Good-smelling cheapies are hard to find
by Rubyred | Perfumes & Brands
sweet cheaps
...Elizabeth Arden Green Tea is a worthy replacement for L'Occitane The Vert. It also lasts much longer than all the Bvulgari Tea Scents (ie longer than fifteen minutes).Yardley's April Violet is a gorgeous, true, violet scent with an embarrassingly low price tag.Jean-Charles Brosseau's Violette+Menthe is a slightly less cheap but lovely, uplifting, violet scent. Yardley's Royal English Daisy is difficult to pick from Marc Jacob's very much more expensive Daisy.Mariah Carey Lollipop Bling to me is a dead ringer for the much more expensive Marc Jacobs Dot. I've been trying some of the Molinard soliflores and they seem to offer a better alternative to the hefty priced and prettily marketed Jo Malone range.

Which smells do you like that are NOT perfumes?
by Rubyred | Off Topic
Diesel (not the perfume)
...When I was a kid on the farm, I used to fill up my tractor with diesel, or fill up the cars with petrol. I loved the smell, I used to put my face down to get a whiff of the petrol (preferred this over diesel, but I would sniff them both happily) as it was going in. I didn't know then that it was dangerous, I just liked smelling it. I don't think it got me high, it was just the smell of it. I used to offer to fill up my parents' cars, so I could smell the petrol I look back in disbelief. I would only have been 10 or 12. Yeah, farm kids start young. Our kelpie (sheepdog) had a favourite smell too. If he could find a dead and rotting sheep, he would roll over and over in it, in ecstacy.

Spitting Vipers Almost Women
...Well Dlane where are you from, that you have spitting vipers in the street. Underlying endemic respiratory problems? Your profile says United States Minor Outlying Islands. Is that somewhere in Harry Potter land? It sounds mysterious.

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members

Censorship
...I stopped being an active member on Fragrantica because of censorship issues.Firstly there was censorship - I had to believe the moderators had some vested interest in various perfumes because my negative reviews would just be deleted overnight. My reviews weren't nasty, just unfavourable. It seemed there were plenty of complaints from others about the same thing. I choose to not rely on a site where the moderators were clearly tailoring published opinions and where I was allowed to read only approved reviews. That Fragrantica blocks references to Parfumo on it's webt site is further evidence of their totalitarian attitude to censorship as a method of controlling the minds of their readers. Secondly there was the lack of censorship where it was needed. Sad to say there are vicious trolls around who get their cheap thrills from written abuse and I was so disgusted by what Fragrantica readers did to Olga in a thread, and the lack of intervention to stop the bullying that was clearly out of control - it was as if the moderators were sitting back counting the 'hits' at Olga's expense. A couple of these types of incidents did it in for me. Just reading those threads spoilt the whole experience. There were good things about Fragrantica including the vast data base, the numbers of participants and wide range of reviews including by perfume not-snobs (which I miss here and I try and do my little bit to redress) as well as perfume elitists, the visuals were attractive and easy to navigate. This site is attractive, less messy visually, super easy to use especially the perfume identifier which drops down after you start typing the name; most importantly for me there doesn't seem to be as much willingness to take someone apart but that might be more early intervention by the moderators. It just has an easier ambience that sits better with Sunday morning coffee and chocolate croissants. And yes I can do without those silly threads but of course you don't have to read them - I got a good giggle out the Barbie thread. Thanks for letting me have that gem on Sunday morning Cincy.I love reading the reviews of what I will call the elitists (Sherapop et al) but I do miss on Parfumo, a lot, the reviews written by perfume not-snobs. I like it when someone says why they love Midnight Fantasy - it's a clear and honest opinion and grounds a wider variety of offerings. If only some of the people who are listed as owning a perfume wrote a short review (or a long review, even better) on what they own, or some of them, then I think this site would be greatly improved. That might be just a function of this being a newish site, but I think there is a reticence here of perfume non-snobs to offer their reviews. Some might say fine, leave it as a more refined site. I like reading lots of reviews but I don't really care to visit Fragrantica to do it because I know their reviews are censored and directed.

