Weekly Scent Discussion #14: Strange notes, just a gimick?

...Sleuth:Insense:a realistic note of shower curtain!LOL! I just bought a new one, I have to sniff it now :DWell, my plastic shower curtain is apparently made of PEVA (poly ethylene-vinyl acetate),it smells of the plastic of an inflatable pool for small children. Do you smell that in Room 237 too?I think it's a pleasant plastic smell and fairly neutral. It also reminds me of inflatable 'water wings' for small swimming kids. And slightly of inflatable boats, for kids too.

Weekly Scent Discussion #14: Strange notes, just a gimick?

...Another great topic BT :)I like strange notes but it's also true that they are often only gimicks. But even when they are minor notes they can add a nice little touch, like for example the (small) green pepper/paprika note in EldO Archives 69

Hermès perfumes

...Any thoughts about the new "Le Jardin de Monsieur Li", or "Jour d'Hermès Gardenia" ?I just sprayed the Jour d'hermès Gardenia on paper and the top notes smell quite green. Almost as if it was a side-project to Jardin de Monsieur Li...What are your thoughts?

Weekly Scent Discussion #9: How do you love your rose?

...Briarthorn:@ Sleuth, I am going to have to look into this Japanese rose you speak of. I have Imogen Rose which I haven't spent much time with yet but I recall it being a Turkish/Taif/Damask rose. My favorite. I need to see if I can dig up a sample of the "Swarovski Edition", I am really curious about this Japanese Rose.Well, on the one hand it's nothing special, it's just a 'pink' rose. So you should smell Imogen Rose if you want to know what it smells like. You're right that they use a different kind of rose in that one, so the smell I'm talking about is not unique. But when those rose bushes are in bloom, I often smell those flowers and they smell very flowery, sweet and 'pink'. I just like the smell a lot.

Perfume-related quotes

...I'm more a tv personPatrick Jane, the gifted police consultant from The Mentalist sniffs a ripped off finger/hand that lies on the highway. He says: "This smells of jasmine, this woman wore J'Adore."And in Breaking Bad DEA cop Hank Schrader inspects the car of a meth cook/drug dealer. The cop: "this smells like a Drakkar factory!":D

Your Most Worn Perfumes

...Re Mugler Pure Energy:I see it more like a freshie with great performance, and it has patchouli.Re Breath of God:I agree with you. I remember wearing it once in public transport and really wondering how many people were inside of my huge SMOKE & MELON scent bubble :) But apparently Briarthorn wears it to work sometimes, she's got some balls! I think BoG is very original, I've never smelled that kind of smoke in another fragrance.

Weekly Scent Discussion #9: How do you love your rose?

...My favourites are:- a rose with a lot of geranium (like "Une Rose")- fragrances with rose that are not focussed on rose (like "Concentré de Pamplemousse Rose")I would also like to try a scent like "Acteur", which has rose + leather + oakmoss. "Rose of Bulgaria for Men" is also on my wish list. Fragrances I can't wear but that I do love are:- fragrances with Japanese rose:-for example "Swarovski Edition", or "Gorilla Perfume At Lush - Imogen Rose" (contains a different rose but smells similar). I would describe the scent of this rose as a bright 'pink' floralness. Giving a 'pink' impression like YSL Paris but without violet.- Rose + ylang ylang, like "Rouge Hermès". Basically I like everything that has ylang :)PS. Ladies, take a look at this cool topic: http://www.parfumo.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1898

Suggestions for a sweet cheapie for all occasions?

...Hi all,I'm looking for a replacement of my "Amber pour Homme" because it's just not my taste. Apicius already recommended "J'S Extè Man", "Custo Man" and "Arpège pour Homme". They are probably very good, but I'm fed up with blind buys......So I'm still looking for a sweet fragrance and preferrably with the following properties:- it's cheap, €30 / $35 or less- it's fine for work and social occasions- no blind buys please, I like scents that are a bit more complexThings that would qualify would be: "Bvlgari Black", "Fleur du Mâle", "The Dreamer", but I think I can do better :)I'm looking forward to your suggestions!

Weekly Scent Discussion #8: Those notes that you rock.

...Nice topic :)Tobacco, tobacco flower and aquatics work very well for me. I really like them.Ideal combo's: I like wearing flowers, they cheer me up. I'm talking about violet that isn't sweet, some ylang ylang and moderate amounts of rose. Usually I feel most comfortable with cologne compositions, like "Hommage a l'Homme".Note from hell: star anise. Theoretically it can smell great but it never does for me. Opium pour Homme and even LIDGE are bad on me and make me feel uncomfortable.

Venturing into niche/artisan perfumes

...I haven't encountered Bpal or Siberie yet. My favourite niche houses are Maison Francis Kurkdjian and IL Profvmo. - Lush is also a favourite of mine, I consider them artisanal perfumes because they´re so unconventional. I´d also like to try another one by Kerosene, he started as a fragrance reviewer but he has been making perfumes for some years [email protected] Flavorite: Interesting that you recommend Illuminum, because what I heard on forums was that it was a bit "meh". So why do you like them so much? Which are the best ones?
