OK, first off i just want to quickly say this is going to be a nasal spray prescribed by my doctor as i have had very bad tinnitus (ringing in the ear) to the point of complete and utter depression. Yeah it's really bad. Recently i was given antibiotics and it helped for a week. So my Doctor wants to give me another weeks worth of antibiotics and a nasal steroid spray to help as i had covid last year and we believe that may have been the cause.
It got me thinking though, i wonder what this will do to my ability to smell certain notes and if this is something that people who work in the fragrance business have to do also to be able to smell things well because surely creating fragrances and having to smell stuff daily will have an affect on your ability to smell after years of it right?
So i am wondering do professionals do this OR what worries me more is do they avoid it due to bad reactions?
I have spent a lot of money in the last year, i mean a lot, i was raging when i got covid as it had a really bad affects on me being able to smell certain notes, thankfully i can again. (If anyone wants to know how to get your ability to smell back i can answer questions if anyone has any)
The thing is the ringing in my ear is destroying my ability to live a normal life and i want to know if i am about to have to sell all my collection or if nasal steroids are actually a good thing. You would think it would be positive right? If i have to chose i am going to have to pick my health obviously. People have done crazy things due to ringing in the ears and i feel like i am going crazy at times.
So, i thought i would ask if anyone knows anything about this? On a personal and scientific level i find this thought interesting.
EDIT: the Steroid is called Monetasone and if you read my reply 2 down you will see this is actually a very good thing for people with loss of smell. I don't have a loss of smell remember this is for my ringing in the ears but if i were to have problems with my sense of smell or anyone else reading this wondering the same, don't worry, this is a good drug for helping those who have lost their sense of smell to regain it with olfactory training. I am so glad to see this. Here is a link to an article about the effect this can have for people using it Click Here
