...Hello Bartleby. Thank you very much for this. Lui as 'an iron fist in a velvet glove' is the most aptly crisp perfume description I`ve read for a long, long time. This one really is a beauty and so multi-faceted. Sometimes it reminds me of some maroccan or arabian oil perfume in spirit, think musk gazelle or the like. There are frightening tales of horror about this on the german parfumo site which are inappropriate. It`s smooth. I like to layer my newer bottle with just a trace of hyraceum tincture to get back the drydown effects of the older one. Really fascinating scent, that`s what it is.
...I've been looking for a dirty-musk yesterday as my local perfumery sadly doesn't carry Muscs Kublai Khan anymore. Finally I bought two bottles of the scent "Lui" by "Mazzolari" which is simply stunning. A beast of a patchouly with the dark animalic barnyard horsesweat honeyed tobacco indolic floral civety smell at maximum volume and in great harmony with an ambery sandalwood. Both bottles are definitely vintage: One is a tester with a slightly darker colour of the liquid. This one smells much dirtier than the other bottle which has been sprayed the first time by myself. Even though the "newer" one doesn't have an ingredient's list/barcode etc. on the box and possibly is 10 years old or even older, it smells as it was a slightly reformulated version: It's still powerful, a bit fresher, more floral, less skanky. I wonder if this is an aging issue of the patchouly and the animalic compounds. If so, then I hope the patch will age quickly. Are there other lovers of this scent among the Parfumo crowd? What are your observations with "Lui"?Thank you very much!
...Current top 10:Mitsouko, Bandit, Aromatics Elixir, Missoni di Missoni original, Jacomo Anthracite pH, Homme de Grès,Gentlemens Aftershave by Bronnley,Perris Monte Carlo Oud Imperial,Lutens Santal Majuscule,Kenzo Jungle Elephant
...I have a soft spot for the Missoni vintages. Just ordered some Missoni di Missoni (aka Missoni Originale or Missoni Donna). It`s my third bottle, a large 125 ml (others are 100 and 75 ml). This one is pretty much like a late 70ies masculine powerhouse type of scent and the EdT almost wears like an extrait. Also have bought some Aria recently which is also a nice scent that goes in a Kenzo Jungle Elephant (woody-floral-musk) direction.
...Hi! Most of my roses don`t take the solifloral direction. I really enjoy the spiced rose theme in Sand Aoud by Mancera or the incens-ey rose in Lutens Santal Majuscule. I also detect a Taíf-like powdery rose in Nuit de Longchamp, Lubin, complemented by strong aldehydes. Aromatics Elixir also contains a nice, powdery rose. My current favourite is vintage Missoni by Missoni that goes in a musky-fruity slightly indolic direction and very spicy. Paestum Rose by Eau d'Italie is on my whish list. There`s also an interesting old-fashioned rose in the Perris line.
...Hi! I just bought her a bottle of Lubin`s Nuit de Longchamp, recent version, which is fantastic. It`s old-fashioned dark-floral powdery woods and smells like a vintage scent in every single accord. Got myself a small bottle of Bandit Extrait, also recent version, that`s peppery green jasmine & smoky-amber in perfection. Both have chypre structures that seem undamaged through reformulation, to my nose. A perfume that they often call a chypre is Carillon pour un Ange by Andy Tauer. This one is a love/hate thing and certainly HUGE, an almost nuclear muguet/lilac on a naturalistic, mushroom-ey forest-floor impression with a salty ambergris-like base.
...Hi folks. You might have found the herbal scent of your dreams already. But doesn`t this really shout Yatagan? I think Yat is something certain women can easily wear. Eau de Gentiane Blanche is also striking. It`s VERY dry though.
...Hi folks! Now that it is easily available in Germany I just blind bought Iris Silver Mist. It`s a very special creature, though. One week ago I got myself a nice bottle of Oud Imperial by Perris which is sensational.