...A 401(k) is a type of retirement savings plan. "401(k)" refers to the section of our Federal tax code that outlines the plan. Thanks for that. I thought Dulcemio meant she was trying to lose (a very lot of) weight, and that it still came out as a typo.Yeah Smells so good I saw the fire of the helicopter crash on World News spectacular fire its a wonder there was so little casualty still I suppose a helipcopter doesn't take up much space on the planet.

WHO.......is the worst actor or actress known to mankind?
by Rubyred | Off Topic
...Frimo writes - Daniel Craig (as James Bond, but I don't know whether it's his fault)I say anyone who plays a James Bond role is bad, in that role. James Bond is just an embarrassing concept of the mega-cringe level. On a par with Charlie Sheen, I'd say.And I love Arnie Schwarcznegger (but can't spell his name) (you yanks are so disloyal) so that must prove how easy to please I am and just how revolting Charlie Sheen and James Bond are.And Sherapop Mila Jovovich was so gorgeous in The Fifth Element, and also played a powerful role in Aeon Flux. Loved her in both. Joan of Arc was admittedly as dull as Little Women, which must take the cake for the dullest movie (even Susan Sarendon couldn't ignite it and Keira Knightly was memorable only for her pouting) and the most boring book ever written.

...Smells so good I must guess an 'amber' warningis a go slow or be cautious warning, like an amber traffic light and it denotes a light snow condition (like fine white swirling snow?) Oh to walk out naked in that and cool down my hot skin - it's 37degrees as I write and 9.30pm Dreaming of snow in the Dreamtime.....

Give me snow Give me crocuses
...Snow (sigh) Crocuses (sigh) Mohair jumpers, woolly scarves, log fires, hot chocolate and heavy perfumes Well no, you can keep the orientals.I truly do feel like we're on the other end of the world. Where are you from Cryptic and Dig in Dirt. yes, I know its the Northern Hemisphere. Poor innocent crocuses, but their life force is safe under the ground. 40,000 sheep dead in just one fire. 45.8 degrees in Sydney today. Hottest day on record. Crazy days. I spoke to my girlfriend in Western Australia last week it was 49 degrees there. She is from Finland. She came out here for the brave warm world. Poor Pia.I am making the most of what our climate offers by going on a mainly fruit diet, got a blender, lots of smoothies with banana, passionfruit, kiwi fruit, blueberries, the mangoes are sweet and juicy, there's so much fresh fruit around New years resolution of daily carrot and beetroot and apple juices, I'm drinking so much beetroot and carrot its a wonder the sweat rolling off me isn't pink.quote for the day "YOU TAKE THE WEATHER WITH YOU" - YOU can make it a smiley day, a grumpy day, a thunderstormy day, a lifting of the fog and blowing away the cobwebs day, a cold lunch, a hot night, a dismal day, a pure and crisp morning, a sweltering evening, a windswept night. The weather only dictates the clothes you wear, not your emotional state.I hope everyone enjoys their day. I am dreaming of pulling that cashmere rug up on me though.Dulcemio My grandmother's name was Dulcie. I guess you know it means honeyed voice or sweet, mellifluous notes. Snow in the driveway
...The tales of some of you shovelling snow have inspired me to advise the NSW (Australia) Weather Bureau has today incorporated two new colours into their weather maps (purple and pink) to indicate hotter temperatures (up to 54 degrees). Today was the hottest day in New South Wales on record (ie in 90 years) and the hottest day in South Tasmania in 120 years. Alice Springs has had 6 days in a row over 42 degrees (42 degrees Centregrade is 107.6 degrees Farenheight), and 6 more days over 40 are expected. 45 degrees at Uluru (Ayers Rock) - that's 113 degrees F. 3/4 of New South Wales faces catastrophic fire threat. And of course the wind is fierce and relentless. No, I don't have air conditioning. Not a day to want to wear Beyonce's Heat, or at least think about it. So some snow in the driveway is a deliciously shivery but far away dream. For those who are pining the tyrannical forbidding of kitty pic.s, here is a pic of a fireman holding water for a koala bear ..Sorry can't load this would someone tell me how to load a photo, thanks
