Citrus/fresh nivhe perfume for summer
by Ringtale | Perfume Discussions
...I've heard some good things about Essence of the Park (Eau de Parfum)Essence of the Park Eau de Parfum I haven't smelled it myself yet, but it sounds really unique and lovely. The only thing that is holding me back from trying/buying is the longivity and sillage, I read different opinions about that. But I love the name, notes and appearance of the bottle and find that very intriguing.;-)

Scent of the Day
by Ringtale | Perfumes & Brands
...Good Evening SOTD: Today I've been wearing Fidji (2003) (Eau de Toilette)Fidji (2003) Eau de Toilette Love the fresh feel of it without it being 'just a freshy'. I always feel a bit 'classy' wearing this, but not in that 'diva- or bossy kind of way'; it's very classy indeed, but it remains a kind scent.

Where do you buy fragrances?
by Ringtale | Perfume Discussions
...EvitaVillaI avoid Sephora or Nocibe ( French Douglas) as they are very often more expensive than the fragrance houses themselves. I buy at Le Printemps, or directly from the fragrance houses or at a local niche perfumerie called Le Soleil d'Or.Online, I shop at Incenza, Parfumdo, Notino, MyOrigines or Parfumdreams. I compare their price and I have never had a bad experience with these websites. My 2 last purchases were at Notino as they were the cheapest for what I wanted to order : Jardins de Bagatelle (Eau de Toilette)Jardins de Bagatelle Eau de Toilette , White Rose (Eau de Toilette)White Rose Eau de Toilette and Hermann à mes Côtés me Paraissait une OmbreHermann à mes Côtés me Paraissait une Ombre . Goodmorning, I avoid Douglas too and had good experiences with most of the online webshops such as Notino, Supersales (sometimes via Bol.com and they often give something extra like a bodylotion of the same perfume - ofcourse with a message, asking if you would be so kind to add a positive review :-)), Deloox etc. But I always check the packaging and batchcode, no matter what. Some time ago I had ordered Vetiver (Eau de Toilette)Vetiver Eau de Toilette through Bol.com (who work with other partners) for my brother's birthday and it came in a messy packaging with a big sticker right on where I should be able to see the batchcode, so I told them I didn't trust it and wanted to send it back. I immediately got a mail from the retrailer that I could be confident it was real and that the sticker was from Amazon (so also partners of partners of partners can be involved where it concerns online shopping :-)) and that I was allowed to take of the cellophane to see- and check the batchcode, box and bottle for myself and that, if I then still would not trust it, I could send it back despite removing the cellophane and would get my money back. It all appeared to be okay. When I've asked for a sample in a 'physical' store to test a perfume before buying, I will buy the perfume there out of decency :-)

Can you relate to the 'people who like this, also like' list
by Ringtale | Parfumo Community
...SmirkyIt all depends on the algorithm used to populate the list.  I had the opportunity to provide the first review for a perfume on Fragrantica. The "also like" list was empty. After I submitted my review, the 5 fragrances in my favorites top shelf appeared as "also likes" as well as 15 others from my collection. It's not clear how those 15 were selected since they don't seem to have anything in common.  I suspect the accuracy and usefulness of the "also like" list would get better as more people submit reviews. Hi Smirky,Yes, I also think it's about algorithms (seems to me the only way to create such a list) but I don't really know if it is about the amount of reviews on a perfume. Sometimes, when there are no reviews of a perfume here, I look for those on Fragantica ( with mixed feelings I must say, because it is a site I left as a member because I hate their political talks and don't like their attitude, but on which there are far more reviews) and also on that site, I can't relate to their 'who likes this, also like'-list..no matter the amount of reviews.

What if your spouse doesn't care for perfumes??
by Ringtale | Parfumo Community
...CocopahHi Ringtale,My SO couldn't care less about perfume. He is a water-and-neutral soap type of guy. After 25 years I´ve lost hope this will everchange. Obviously, I wear perfume daily and I still wear perfume at home because that´s what I love and makes ME happy. Regarding his feedback on perfumes I am considering buying/testing or wearing I follow the wise German saying "not complaining is a good enough compliment". Best wishes,CocopahHi Cocopah,Thanks for your reply! It's nice to know I'm not the only one and I guess that German saying is very wise :-) I will keep that in mind :-)!Thanks again and have a nice evening!Ringtale.

What if your spouse doesn't care for perfumes??
by Ringtale | Parfumo Community
...I'm wondering if anyone here does recognize this: I love, love, love, perfumes! But whenever I ask my (by the way lovely and caring) boyfriend what he thinks about a scent, most of the times he just doesn't care :-( !It's not that important ofcourse, but just a bit frustrating sometimes when you want an opinion or just want to share the fun of exploring scents....Because, in my case, I think the poor guy just gets a bit weary from me, bothering him by asking his opinion about fragrances all the time.I'm glad I can share my interest in perfumes here ofcourse, but I'm just curious if more people here do have the same (minor) 'problem' and how they deal with it: Do you just stop bothering your better half with questions about scents if he/she just doesn't care? Or do you keep hoping that - maybe - one day.....:-)...?

