Fendi Substitute?
by PBullFriend | Perfume Recommendations
Fendi substitute?
...Oh, this is so difficult. I have some Fendi but the US postal service has made it impossible to ship outside the US without a commercial permit. (I don't take lying on government forms lightly.)Although there are flowers listed in Fendi, I don't notice them at all. To me, it's all about the nutmeg, coriander, and wood. When I try to think of other scents that have something in common with it, I can only think of others from that era, which are also hard to find. Is it at all possible that you can find it on Swedish eBay? (There are bottles of it on US eBay.)I see a lot of people on another site comparing it to Teatro alla Scala (which I've never smelled) -- but I think you would also have to find that on eBay or a sales site like that. The original version of Opium, while it doesn't smell the same as Fendi, has a similar spicy, bold scent of the 1980s. Somebody who likes Fendi would probably like the original Opium. (The recent Opium isn't bad, but it's not very close to the original.) Belle d'Opium, which came out just a few years ago, is closer to the original Opium, actually. I think it has also been discontinued but, since it was produced more recently, it might be easier to find a good bottle of it.Ah -- here's an idea -- what about Estee Lauder Cinnabar? It's still in production and hasn't been changed much from its original bold, spicy 1980s self. Oh -- or another possibility if she doesn't mind a strong amaretto note -- Cartier Le Baiser du Dragon -- it has that powerful, spicy presence from the 1980s, with a patchouli underlay as Fendi does. It may even still be in production. I see LOTS of it on US eBay. Although it has a 1980s style, it is from 2003.I hope these ideas help. It's wonderful that you are trying so hard to find something your mom-in-law will love! (By the way, Fendi came in an edt and an edp formulation. I strongly prefer the edt.)

Noses to B&BW fragrances?

...You're welcome. I don't know where Parfumo gets the information. The people who work on this site check a lot of different places for their data - they do great work!

Noses to B&BW fragrances?
by PBullFriend | Perfumes & Brands
...I don't know a way to find out more easily than clicking through each of their scents:Brown Sugar & Fig = David Apel, Clement Gavarry, Honorine Blanc Cashmere Glow = Evelyne BoulangerDark Kiss (edp and edt) = David Apel (Symrise)Forever Red = Honorine Blanc, Harry Frémont (Firmenich)etc. (I can't take the time to go through them all now.) So it seems that they are hiring folks from Symrise and Firmenich, which are two of the 5 or so top scent manufacturers.

Lucky Scent devotees: may I ask you?
by PBullFriend | Perfume Recommendations
...Sadly, I am genetically incapable of not paying attention to the news. Well, maybe unless I was exiled to a place that had no television or internet or cell phone. I should try that if I ever get the money to make it happen! Even for a week would be good. :D

Lucky Scent devotees: may I ask you?

...I am so jealous of anyone who gets to go there! Nice to hear some description of what it's like. And I'm so glad people here can talk things through like adults. I've had an unnecessarily rough afternoon - a FB friend I like very much is being rude because we disagree on who should be the Democratic nominee for President. He has said multiple negative things about my candidate (Sanders), which I have ignored. I said something negative about his, and he was posting multiple things on my page and getting very angry. I take politics very seriously, but if we can't strive to be civil, we're all going to be miserable.

What's up with Chanel?
by PBullFriend | Perfumes & Brands
...Ooh. That makes me think of a lawsuit/crackdown sort of thing. Maybe just one vaguely hinted at, though. When Bond No 9 threatened to sue everyone and her brother, all of the sample places pulled it immediately without putting it on sale. I know Chanel has a huge legal department because they are among the most counterfeited companies in the world. Maybe they had some spare time & decided to go after the decant folks, too. That's truly unfortunate, because a LOT of people won't get to try some of the lesser-known Chanel stuff now - the expensive stuff that TPC and StC were selling by the half-milliliter. :(

Most important countries in contemporary perfumery?
by PBullFriend | Perfumes & Brands
...No problem, dear GH!I love the different ways that Parfumo lets us sort our scents, and I tried a couple of different ways to answer this question.I was surprised in both how much Italy trailed France. I've formed deep emotional connections with so many Italian perfumes. (My dear Fendi Fendi! My beloved Dolce Riso!) I also thought that the US would be far down the list - my home country is both wonderful and exasperating, but I'd never thought of it as a competitor in perfume. But the numbers don't lie. (Do they?) Of my "most worn" 16, France had 7, the US 3, and Italy, Japan, and England two each. Then, sorting my collection of bottles by rating, France had 54, the US 22, Italy 13, Japan 5, UK 3, and Spain, Switzerland, and Germany had two each. (I'm guessing that, if I were richer, Italy would do better in comparison to France in my collection. French perfumes are far more available at the online discounters that I can afford.)And the US vanquishing Italy? Maybe it's because perfumes made here are more widely available to me? France - je t'aime, mais je ne suis pas certaine que tu es la Reine de Parfum. Desolee.
