoming to gay people and one has been not-so-welcoming to women. I haven't seen evidence of either of those issues here, and I also haven't seen anyone insulting anyone else. Parfumo has felt closer to my personality lately, and I'm looking forward to spending more time here when I can and posting more reviews. I feel the same way :)

Parfumo/Fragrantica
by Njdeb | Parfumo Community
...Sherapop:It is true that some days it seems very quiet, but it's up to us to move our perfume-related discussions over here. The more that's going on here, the more people will come. This is very true. I know a good number of people who have joined here who are capable of very lively discussions indeed :) Some of those discussions are going on in facebook groups now. If we start moving those over here, things should perk up a bit. I think people are quite friendly here, but it does have a different feel from Fragrantica. That's a good thing in my mind. Different people will feel comfortable in different forums. It's good to have a choice. Anyone who wants to see some more fun topics should just throw them out there. I think some perfume related games like 'the game of notes' from Fragrantica would fit in well here. This place will evolve as more people join; it's very much a work in process. The members here now really have an opportunity to help shape what this site becomes. It really just takes people participating - initiating and responding to topics and posting and commenting on reviews. So I say, just let your presence be known and this place will naturally become livelier and more fun!

Comments on perfumes: compliments and insults
by Njdeb | Perfumes & Brands
...DieNase:Sometimes I wonder if I don't apply enough or if people don't like it and are just too polite to say something. I sometimes feel that way too. Or else I'll get a compliment on some very common fruity-floral scent I happen to be trying - hardly ever the more interesting ones. Kind of disappointing...

Which masculine scents can be worn by a woman?
by Njdeb | Perfumes & Brands
...DieNase:I agree with Sonnenfee when it comes to flowery fragrances. Why the heck should a woman want to smell like a bouquet of flowers?I feel like I've been hearing some variation of this a lot lately, and it always puzzles me. Why wouldn't a woman (or anyone really) want to smell like flowers? Flowers smell great. From time immemorial, poets have been using the metaphor of flowers to describe things (or people) that smell good, and all perfumes with a high degree of natural content are derived from something in nature. As Sherapop said, why smell of woods, spices or anything else that is not "human."?I think sometimes people think that liking floral perfumes is cliche' or unsophisticated. Who knows? Maybe this is because children seem instinctively drawn to the smell of flowers and scents like leather, oud, etc. seem to be more of an acquired (adult?) taste. Then again, I find that there are sophisticated "adult" florals (even soliflores) and one's that seem more childish. I do agree that the woman = flowers, men = woods is just a manufactured dichotomy, but we were asked to make some kind of distinction between masculine and feminine in this thread. I wonder how others are making this distinction. Is it simply what you think smells good on you?

Which masculine scents can be worn by a woman?
by Njdeb | Perfumes & Brands
...A few that come to mind are Lolita Lempicka Au Masculin, Dior Eau Sauvage, Prada Infusion d'Homme and Bvlgari pour Homme. Also, I just tried Amouage Jubilation XXV and think it smells great on me ;)Btw, I immediately know if a scent is too masculine for me as my brutally honest sixteen year-old will say, "MOOOOM, are you wearing men's cologne again?!?!" (picture eyes rolling)

Cultural influence on perfume taste
by Njdeb | Perfumes & Brands
...I agree with AromiErotici, Americans tend to gravitate toward whatever is being "sold" to them at the time by marketers. At this time it's fresh, clean, sweet and fruity. When I first started getting into perfume in the eighties, though, it was totally different. We were all wearing heavy orientals like Opium, Poison and Obsession and big monster florals like Giorgio, Amarige and Eternity. In my mother's day, it was aldehydes like Shalimar and Chanel 5. I think the typical consumer just follows what happens to be in fashion at the time.