Where do you buy fragrances?
by Ringtale | Perfume Discussions
..."And what about souk and buying and swapping with another privat person? I guess tips for checking authenticity are the same... thanks again for your effort" Hi again, and my pleasure. I don't know about buying from- and/or swapping with another private person, never done that, but I presume that the method to check the originality of the fragrance would be the same. Ofcourse there always is a chance that someone pours a fake juice into a genuine bottle and put that into a genuine box, but...hey if we have to live that distrustful, we don't have a life anymore and my impression of this site, for instance, is that people are decent and kind :-).

Where do you buy fragrances?
by Ringtale | Perfume Discussions
...Don't know about second hand perfumes, but I often buy my perfumes online from webstores that I trust. But, before opening, I always check the box: Does the cellophane in which it is wrapped looks neat and tight? Is the cardboard of good quality, if not, one should be warned; are there any mistakes in spelling or grammar? If so, one should be warned! Then I'll check if there is a batchcode (often on the bottom of the box) and then I'll check this code (also online: you can easily find a 'batchcode-checker' online where you can enter the brand and the code to see if it belongs to the brand and when it was produced). Only then, if this appears to be okay, I open the packaging. Then I also take a good look at the bottle (this will be more easy when it concerns a second hand perfume I guess because then you won't need to take of the cellophane): Does the glass look alright: smooth and without any imperfections or asymmetries and (again) no mistakes in spelling or grammar, is the tube from the sprayer not too long (in which case it will look too much bended inside the glass) and does the bottle (also on the bottom) carry the same batchcode as the box?Hope this helps.

Can you relate to the 'people who like this, also like' list
by Ringtale | Parfumo Community
...Maybe it's just me, but most of the times I can't relate to the 'people who like this, often also like'- list. Most of the perfumes mentioned in that list, related to perfumes I love, are perfumes I absolutely don't like...Does anyone recognize this or am I the only one and have I got a weird taste :-)? Just curious :-).

The bitterness in chypres
...EvitaVillaIt's an interesting topic. I'm agree with you, chypres are bitter and you skin is not guilty, especially since you smell that bitterness on your clothes. The one chypre I find especially bitter is Miss Dior (Eau de Toilette Originale)Miss Dior Eau de Toilette Originale , but for me it's ok.It might be simply a question of personal taste. Some people doesn't like Campari even they like orange, or Pastis even they like anise, because they are bitter beverages.I would be glad to read other opinions on that bitter topic!Hi, thanks for your response. Oh that's funny, because Miss Dior Originale is one of the few chypres that does not have that effect on me! (although I don't love my latest purchase of that, from april 2023 says the batchcode, as much as my former bottle, but that is not about bitterness). I have most problems with Jean-Louis Scherrer (Eau de Toilette)Jean-Louis Scherrer Eau de Toilette and Azurēe (2015)Azurēe (2015) which I find so, so very beautyful and so bright (opposite of bitter) in their opening....bet then that drydown...Maybe you find galbanum bitter and with me it is more the oakmoss?

The bitterness in chypres
...I have a question: I love the opening of many chypres, but most of them turn out very bitter on my skin and not in a good way, but in a rancid sort of way. I don't know if it is my skinchemistry or my perception of scents (because when I spray it on clothes, I also get this bitterness in the drydown and my boyfriend does not smell this bitterness). It's kind of frustrating to love a scent and then feel disappointed, smelling that bad kind of bitterness. I also wonder what note this could be. I guess it's oakmoss, but I also have perfumes with oakmoss that do not have this affect on me. Does anyone recognize this and what could it be???

Do you store your frag in the box?
by Ringtale | Perfume Discussions
...Yes I do. Not only because it's better for the perfume, but also in case I don't use it that often and am thinking of giving it to someone else who does like it more than I do. It's nicer, I think, to get (and to give) a perfume in it's box 😉.

Scent of the Day

...Miss Dior (Eau de Toilette Originale)Miss Dior Eau de Toilette Originale I proudly listed her as my signature this afternoon 🙂.Oh dear, My previous - 10 year old - bottle was empty and today I wore a new bottle which is from april 2023...I'm afraid it is reformulated. Very different experience. I don't mind reformulations because they are often done for a good cause, but in this case it's a shame the perfume is not that lovely anymore (or I may have gotten a fake, ordered it online). So now L'air du Temps is back as my signature 🙂. Also lovely!
